I had the weight of my Primal Tech longbow limbs reduced, and I also had a brand new riser built for said limbs. I finally got the new bow this past Monday. By Tuesday morning, I had a really well tuned arrow worked up.
Here is the new bow:

I have been struggling with my normal hunting weight bows for some time now. I decided to try a lower draw weight to see if that would help me gain some of the control over my shooting that I had always been accustomed to. I had these limbs reduced to 40# at my DL. After unpacking and putting her together, it didn't take me but a few shots to figure out this was a good move. I immediately started shooting more consistently, and much more accurately than I had been with my 45-50# bows.
Fast forward 2 days to today, and I was getting along so well with her, I decided to take her pig hunting. As luck would have it, the pigs cooperated. A group of about 8 or 10 came in about 8:30. As soon as one gave me a good shot opportunity, I drew back and let an arrow fly. It was true to the mark, and I saw blood pouring out of the pig as it ran off. I went back and got my tracking dog Zeke and put him on the trail. The shot was true, and the pig only went about 50yds. Zeke made quick work of it and led me right to her.

It was already starting to get hot, so I snapped a few pics and headed to the cleaning rack!

I really love my Primal Tech bows. I was worried about the low draw weight and hunting, but my arrow zipped thru that pig like it wasn't even standing there. I'm not worried anymore!!!! I'm going to give it a few weeks and see if my shooting stays at the level it is now with the lighter weight. If it does, I'm probably going to have my recurve reduced also. It feels really good to have a little confidence back!!!!!
Bisch
Congratulations Bisch. I was hoping it would work for you. Beautiful bow by the way. That Madden fella knows how to make shooters and make em purty!
Great job man!!
Good looking stick and good job on the pig, Bisch.
Brilliant performance for a 40lb bow, nice looker too.
PS How much for the dog. :biglaugh:
Well done Sir, nothing like a little confidence boost. Yeah, you will be a happy camper now. Bow looks awesome and now it fits you even better. Sometimes our egos say that we have to keep doing something that in truth, we need to change. A good bow with the right tune and sharp broadheads even though a lighter poundage can still be a game getter like you just proved. Shot placement is the key anyways and when it is easier to make the shot because you shoot it better, good things will happen. Congrats on it all, let the critters beware!

Congrats Bisch, great move.
Bisch, you are about the pig stickingest guy I know of.
Nice!

Thanks Sam!!!! Where I live and hunt, there is no season for pigs. You can kill them 24/7/365. I try as hard as I can to get all that I can!!!!!
Bisch
Well done Sir! Congrats!
Congrats, Bisch!!!! :clapper: :archer: :clapper:
Way to git'er bloody!!!
Like that combo in woods. Nice pig
Way to go Bisch!  Beautiful bow and good job Zeke!
Nice...
As long as you hit the weakest spot on a hog like you did, penetration is not an issue. You can about push your finger through that entrance on a hog. Nice shot.
The real test will be sheild and/or ribs not in that spot.
Ya gave me an idea for a thread.... :campfire:
YIPPEEE!!!!! I like Terry's threads!!! :coffee:
Looks like you made a good decision

I agree, BUT, if it comes down to me shooting well with lighter weight, or crappy with heavier weight, I'll take the lighter weight all day long!!!! I don't normally shoot the big boars anyway if I have a choice. I don't think I will have any problems on deer with the lower weight.
Last year I killed this boar with a 41# longbow and hit him dead center in the shield.

While he wasn't a giant boar, he was decent sized. I would be hesitant to even try it with this bow on a really giant boar. I've had arrows do a dead stop in the shield on really big boars with my 50# bows!!!
Bisch
Yeah I shot a boar the outfitter estimated 250+ and got about 6" of penetration through the shield and one lung. That was after another hunter had gut shot him and it was running across in front of me at about 15 yards. That pig went a long time on one lung and a gut shot.
Nice again sir. Yeah, I agree, that's why I shoot 60-70#s instead of 80-90. I just don't have the time like I use to to stay on top of them to make it automatic.
Had great results with my 50# Centaur last year on javies and my one large hog. Trying out ant testing lower weights a bit for my Golden Years.
Fixing to order another 50#er.
Got any other pics of autopsy? Love that stuff for eval and documentation.
No other pics! Almost all the pigs I shoot these days get cleaned using the gutless method.
Bisch
Nice hog, nice shot, and a really beautiful bow. Accuracy is better than draw weight or anything else, as you proved. Just out of curiosity, what kind of broadhead (not that it would have mattered).
Broadhead was a 1 1/8" wide German Kinetic.
Bisch
Bisch, do you bone them out at the site or just quarter them?

Just quarter. Get 2 hams, 2 shoulders, 2 backstraps, and 2 tenderloins. And sometimes I'll take neck meat and trimmings.
I don't need the meat as I have 2 freezers full of deer, bison, nilgai, etc.. Most of the pigs I shoot these days get given away to some folks I know in town. Every once in a while I'll keep a ham or two to make pulled pork out of.
Bisch
" 2 backstraps, and 2 tenderloins" - well of course!
Thanks, I usually leave the bone in on the hams and shoulders as well.
Nice work brother!
I had Ron King make me a 41 lb set of limbs for my Fox. I don't see a reason to shoot my 46lb set anytime soon. Like you, I'm shooting the 41 lb limbs so much better!
Way to go sir. Nice spotty.
I started doing the gutless as well a few years ago, but I also take pics of the shield if sizable and ribs either broke or not and also the entrance and exit angles the head left. Still interesting to catalog. I think I even contributed a few pics to the hog shot placement thread. I didn't post them but had them posted by some one else. Anyway, nah, no problem on deer for sure.
Sometimes I'll cut it to look. But most of the time not so much. Years ago when I was learning I did . Sometimes now if I want to eat the heart. Although I've never kept a log or notes. That said killing as many animals per year as Bisch does, not to mention the hunters he guides and cleans animals for, that much time and effort isn't warranted.
Even myself who usually twenty to thirty animals a year killed, gutless is how I go.
That said this has been a really slow year with only half a dozen so far and I still didn't so . . .
Wise decision.....you will enjoy continued success...
