I have been exploring some public land hog hunting in Oklahoma last spring and summer. I have not been out here and not at least heard a hog and I have seen a hogs on all but one trip. I have not gotten a shot at a hog yet however I have gotten close (62 yds) but did not want to cross the oxbow to get to it.
There are ample primitive camping, RV hook ups, cabin rental in town, laundry and grocery located within a short drive. Deer season runs through January 15th, turkey season opens April 6th. If we go in March there is a good chance to find sheds as well.
It's extremely thick and there's a good chance you'll have to get wet to get to the pigs. Not for the faint of heart but as I said I've thoroughly scouted the area and it's got a good population of hogs.
I'm hesitant to put the name of the WMA here on a searchable format however it's no secret. If anybody is interested shoot me a PM or give me a call. If we can get 3-4 people interested we should have a great time chasing hogs.

Here are some pics I took from earlier this year. Some spore, a hog I didn't want to get wet tor (didn't realize I could have Waded the oxbow), shed I found in March etc.
I'll come if you carry me piggyback across the oxbow.
Will this be before or after our bear trip?
I was counting on that already 'Nilla. Yeah this will be in March 2022 if anybody is interested. I'll start hunting it in January and February but it's good all year
I don't know if my vacation schedule will support it. I will be there with you in spirit, in any case.
Thanks Pat. If you wanna come do a bow fishing/hog hunt again we can make that happen!
All PMs answered. Thanks everyone. Not trying to be sneaky but don't want to put out a lot on a google able format.
I'm still upset that several of the WMA's are currently CLOSED to all hog hunting.

Oh, I'm so sorry! I did NOT intend for this to appear as if I was alleging that this place was closed off. Y'all have good luck out there!
Hahaha no worries amigo. I get your frustration with how some of these lands are managed. The ODWC certainly seems to put more value on deer hunting than other seasons.
This could be kinda fun ...
This might work out for me and a buddy. From what I can tell from the regulations we would need just a general hunting license...am I correct on that? Several of the guys that have posted here on this thread are folks that I've wanted to share a camp with for a good while. Praying that this works out for me!
I'd like to play. March 2022 is still a ways out. Pencil me in. We have a PL hunting area within 2 1/2 hours Granger, that seems like similar terrain.

Thanks for your interest. I sent you a PM with more info.
Dustin;
Thanks for the PM. Can you get over the counter out-of-state licenses, I'm from TX?
:campfire: :coffee: :archer2:
Michael,
I live in TX, but grew up in and hunt often in Oklahoma. Oklahoma is over the counter and can be bought on line or through the Oklahoma Wildlife Dept. phone app. You may not need one to hunt hogs. Feral hogs are not considered game animals in OK and do not have any regulations for limits. As Justin has mentioned, some public lands in OK are not allowing the harvest of feral hogs, due to professional trappers being used to control the populations. I have a lifetime license there, and here is what the OKWD website states for hogs on public lands.
Public Lands
Hog hunting is closed year-round at Hackberry Flat WMA/WRP, Kaw WMA, Sandy Sanders WMA and Waurika WMA. Hogs may be taken on Department-managed lands during any established hunting season with methods authorized by the Department for that hunting season, except that during any open deer and/or turkey season, only appropriate methods, hunting hours and legal equipment for that deer and/or turkey season are authorized for taking or pursuing feral hogs. No feral hogs may be removed alive from a WMA.
Pursuit of hogs at night is prohibited from Oct. 1 - Jan. 15 and during any spring turkey season.
Pursuit of hogs at night during any other time of the year has the following restrictions:
Use of a firearm is prohibited
In addition, persons pursuing hogs must comply with all other WMA regulations (see Department-Managed Area Rules).
Resident & Nonresident License Requirements: All persons pursuing hogs must possess a hunting license (see Licenses & Permits), unless otherwise exempt. In addition, persons pursuing hogs on WMAs open during youth deer gun, bear muzzleloader (in open counties), deer muzzleloader, deer gun, Holiday Antlerless Deer Gun (in open zones), elk gun (in open counties) and antelope gun (in open areas) seasons with a shotgun and rifled slug, or any rifle or handgun larger than .22 caliber rimfire, must possess either a filled or unfilled license appropriate for the current season, unless otherwise exempt.
Thank you James. Great info.
The WMA we are planning to hunt and the time frame does not overlap with any restricted season. Therefore a non resident hunting license is appropriate if you are coming from out of state.
Thanks!
Dustin
Dustin, you're welcome. I'm following the thread. If I can make the hunt I will let you know. I already have a January Javi hunt and a May bear hunt on the books, so I'm uncertain for March. Where in Oklahoma is the WMA near that you are looking to hunt. Not looking for the name of the WMA, just trying to get a bearing on where the hunt will be in relation to where I live. You can PM me if you want.
Will have to be extra special good boy. Have the Laredo Tusker Hunt in Feb, Granger Ranger Xtreme hunt weekend after valentine's day. Then a trip to OK. That's pushing it. Between Momma and my park time job.
:o

