Title: Are bamboo cores loud?
Post by: Appalachian Hillbilly on January 14, 2022, 12:44:04 PM
Or is it just me.?
Trying to figure out my first set of limb core material. Been looking at action boo and hard maple.

I just put a set Of DAS Classic ILF longbow limbs on one of my risers. Of the 12-15 bows I have only 4 are bamboo. The rest are maple or cherry cores.

I swear the bamboo has a louder tone than the others? Not sure if I like it or not.

I may need to play with brace height some on the bamboo bows. They get shot the least f them all.

Is it just me or does bamboo have a louder tone?

Never heard of that before. The bamboo is it solid or vertical flooring type core. I use all flooring type cores seems quite to me.

Try changing brace height...  See what happens...  Everything has a vibration or resonance...  Could be bamboo is higher than maple and that is what you are hearing...

I've never had a problem with boo.

No idea what type of bamboo.  I have a set of DAS Longbow ILF, Win&Win Recurve ILF , a 1 piece Primal Tech and they all have a different tone to me than my others.  Gonna play with brace height some.

The bamboo bows all appear to have .040 glass and my maple core bows have .050 front and back. Not sure if that makes any sound difference either.

I won't say it is a problem per se... they all are very good performers.  My one piece Primal Tech longbow is the fastest  one I have in the 40 lb range.

I agree with you on the tone. I've got a 5 bamboo lam Hill bow and it definitely has a different tone than a bow with solid wood lams. Must be related to the glass, because an all bamboo no glass bow I made is real quiet.

I made a new string tonight and added some length to get a shorter brace height. Old string.was borrowed from another bow.

Went from 8" to 7 1/2" and it made a world of difference.  Know has the familiar thump. Still a different tone bit a lot quiter.

So your lower brace adds string tension made it quieter.  Found a sweeter spot.

I wouldn't think the bamboo has anything to do with it. Glass thickness and brace height can and will give you a different tone.... Try foam cores with a carbon backing some time.... :scared: :scared:
Seriously different sound than anything else.... Same foam cores with glass.... different sound again..... but quite honestly i'd stay away from foam cores..... there are longevity issues besides weird sound. Not worth a few FPS IMO.

Hillbilly, did you notice any change in hand shock with the different brace height?
