Title: Bow strings
Post by: mzombek on November 21, 2021, 06:13:37 PM
Hi, I am looking for information on what materials are needed for endless loop bow string. I am going to start making strings but don't know anything about them. I do have B50 Dacron material for the string but don't know what to use for the end loops or serving. Thanks for you help.

Maybe get started by researching online how to build an endless loop string and the jig required for it.  The jig can be purchased through suppliers like 3Rivers and others or can easily be built if you are handy and have access to some basic woodworking tools.
The B50 Dacron has been an industry standard for many years and is perfectly fine, and you can move up to thinner (faster) materials with less stretch like FastFlite, AstroFlight, Rampage, etc., as you become proficient.  The serving material is also sold by all the suppliers, and again is available in many different materials. Basic nylon is acceptable and the cheapest way to get started, in many colours. And you'll need a serving tool. Good luck and have fun, they really are quite easy!

A search on youtube will pull up piles of videos on making strings, the tools needed and how to use them.

What those 2 guys said...

If you want to step up from B50, BCY's 8125 is a good all around string... I personally stay away from strings with mixed fibers... I use Halo for serving... Works for me... But then I am not an expert on the subject...  What sold me on the 8125 is that a lot of Olympic  shooters use that string... I also like to use the thinnest or next to thinnest serving for your loops... I hope this helps...

I have made a lot of strings. Yes watch youtube to learn how.

You will need a string jig. You can buy one or make it. Its not hard to make. You also will need a serving tool.

Stay with the B50 to start with . It does not cost much. Serve the  B50 end loops with nylon. The center serving can be anything that you want to use.

Thank you for all of the great info. I was able to acquire some of the things that are needed. I have enough B50 to practice . The rope for the end loops work great. Thanks for all of your tips and suggestion. Ill be putting an order into 3rivers soon.
