Title: New Bows in 2023
Post by: Friend on February 10, 2023, 05:15:16 AM
Am continuously interested year after year in what bows will be new for me and for others. I always look forward with much anticipation
to a new experience and like to share in the anticipation of others.

The arrival of a Big Jim Thunderchild and a Black Widow PMA w/carbon limbs can't get here quick enough.

What 2023 new bow plans do others have?

I ordered a 7 Lakes SF Silent Night bow blank.  68in  43@28 , maple and walnut limbs, straight grip, ash riser and black glass. Should be here around July sometime.

This one I just finished up.

Osage belly, purple heart core lam and riser, backed with boo, buffalo horn tip overlays.

My new to me bow is this 1980s Bear Kodiak Takedown (53#@28") that I got a month ago. I'll be bowhunting with it the 2023 season. I'm still debating to use cedar or aluminum arrows.

I bought a PLX and an A&H on this site during hunting season and have not had a chance to shoot them much.  Hoping to take one of them on the upcoming SC pig hunt if I can get them dialed in

I have it narrowed down to 5 different bowyers. It will definitely be a longbow.

I haven't decided yet, but it will most likely be a Toelke Pika or Chinook, or a Black Widow PSR.

These are difficult but fun decisions.

When I win Mike Bolin's Black Widow bow raffle, I'll post a picture here.  Until then, you'll just have to imagine it.

Should be up for a Javaman any time now, gonna try a 50" Elkheart magnum with a bow bolt. I'll probably regret going so short but it'll definitely be different from anything I have.

Received my Caribow Taiga EX about 2 weeks ago, very much liking it.  Even thinking i may need to order one of the longbows- an Amisk.

My 2022 new bow addition was a Talltines recurve. On the list now for a Big Jim Thunderchild. Unfortunately it will probably be late 23 or early 24 before I receive it. Definitely looking forward to it but not upset to only have the Talltines this coming season. Love shooting that bow. Between those two bows I hope to have it covered and be out of the bow buying business for a while (highly doubtful).

I think I will get a new bow this year.  Need to come down on weight, yup, getting older. 45 ish or so sounds good. Maybe a one piece by Dave Windaur. Been reading about Black Widow and carbon limbs.  I really do not need any more bows, ran out of room a long time ago. I pulled a couple out yesterday I had built in the 80's just to monkey around, kick off the dust.  But just got that itch for a new bow!

I ordered a Howard Hill Wesley Special. I'm excited to have a bow tillered to my 31" draw length.

I was shooting a used Dwyer Original, but it blew up on me. It was tillered to 28" and I wonder if five years of pulling it to 31" les to its demise.

I have no plans to buy another bow. I'm down to 5, only 3 of which I would consider hunters.

Great fun for you guys who are still exploring!

I hate that I don't have any more of Brandon Stahl's (Rose Oak) customs.

This was one of the first bows out of my shop this year. It's a two piece Flatliner with carbon backing. This was a special order bow for a long time customer. I rarely build the two pc bows any more.... But Keith wanted something special he could use for 3D competitions, and hunting too.

From the looks of this photo, I believe he's happy with it.....  Congrats Keith!
