Title: Rock harness question
Post by: Dave Lay on September 14, 2021, 09:49:42 PM
I'm still in the trial basis on trying a RC harness and have a question. I'm using a black diamond BOD , I felt it was going to be great until today hanging stands, my issue is walking any distance with it on and it working down my hips I'm not a skinny guy so my butt and hips are probably smaller than my waist but I had to take it off, put it in my pack and put it back on when I reached my tree. Has anyone else had this issue ?im thinking this isn't going to work for me but love the idea of the RC harness.

Do you use a linesman belt while climbing?  If so you can loosen it up and put it up around your neck and it acts like suspenders

I absolutely love my alpine bod. For me that's the beauty of it having it on and not even knowing.  The tether that goes around the tree, I slip that over my shoulders like a guitar strap.

Like Arthurs and mec, I slip my tether line on my Alpine Bod up over my shoulder. I've never had a problem with it riding down on me while walking in it unless I don't cinch the waist down tight.

One other tip, I ALWAYS double check the waist cinch and the leg straps for tightness once I get to my stand site before climbing. Sometimes I walk a good distance to get to my spot with the harness on and things can loosen up a little.

Best of luck to you and stay safe!    :archer:

It sounds like we are similar in body shape.  I bought a climbing harness  (don't remember brand, but could be an Apine).  I really have not had any major slippage problem.  I do check it after walking in and may tighten things up a bit. But usually it is fine.

I sewed a makeshift loop designed to break to go on the side of belt. I run the tether from tree through it and attach in front. It just keeps it out the way while hunting.

Good thoughts on using the lineman belt over my shoulder I'll try that . That's  part of my issue I think , I use 2 ropes and have those hanging off my belt while walking. Not a lot of weight, but some I'll try that, thanks

With the alpine bod, what are you attaching you linesman rope to? There are no rings on the side of the alpine bod to attach rope

I too have a Dad Bod and I forget mines on till I go to climb into the truck after a half mile hike, so not sure what to tell you! Mine is Petzl Corax, it's very adjustable and a favorite of climbing schools that need to be able to fit many shapes and sizes of people

No expert w the harness so take that into consideration. I put carabineers directly to belt outside leg buckle

On the lineman's belt, I've attached a 30" loop of 1" climbing webbing around the back of the belt and hook onto the loop ends on either side. I took clear plastic dip and dipped the loops in that to give them rigidity to make it easy to hook my carabiner to , works great !!  There's some you tube videos on using this harness for hunting and different ways to rig it . This harness works well because it doesn't require you to step into it an has a waist belt with buckle as well as leg buckles

With my saddle I do same thing, take my lineman's line over my neck and clip on the other side, stopped the sagging.

I just ordered a battle belt and inner linesman belt from Eastern Woods Outdoors.  Having the linesman belt makes life so much simpler.  Unfortunately, it's a 3+ week wait time as they are custom made.

I'll use the RCH by itself in a standard type stand and the battle belt for hanging sets and in conjunction with my sit drag.  Still on the fence with the Treehopper Recon.  The bungee belt mod helped, but it's still not the perfect system.

I did just hear that John at Tacti-saddle is coming out with something soon or just did.