Dates have been determined. Friday March 11-Sunday March 13, 2022.
If you have sent me a PM I will send you a map of the WMA and where the central camp will be very soon.
Thank you!
Dustin, everything I read looks like there has to be a open season for other big game in order to pig hunt the WMA,s . It's the same way here in Ark, frustrating to say the least . I found this , is there something specifically addressing this WMA saying it's open in March to pig hunt ? I don't mean to doubt it, just want to be sure.
Thanks man

Dave,
As I read the link that you attached, I read that hog hunting is permitted on WMA's (except for those where it is stated that it is not), as long as you have a hunting license, and the appropriate big game tags if you are hunting them during an open big game season.
What kind of licenses do I need on public land?
A hunting license is required for hunting hogs on public land, unless exempt.
Additionally, if you are hunting during one of the following seasons with a shotgun and rifled slug, or any rifle or handgun larger than .22 caliber rimfire, you must possess a filled or unfilled license appropriate for the current season, unless otherwise exempt.
youth deer gun
bear muzzleloader (in open counties),
deer muzzleloader,
deer gun,
Holiday Antlerless Deer Gun (in open zones),
elk gun (in open counties)
antelope gun (in open areas)
Thanks Dave. I 100% guarantee you can hunt hogs the dates we have on the WMA of the hunt. As James pointed out, you may do so with an Oklahoma hunting license.
IF we were hunting hogs during a concurrent open season that requires a tag (deer, turkey) you would have to possess a valid tag for that season.
The dates listed do not run concurrent with any open seasons requiring an additional tag.
I am putting together an information packet to send to everyone who has provided me an email that is interested In attending this group hunt. It will have all the details, links, information and even folks you can contact in an official capacity to ask questions.
I appreciate the concern Dave. But I assure you we are good to go.
Thanks
Dustin
This is a response I got from LT Col Farrar with the OK Dept of Fish and Wildlife on hog hunting in this WMA.
"You can kill hogs year round on most WMAs, including (redacted because of searchable format) WMA. Only restriction when you're not there during a big game season (I.e. deer and Turkey) is that you would have to use a weapon that is legal to take wildlife. No bazookas, missiles, etc."
I doubt anyone is going to be taking a bazooka along with them so we should be all good. Hopefully this clears things up on the regulations since the way it's worded in the OK regulations is confusing to say the least.
Excellent, thank you. The reason I was cautious is that here in Ark the Regs read similar but we can not hunt pigs on public land without a big game season being open at the time, due to their attempt at trapping
Glad to know that's not the case over there , I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for putting this together Dustin
Thanks Brokeaecher. As far as Game Wardens go Lt. Farar is a good dude. I have had contact with him in the field way before he was a LT.
No Problem Dave! Being well informed and knowing the law keeps us out of trouble.
I'm looking forward to the hunt. Should be a great time!
***UPDATE***
Info email/pm sent. If I didn't have your email I send a copy to your Pm box. You may have to cut and paste it to your computer to access the hyperlinks.
I will send gps coordinates to the camp site probably the first week of March.

Merry Christmas
I was really hoping to make this hunt, but the dates coincide with my grandson's birthday in Tennessee. He has some health issues, so we missed last year due to being cautious with COVID. Look forward to seeing some photos!
Email received Dustin and it should be a good time!
Email sent to everyone who has committed to this point to the hunt.
If anyone is interested in this hunt please shoot me a PM with your email address and I'll get you caught up.
Looking forward to meeting everyone and getting after some wild hogs.
