I have a local surplus that has some hardwood flooring and decking that has some gorgeous grain. Tigerwood, some figured Ipe. Several other thin boards that I know you could not read for 4 bookend type matches. Pretty sure I could get 2 from each piece that would match.
2 for the belly and 2 for the back.
Anyone done this?
I would say thats a yes. You can make a lamination out of about anything. I have made lams out of wood from a construction site burn pile, baseboard offcuts, pallets, wood stickers, limbs, twigs, stumps, garbage, etc.
All that matters is if they are the right size and how they look when you are finished.
