Title: Trimmed my Akubra Banjo Patterson
Post by: Wudstix on January 04, 2022, 03:56:31 PM
The brim on my Banjo Patterson was just a knat too long and string clearance was a concern.  So I took it to Cavender's to have the front shaved a bit.  They cut a 1/8" notch and then sanded the corners down.  Have to admit when he cut it at first I was a bit nervous, but it looks pretty good and  after sanding the felt down at the corners, the string just touches at full draw.  Don't have to tilt the hat back.  I am pleased.  This hat is very rapidly working to become a valued companion.  Tusker Roundup here we come.

I've got a Banjo too and love it!

Did they trim an 1/8" all around?  Do you have a picture?

No I just had them take 1/8" from front eight inches.  Kind of a notch, then sand the edges down more or less flush.  The one of the greens jacket is the after pic.  If I want to fine tune I'll just take some sandpaper to the brim.

This hat even masquerades as a dress hat!

It's very subtle but I can't bring myself to do it.

Glad that helps you.  I have had mine for around fifteen years and has seen alot of country.  One of the most water proof hats out there.

Good to know.  I still may sand 1/32-1/16" off the 1-2" section were the string touches.

It was painful for me to watch, but it turned out well.  Now I can shoot my bow with the hat on.
