LETS KEEP IT SIMPLE...how many deer can you shoot in a general bow season...and what state are you in...i have allways wanted to ask this....let the games being..
Depends. In the northern part of the state where I hunt, one buck only. In the southern part of the state where there are a lot more deer, I believe one can buy as many doe permits as one wants.
orion thanks for the reply.. i like the way you said that...this might be a tricky question for some..because of game management in your state...just do your best guys.....
2 bucks total , only one before gun season, and one during or after . All the does you want to buy tags for...
6 tags often filled but not always all 6 can be does
Of the six only two can be bucks
Extra doe tags available for "managing clubs" and for managing " urban units" and for "bow only city limits"
I've used those extra tags most of the last sixteen years
14 deer was the most I took in one season in NC
Before that I got more deer in other states added to my NC tags
All these were stickbows only

Without talking about very specific and exceptional circumstances for something like hog deer, in my part of the world we can shoot as many as we want and/or can, of any sex or age, 365 days a year, with no requirement to buy tags. None with a bow yet (either compound or trad bow) but hoping I can change that soon.
In previous years of terrible drought I did my best to reduce numbers for landowners and we used all of the meat. Now we are having a fantastic season and we still use everything we shoot but we aren't killing quite as many as we could or have before.
Generally 4. Only one can be a buck.
Also, you can buy limitless archery doe tags for zone 1 counties.
Georgia law states hunters are allowed to harvest up to 10 antlerless deer and no more than two antlered deer. In the release, WRD explains one of the two antlered deer must have a minimum of four points, one inch or longer, on one side of the antlers, or a minimum 15-inch outside antler spread.
Illinois- 2 bucks with over 3" antlers and unlimited doe. Must buy tags for each deer.
Tennessee- 2 bucks a year, and 3 does a day. All on one hunting license.
Ohio1 buck up to 5 does. There is county specific also, example my county is a 3 deer county. For me to fill all my tags I have to be willing to go to another county. Also limitations on how many on public land. Example only on of each sex. Then the rest have to be on private.
Ohio is a big buck destination but I am still in search of a 200 lb field dressed doe.

I didn't realize we were considering the other states we hunt in. In Missouri I can take up to two bucks and depending on the counties at least two to unlimited doe.
Texas - 5 tags total on your license; 2 antlerless and 3 buck or antlerless. Most ppl have to have places in different counties to use all 3 buck tags. There is also a Managed Lands Deer Permit program that gives tags to participating landowners. On those properties you can kill as many deer as there are tags, and you can still use the tags on your license at other places. Last year I killed 7 whitetail deer. The year before, 13.

Yes! There are 1 buck, 2 buck, and 3 buck counties. But you can use all your buck tags if you have places in different counties to hunt. There are also counties where you can only shoot does on certain days.

In many states, it quickly becomes a question of how many deer do you want to drag out of the woods and take care of.
In ND we get one bow tag and if you are really lucky you can get a deer gun tag on the lottery and you can shoot that with a bow or gun but it has to be species and sex that is on the lic. and in that unit only. The bow tag any place in the state and whitetails or mule deer. At one time I could have gotten 4500 doe tags but our deer pop. has dropped now no extra tags.
CT, most of the state is four, two antlerless, two either sex. In our shoreline zones (11+12), it's pretty much unlimited does, with earn a buck every 2 or 3 does.
I live in ND so am under the same restriction as Tim. I didn't hunt ND last year or this year. Land access has been tough.
Indiana archery statewide is one antlered and one antlerless or two antlerless.
But there are "bonus antlerless" tags. How many are permitted depends on the county. I don't know what's allowed in my county...I'll look it up if I ever kill two and want to go for a third.
Then there are "reduction zones" and park hunts and those are different.
Ever changing....in my Ohio youth only 1 buck...No doe . Back then you were lucky to see many deer......
In my county in Ohio this year I am permitted ""3"" deer on private land= 2 doe and 1 buck . Having relatively low numbers in my area I felt self restriction beyond legal limits was/is necassary . I'm one doe one buck and out .......
Not to get too far off topic , but blanket regulations for vast areas isn't proper management. Years of HIGH limits coupled with most hunters being without the "self-limitations" gene has devastated the deer herd in many areas while protected lands reflect that protection.
Just some food for thought on this subject......
In Va. in the western part ( where I am) it is 2 bucks-3 does, 1 buck with 4 points over 1" on one side. East of the blue ridge it is 6 tags, 3 does and 3 either sex tags. License also has 4 turkey tags but no more than 3 per season (spring or fall).Unlimited additional doe tags, insurance companies influence drives the game commission here.I just take what I need.
In NM one buck only, and you have to draw a tag. There are a couple of limited antlerless tags that are few and far between ( I think they are for youth only in maybe 2 or 3 units).
Best deer state in the country Minnesota - best county in the state- archery -1 buck 3 antler-less mid Sept. - last day of Dec.
WOW,this really blows my mind how much deer hunting you guys can do...in fact its crazy...thanks for sharing the info..
PA-one buck, does by permit. In my unit I can generally be awarded two. Around the cities there are many more permits available.
I live in a Zone 1 KY county. My son has killed so far this year. We are allowed 1 Buck statewide (which I strongly support) and as many Does as we care to eat.
NJ 2-3 bucks and depending on your zone UNLIMITED Does!
In Virginia, a standard license is 6 deer, 3 antlerless 3 either sex - so up to 3 bucks. With urban archery and de-population tags etc., you can more or less have unlimited does in some places.
In Iowa everyone is eligible for one any sex tag. If you're a resident land owner you qualify for another any sex tag just for your land. Doe tags are allotted by county. Some counties like where I live never sell out of antlerless tags. Each county has a quota on antlerless tags.
5 in Arkansas
Maryland: For the 2022-23 deer season, the statewide bag limit for white-tailed bucks is two deer (no more than one per weapon season). Hunters have the option to take one additional bonus buck in Region B (the state's central, southern, and eastern regions) after purchasing a Bonus Antlered Deer Stamp.
The antlerless archery deer bag limits differ between deer management regions. In Region A, no more than one antlerless deer may be harvested during the regular archery season. An additional antlerless deer may be harvested in Region A during the Primitive Deer Hunt Days.
In Region B, the antlerless archery limit is 15, except for in the Suburban Deer Management Zone, where the archery antlerless limit is now unlimited. This zone comprises Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George's counties.
11 deer no more than 3 bucks. WV
