Loved the book and learned a lot from it. It reminded me about how fickle the wind could be and about picking a spot, a tiny spot to aim at. His smoke tip I use a lot, I use the smoke as a cover scent as well. Usually buy some cheap cigars to smoke on the stand or in it. No, I don't smoke and don't inhale (really I don't). But the smoke allows me to see what the wind is doing on the calmer days. I also loved his use of wool and plaids in the woods. I have very little wool stuff mainly because I live in lower area of Arkansas where it just isn't sold. I have picked a few things at resales. The only reason I ever used camo was to hide from other hunters so that they wouldn't find my spot. I got very good at hiding both the hang on stand and the single pole ladder. But back to the book, Absell pointed out that one of the main differences of a mass produced bow and a custom bow was the grip. The mass produced bow had a generic grip whereas the custom bow would or should fit your hand much better. He talked about altering the grip to fit your hand as well as the shelf. So. after reading that part over several times, I tackled an old Indian bow that I had. Ended up with a bow that fit me great and a shelf much closer to my hand as well as with less arrow touching places. This changed the bow big time and really made it into a meat getter for me. I also used it a lot for bowfishing and served me very well. Several times different ones would pick up my bow and look at me as they loved the feel of it. So I have altered several bows like that, usually ones that I purchased pretty cheap at a pawn shop. So, the Absell book was a game changer for me. He is an awesome guy. Jerry

Something happen I didn't hear about? Hope not!
No Dave, I talked to Teresa on Thursday, so I don't think so.
Sorry about that guys, I didn't mean for it to sound that way. And I sure don't want to rush it. I was in a hurry, had to help my wife with the grandkids
Asbell's book should be a must read for anyone interested in traditional archery. He helps us to understand how powerful our subconscious minds can be in helping our arrows go where we are looking, if we can only learn to get our conscious minds out of the way and let it happen. I try to start all my students out as instinctive shooters, which I believe will pay dividends for the rest of their shooting lives, whether they stick with that method or not.
Don't know yet, she just added the deer cocaine earlier. But the game camera will show us. I know that I have put salt in water puddles and the deer hammer them even after the water is gone. So does a few other critters.
G. Fred's books helped me better understand what was happening when I shot.

I emailed him that he posted this on the wrong thread.
no problem, I will simply quit this site. When one has had as many strokes as I have had, you tend to do stupid things. I only did this because my wife thought that I needed to. I struggle to spell much less write a complete sentence. Yes, I am pretty slow at writing but it is what it is. But I won't keep screwing up, would rather just stick to my usual loner thing anyways. So good luck to all.
Sorry Jerry, as far as I'm concerned, you're welcome here. If there's anything I can do to help you, send me a PM (private message; just click on my name and click on "send PM.").

Sir, I can't tell you how many times I've done the same thing the last nearly 20 years, its no big deal. I was just letting you know so you could copy and paste it on your thread. No need to leave. :campfire:
For you it is a simple matter to paste and do whatever, not so for me. After all of my brain trauma, electronics is no longer one of my abilities. I manage to learn something and unless I do it over and over, it is easily forgotten. I have to have my wife to help me post pics, I get too frustrated. As I have found out these last 20 plus years, leaving out one simple word totally changes a sentence. But so does using the wrong word or even blending or making up a new word. The worst thing is that you never said it in your mind but don't know that you did it. So, getting in a hurry writing can be a problem for me. Anyways, I thought that I was in the correct place. The struggle in life becomes not to mess up and a hard struggle it can be. I have just been very excited to be able to shoot trad again after 15 years of not being able to.
Tradslinger, going it alone is what a lot of us do but it's sure great being able to share our love of bowhunting, it would be great to see ya stay here, and your sure welcome to join us at the Traditional Bowhunters of Arkansas events , we have a longbow shoot coming up Labor Day weekend at Mayflower
No worries sir...
Hear is how to copy and paste.... go to your post above that was in the wrong place and put your curser(arrow) just to the left of the 1st word 'Don't'... now left click your mouse holding it down and move the arrow down and to the right to cover all the words to the last word of your post which is 'critter' in blue.
Now right click and select and click 'copy'...
Then you can go to the other thread it was suppose to be on and click reply ... Left Click your arrow like you are going to start to type as normal in the typing box...... Then right click and select and click 'paste' and your entire writing will appear.
Hope that helps. :campfire:
You know I never had read that book. Probably should. Always have enjoyed his articles.

Me too David. We've helped a lot of guys get started. A few girls too. Fred's book was required reading during lessons and get together shooting sessions. A lot of what's in Fred' book is better understood after hands on real experience. Fred is an expert shot. Excellent form and he can shoot in the woods where it counts.
