Around the first of November, I posted about my knee replacement with weight loss and muscle mass lose associated from complications due to the medications of the surgery. At that time, I could barely pull a 30# bow. Since then, I've been shooting almost daily and I'm now pulling comfortably 38#. My goal was to get back to 40# (my hog weight bows). In 20 days, I turn 77 and I plan to be back at 40# and hopefully rejoining my Georgia hog lease as I haven't hunted in over a year! tippit
Hope you get there. :archer:
Good job, Jeff.
You can do it...
Joint replacements are a blessing, but the rehab is a lot of work. You will get there, I am sure. Just keep working out and getting strong.
You'll get there, Jeff.
When I had double knee replacement 5 years ago the hardest thing was the fact that I lost 20 pounds in the month after surgery while I was recovering. I was all muscle mass. I was still working construction and it took a long time to build back up. I was only 62 at the time.
Good luck Jeff!
Hope it goes well, Jeff!
Best wishes for your goal.
Keep working at it, you'll get there.
Best wishes! Keep plugging away, and you will make it.
Thank y'all for your encouragement. I'm definitely on the road back to normal in strength and weight gain. Plus my knee is feeling so much better...tippit
Just keep at it but don't overdue. I had to stop shooting for a month because of a heart procedure, not once but twice in 4 months. I am 77 as well and 45#'s felt real good when I got the OK to resume life agian. But my favorite bows are 50#-55#. Took me 6 months to get to 50#'s, another 4 to 55#'s. But I still have to watch I don't over due
Keep up the good work, Jeff! I hope you settle into your goal, only to realize down the road that 40# suddenly feels SO easy...

I'm 78, and I feel blessed that I have a beautiful place where I can walk a mile or so every day with my dog and shoot some arrows from my 40# bow. It's really not much exercise, compared with what I used to do 20 years ago, but it's something I look forward to every day, and it seems to be enough to keep me healthy, both mentally and physically. The important thing for me is to keep doing it every day, because I really feel the decline if I knock off for more than a day or so. The good thing is that I can still recover what I've lost after a few days of getting back in the routine again. When the weather is too miserable, I can shoot arrows down a 15 yard hall in my house and row for a half hour on the rowing machine. But those are not days I look forward to, they just help keep the decline in check, and certainly don't do anything for the dog!
Keep at it, Jeffrey, I'm sure you'll be back at it with your own 40# bow soon!
