Currently shooting 60-65 Douglas Fir and thinking of going with aluminum out of my new bow build. Figuring I'd be in the 55-60 or 60-65# spine range with DF's. What would be close in an aluminum?
47-48# bow with a 175-200 grain head. Arrows usually around 30.5 - 31"
Hi Nathan,
I'm sure there are more qualified archers to leave a suggestion for you, but none of them are available to do so at the moment.... So, I'll offer you my suggestion instead!!! :biglaugh:
Given that you're using a fairly hefty 'head and a long-ish draw length, i'd recommend something like a 2018 or perhaps a 2016. You could try lighter 1916, but i don't believe that would be stiff enough... Otherwise, a 2117 may serve well (but possibly too stiff?)...
For my hunting set-up, I shoot 50lbs @ 28AMO with my draw length at 29", shooting 2117 XX75s cut at 29-3/4" and have 190-ish grain head weight. My set-up shoots like a dart!
I do use a 'fast flight' string so there is that as a consideration as well.
I'd recommend putting your bow/arrow specs in the 3Rivers dynamic spine calculator. I've used it on a few different arrow builds and it's always been very accurate.

Nathan, I'd sure look at a 2018, great weight in a 5/16 diameter and spines around 65 lbs. I'd think it would work nicely
I used to fiddle with 2020, 2215, and 2117. 65# and 160 grain heads. 28-29" arrows.
