Title: A scrape, under a spruce tree...??
Post by: woodchucker on October 20, 2022, 12:25:32 PM
This morning, I found a fresh new scrape, under a spruce tree.
NEVER, in all my years, have I found a scrape under a pine tree.
Definetly a scrape, got a "licking branch" about shoulder high....

I have seen rubs, on cedar and hemlock trees. But never a scrape under one.
A spruce tree??? Got me scratching my head... :dunno:

I see that a lot where I live. I wonder if they like the aromatic wood

Seen scrapes under spruce and hemlock many time in the Adirondacks.

Scrapes along trails are sometimes under pines here. Perhaps the location of the scrape and the height of the branch above are more important factors than the type of tree. At least it seems that way on trails leading to little meadows.

I find them next to the horse fense and have seen them use a loose wire for a licking branch.
