There is a bunch of Turkey killed yesterday during the youth hunt in Pa.
There's one strutin and gobblen his head off out side my living room window...does he count??? :dunno:
Just got back from the Missouri place 15 min ago. My neighbor and his wife both killed birds last week and are getting ready for 2nd season. They are gobbling like crazy last couple days even in the wind. This morning when I was packing to come home there was one a couple hundred yards back of the cabin that would gobble every time I shut the cabin or truck door. I could hear at least 4-5 more back in the woods. Putnam County SE of Unionville.

Yeah, I'm just shakin my head. Guys on lease saw over a hundred one morning in bow season and now it's silent there.
The three best turkey guys I know say they are henned up ,or shut up or something so I'm not alone on this ,at least in this area.
Tomorrow is a brand new day and they may be goin nuts! :biglaugh:
my cousin and his son doubled up yesterday, and they said they werent gobbling much where they were hunting, i wont drive very far for a turkey. everytime i go its over a 2 mile hike going in, so its getting old in a hurry.
Gob pursuit can be the most enjoyable for many.
Gob pursuit can be the most frustrating for many.
Gob pursuit can be the most rewarding for many.
Go pursuit may entailn all the above for many.
Gob pursuit.... Gob pursuit... Gob pursuit...
Hope they will be gobbin in the morning!!!
thats a good one ,Friend
It's been pretty cold and windy up here the past few days and the turkeys haven't been talking much. Finally heard some gobbling this morning and had two toms working in. At about 80 yards they both froze up and then turned and ran the opposite direction. I didn't know why at first but heard a sound to my right and turned just in time to see a big wolf come flying in towards my decoys. He saw me turn my head, slammed on the brakes, stared for a second and then turned and ran back the way he came. Made for an exciting and frustrating morning.
Here's one

Trenton, nothin seems to like wolves charging them! :o LOL
Nice bird Cory!!
Girlfriend hit one with her car this morning.... :o
I saw 15 or so birds from the highway. One Tom was struttin' and all fanned out.
Also saw a black bear eating something the edge of a bare field.
Tuesday's birds gobbled, but they were headed for the neighbor's pasture to strut, and I couldn't turn em.
No gobbles yet this morning... Tight lipped heathens!!
Kenny, dress up as a hen, might change yer luck:)
:wavey:
Here's a pic for you turkey guys. That's from the camera I left up over the winter on a logging road on my Missouri farm. She must be pretty!!

Kinda reminds ya of teenagers, huh?
I'm in SW Nebraska. Turkey numbers to me seem significantly down. Any others with similar observations?

Not around these parts. You go for a walk in the woods and you gotta kick them outa the way. Of course that is, until you sneak in before sun up, sit silent and undetectable and try to call one in to shoot
The season here ends Sunday; but I've seen more turkeys this year than the last 5 years combined. That said, no turkey harvest pictures.
I've learned a lot of lessons this year. The most important one is the use of a string tracker. Hunting dense woods with lots of brush piles causes a lot of grief.
Had one at 12 yds today in full strut. Unfortunately it was on my blind side and when I stood up to stretch in the blind it must have seen me thru the netting. He ghosted in.

Big Jim custom

It's over here in N.C. all our hens are on the nest. Saw 4 Longbeards today 8:15 hanging together scratching bugs in a field. Season ended Saturday. If there were any hens to be had these guys would have been fighting instead of eating. Good luck guys been a tough season from what I am hearing.

I feel for you all. I've been trying to kill one with my bow for almost 20 years. Reluctantly, I started hunting them out of a blind with good decoys a few years back and started getting better opportunities. I am a long longbow guy so blinds were tough and finally went to trying with a short hybrid/recurve. Well, 2 years ago I finally hit one solidly and made the mistake of letting it bleed out for 20 minutes....and a yote grabbed it and ran off leaving me nothing but the tail! This year I flinched badly and hit my decoy squarely in the head after a jake spurred it and was standing adjacent. That will teach that decoy for getting beat up by a jake. One day! :banghead:
