Title: Shoot the montana bow the best, so ordered 2 of them. Maybe I'm crazy
Post by: Tom0728 on January 23, 2022, 01:49:16 AM
I've shot plenty different longbows, cheap ones and customs. All were good bows, but if I had to choose one bow to survive with i would always go back to the 55# bear montana. For whatever reason I can shoot it so well that its like an extention of my arm.  So I was looking around and found two 50#ers in brown maple and ordered them both. One to shoot and one for a backup. I sure hope I'm not the only one out there that shoots a factory bow the best, and hopefully not the only guy that orders two of the same bow in a comfy weight just to be sure I'm set for a while. Makes me laugh but I shoot the montana like a machine. So incredibly well it didn't take but 5 minutes for my wife to send in the order for both of them. Anybody else have that one bow that just works? Even if its not the prettiest ?

Nothing wrong with shooting a Montana!! Great bow imo. The brown ones are very nice looking I think too.

Nothing wrong with them. Lot's of people have the exact same bow and specs for back up.

Just hope your shooting style doesn't change  :biglaugh:

I just picked up a 2020 Bear Montana last week.  It looks like a great bow to me!

It's a really good idea to buy two of something you really want, if it is something that may not be there later when you need to replace it. I have hard to fit feet, and there have been two times over the years that I bought boots that fit perfectly, only to go back several years later and find that they weren't being made anymore.  I just bought a new pair of boots that I've broken in and fit me perfectly.  They are still on the market and I could buy another pair.  Should I?  The only problem is that now I'm 77.  Will I outlast another pair of boots?

Anyway Tom, good on you.  You've just done something that I've thought about doing too, and as you can see you've got me thinking again.

Many things I have two of and a few I wish I had two because not made any more . Back up bow is a smart purchase.

I don't think you are crazy at all.  McDave is spot on with the availability concern and when you find something that works for you perfectly,   You'd be crazy NOT TO try and score that back up and even a back up to the back up.   Sometimes that adage 2 is 1 and 1 is none makes a lot of sense to a fella and it's actually a smart financial move....... maybe paying a little more up front but way less in the long run,   having secured what you know works for you.
The  Montana shoots great...... only reason I don't personally own one is the grip.   Not for me so much,  I'd have to re profile it on the sanders,  i remember it being distracting to me.   If the  Montana is your bow,   You're smart to have several

I think it's a smart idea. Over the years when I found a bow I really liked I would usually pick up a second used one for a backup.

I have/had custom recurves,LBs,factory bows, and a Black Hunter Stealth. They all shoot/shot good. Not one shot any better then the other. It's not the bow it's all in the shooter.

Not crazy at all I have two of every Longbow model I like all are Yellowstone Custom bows. I would rotate your bows they may look the same, but each has a little different personality.

Thanks fellas. I do buy doubles of boots I like. Also other things as well. I know its not the bow its the opperator in most cases, but I shoot squirrels and field mice with the montana and just plain feel deadly with it. No target too small. Good to hear I'm not alone with doubling up

It's a very smart idea. I carry a back up bow all the time and had to use it a couple times. Best to have one that shoots the same as the other. I'm of the same thought as well, I've had several items I really like, go out of production. Nothing wrong at all with a factory bow that works.

I also go along with what McDave said. Even at 76 years old I find myself buying two or more of something especially arrow shafts. I am going down in bow weight slowly but so far have accumulated 6 dozen shafts plus I stole a dozen of my wife's aluminums.
