The HIGHLIGHTS' forum is wonderful for reading some great and inspiring hunting details. Also, there are special individual harvest threads on PowWow which I very much enjoy reading
Thought it would be advantageous to have a collective single thread of 2022/2023 fall/winter harvests for viewing. This thread is in no way intended to replace the HIGHLIGHTS Forum nor the individual detailed harvest threads on PowWow.
In addition to pics, there could a brief listing of the following:
-Bow and actual draw wt at archers draw length
-Arrow specs including BH
- Shot distance and approximate recovery distance
- Date and approximate time of day
Should soon be some harvests, hopefully posted, as many of our TradGang members are currently hunting or about to ...
Have made three hunts...1st hunt -three bucks traveling together..two 3 1/2 yr olds and a very promising 2 1/2 yr old 8pt...all within 12 yards...2nd hunt- one young buck at 15 yards and three does...3rd hunt - 6 does...
Can't bring myself to attempt to harvest a velvet buck and end my season in pursuing a hard horned buck. My early target bucks have been replaced with a couple of larger bucks...expect those to be replaced...
I know some critters are starting to hit the ground. Some pics please.
Our season starts Oct. 1st...
We put some cameras out around the new house.
Got some pictures of a few nice Bucks!! All pictures have been at night though...
Got a picture of a HUGE 4 pointer, that would make most 8pts look small.
(too bad we have a 3 on 1 side rule) :banghead:
I'll be out opening day!! I'm retired, and I can just walk out my door and hunt.... :archer:
Ok, I'll start 😀
It came together for me on the 6th, called in this bull and shot him at 10 feet through the heart with a big Snuffer. He went about 40 yards and tipped over. I had Chuck Hawes of Chucks Custom Bows build me a wooden ILF riser, 20 inches, out of gray actionwood and purpleheart for a 64 inch bow using long limbs. I sent him an old Jack Howard riser to copy the grip and he did a great job. 3rivers DAS bamboo carbon limbs, 61lbs. 695 grain carbon arrow, went in right to the cresting. 5th trip to Alaska, 1st punched tag!

Congratulations on a nice moose. You'll be eating good for a while.
Beautiful MOOZ Ryan !
Mighty special to be North and just see them ...as large as they are, I always find it pretty incredible how such a Large Brown animal can take a few steps into the boreal Forest and dissipate....Never been North with a weapon (just canoe trips), but like a bou hunt...MOOZ have been a life long dream. Thanks for taking the time to take us along....
Congratulations !

Thanks Greg. To be truthful, the "perfect" shot was actually the 2nd, ending shot. My first hit was high, where you can see the frothy blood near the spine.
Perfect shot Micheal.
Great shot!! Great looking bow also!

Attaboy Michael and the others!!!

Had an opportunity to harvest this doe the other night. She came in with 2 other does and was the biggest of the 3. I was on the ground in some thick stuff with very few shooting windows so had to shoot fairly quickly when she walked by at 8 yards and she made it about 150 yards. Great northern ghost, 60 pounds at my draw length shooting a GT trad with 200 grain 3 blade VPA, total arrow weight around 525 grains.

That's the first one for me for this season, and first with my newest Primal Tech longbow. It's 40# at my DL. The shot was placed pretty perfectly, and it was a complete passthru. She ran about 40-50yds and I watched her drop!!!!! This has been a very trying season for me so far, and it felt really great to have it all go right and see a positive outcome!!!!!!
Bisch
Nice one Bisch.
15 yard shot with a Magnus Stinger, 2018 Aluminum shaft, and a 52 pound Black Widow
Congratulations Mark!
Two more for the freezer.
Just saw this thread, excited I can contribute this year. I shot this little Wisconsin doe at about 3 yards. She ran maybe 70 yards? High right side shot, almost straight down and shot through the heart, almost had an exit. Day 6 arrow with 200 grain Cutthroat broad head shot out of my Black Widow SAIII that is around 43#'s at my draw weight. I have a permit for some public land near me for later this month and hope to get another one!
-Jeremy :coffee:
Awesome shot Jeremy!! Congratulations!!
Decided to go sit in a blind this afternoon and see if I could get a shot at a decent whitetail buck. I've been noticing some rut activity and saw a new buck the other day.
Anyway, not long after I sat down, a group of blackbuck antelope came in. There was one real nice ram, and I decided if he gave me a shot I would take it. After a while, he ended up at about 12yds munching on the hand throw corn I had put down. When he put his near leg forward, I drew back and let an arrow fly!!! My first impression was that I might have been low. He bounded off and after about 75yds, toppled over in sight!!!!! I'm not sure if I fumbled the shot a bit or if he did a matrix move on me, but the arrow went in just in front of the near leg, and then up thru his neck.
This is the first blackbuck I have ever shot on my place, and I'm very happy with him. He measured 20 1/2" x 20 3/8" which is a pretty darn good ram!!!!!!
Anyway, here's the pics:

Wish I took better pics but it's never a thought for me right after a harvest.

How I found him 60 yards from the shot. Too thick to see it happen but man what a crash that echoed through the woods!
Way to go , nice one! I had one hang up like that once and I though it was still alive.
Some great animals,congrats everyone! :clapper:
Congrats to everyone, all awesome harvests. I love late season hunting, so still holding one doe tag yet. Here are a couple deer I took in mid October. Merry Christmas everyone!
Forgot to mention - 48lb Blackwidow pl with zwickey 2 blade heads
This is actually from last season, but was perhaps my favorite hunting experience to date and my son's best deer yet, so thought I would share. Didn't post it last year. 55lb bear Montana with 2 blade magnus heads
That's a helluva buck shingobee. Dang fine.
Congratulations on a great season.
:clapper:
Congrats some great deer....
shingobee that is a monster buck!!! I am wondering how far was the shot and how far was the recovery?? Congrats!
Thanks all. Fishone, the shot was between 20 and 25 yds (I never actually paced it off). Long story short, the hit was back and in the liver. He ran a few hundred yards and fortunately, stopped where I could see him. I watched him until I couldn't see any more, which was about 15 to 20 minutes. He didn't move and didn't look good. I backed out at dark and came back the next morning and found him about 50 yds from where I last saw him the evening before. I wish the whole thing would have gone down a little better than it did but that happens sometimes I guess.
Awesome animals taken by you guys! Congratulations to all of you!
This has been one of the toughest years in a while for me. I went to a spot 40 minutes away, that I've only hunted once this year, in a stand on the north end of the property. Today I sat a fresh stand that I put up in the spring on the south end. Cutting through a hay field to get to the woods, there was deer scat everywhere. The trails in the woods are gouged into the dirt from years of deer movement. Climbed in and ready at 2:30. It's in a grove of cedar trees and after getting in stand, I realized I never made it back to trim anything. I had holes to shoot through in a variety of directions, no more than 15 yards at the furthest. At 3:15 or so, I could hear a deer walking. I got up and ready. A big doe coming down the trail....nope a big spike (body, not antlers). With just a few days to go, I wasn't being real picky. He was all alone, so he was it.
At 15 yards, he put on the brakes and started sniffing, stomping, and that one back step. Crap, figured he was going to bolt. But no, he pussyfooted around for a few minutes, then committed to the trail. As he stepped broadside, I drew. He took another step and placed himself perfectly between two cedar trees. I hit anchor, settled and away my arrow went. Heard the thud as my arrow hit him in the spine. He dropped and rolled, breaking my arrow. I quickly put a second arrow behind his shoulder, and not seeing much penetration, sent a third. His head gear is pretty small, but a big body indeed, the size of a big doe anyway. This is the ONLY buck I've seen this year, but very exciting to get him with the longbow, and continue a four year streak. Kohannah Longbow, Zwickey Eskimo.
