Where are you guys getting your bamboo for trilams at?
PM sent
Do you want pre cut bamboo backings already flattened on the belly side or do you have the capability to cut your own slats from a full bamboo pole?
The last stuff i bought was split in about 2" strips but still needed ground. Enlighten me on how to start from the raw material Roy. Im honestly open to either.
I buy whole poles of bamboo and cut out 2 inch wide lengths, then run them through my drum sander to flatten the belly side. I normally get 4 backings out of one pole. Once the belly side it flattened, I trace my bows pattern on it and cut that out almost to the line on the bandsaw, then use a hand sander to get right to the line. Then I taper the backing from 1/8th thick at the riser to 1/16th thick at the tips.
Roy are you cutting your poles with a band saw when you cut your 2"slats out of it?
Ya know what, I messed up there.
No I split them with a machete and a hammer.
They split very easy and straight, you can run a split the entire length in about a minute.
Sent you a PM.
"No I split them with a manchette and a hammer."
What the heck is a manchette ?
Never mind, I looked it up...
Each man carried by his left side a long manchette, or sword-knife, secured to his girdle. :biglaugh:
Put yer bifocals on ole timer?
