Post by: forrest-hunter on August 02, 2021, 06:48:16 PM
Any suggestions on how to stop screw on points and broadheads from becoming loose when shooting

Rub a little string wax on the threads.

String wax has worked for me as well. Can press them through a plastic bag as you screw them in as well, works like a teflon tape.

A wrap of Teflon tape will keep them tight.

I use Bohning Ferr-L-Tite Cool Flex glue.  It provides a semi-permanent hold, but allows point removal by adding a little heat to the point or placing the point in hot water.

A little dab of string wax has worked for me for decades-simple and effective.

Plumbers tape, cheap, easy to find, easy to use. I keep a roll in my shop, in my tackle box. Only need about a 2" piece. Wrap around threads and screw in. Too much tape and your reaching for the pliers. Been using this instead of wax since moving to AZ. The heat here and the friction from the carpet bales seems to dissolve the wax.

I must be the odd ball  :biglaugh. I just take pliers and get down on them real hard and they stay pretty good.

Same here, only I clamp the point in a vice and give the shaft a good twist.  Also works to identify any inserts that are about to break loose.

McDave I am doing that with an aluminum insert that I had on a hunt, and had glued a broadhead on. I can't get the insert out of the shaft. I put it in the vise and back and forth, making head way,but have not got it out. I guess I somehow got glue on the threads. Whatever it is it is in there!

If I can find them I have a bunch of little rubber O rings that are made to keep screw-on points tight. Send my your address and I will send you some.

Use right wing feathers and they will tighten during impact of the target., and not loosen like left wing.

Dental floss.  Wrap about three turns in the threads and screw them into the arrow.
Warm weather melts and loosens string wax.

I use my own blend of string wax that I added a good amount of "Georgia Pine Rosin" in and it has a really good tack so to speak. Just a good rub across the threads and no more loose points.  Other thing is Teflon tape as already mentioned.
Don't have that go in kitchen drawer and find some plastic wrap and cut a very small piece with scissors and use that like Teflon.
Got any pine trees losing sap or pitch just put the threads in the goo and screw on . Nice and sticky with a pleasant smell.

Beeswax or string wax. Keeps them nice and tight.

Right wing feathers.... tighten at impact.

That's all I use... since the 80's
