Title: Hunting in Portugal;
Post by: UncasUK on October 01, 2021, 02:57:12 PM
Planing a trip to Portugal for Jan/Feb 2022 for Red or Fallow deer/Boar up to around 50/75kg
Useing a 45lb hybrid bow and carbon 500s at 29'' 40gr point insert and either Zwicky delta 170gr
or Magnus stinger 150gr two blade heads I would like to keep the wieght to under 450gr all up.
I would like to use 4'' feathers but not sure whether I should have shield or parabolic fleching.
Would it make a difference, and should I have a r/h or l/h twist or just stright fletching.
Your advice would be appreciated.

Portugal is a beautifull country with friendly people and awsome food. Red Deers in the iberic peninsula don t grow big in body weight and mostly below 180 kg for mature buck.Mature fallow bucks are much smaller in the 70-80 kg range. Your rig is ok as long as your shot placement is good on academic shot angle/shooting range.
If tuning is good there is no difference between shield or parabolic and helical or straight/light offset regarding to arrow flight. I find parabolic shape and straight (or 1 or 2 degrees offset) fletching little less noisy in flight. Same for broadheads, I prefer non vented BH vs vented ones regarding to arrow flght noise

Hybridbow,

Yes I know the hospitality is wonderful, I have been on several occasions.
Doing Monteria for Boar with my 7x64 rifle, just thought it was about time I used a bow.

Your setup is fine for what you've described.  Have a great hunt and let us know all about it.  I was there once a few years ago on business.  Fantastic people, food and hospitality.  If the hunting is good too, I would be excited to go there again!
