Title: Lack of Participation in St. Judes Auction
Post by: 4runr on June 05, 2021, 08:27:49 PM
What's up with that?
There used to be lots of fun and carrying-on during the Auction.
Kinda dead.

I usually donate a ton of stuff I make in my shop, this year I had a botched hip replacement, standing in my shop is troublesome so I couldn't get my heart into it this year.

The hip is getting slightly better but it has been 7 months.

I am having trouble fi ding the link to the bidding pages. I can find the donation page, but not the bidding pages. That might have something to do with it. I haven't been around in awhile, but I don't think I have lost that much bb savvy.

Yep, for some reason bidding pages are not showing up today. I had placed a bid on an item Friday, went to check it today and bidding pages arent there

Just checked 10 seconds ago, they are there.
Over on the far right where it says St Jude auction 2021 forums, there is a tiny box unread posts, if it's a +, click the box to a -.

Guess I'm not seeing what you aren't.
I check in every couple ours all day long.
I click on "new posts sense your last visit"
I'm seeing several new posts on St. Jude.  :dunno:
And the bids are mostly higher than the item is worth.

Post-covid doldrums, I think. We are like bears just waking up from hibernation, and we are not up to speed yet. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I just got back from bear hunting and I say the bears are far more active than the biding...I bid on the hope bow before I left and I'm still high bid  :dunno:

I know it is easy to be lazy... or distracted by life, but previously there was a link to the auctions on the home page.  Perhaps everyone isn't remembering, or maybe taking the time to leave the Powwow and go to the other links. (?)

Guilty.  Working crazy hours and in the middle of moving is my poor excuse.  Try to do better next year.

I'm encouraged that some of the bidding seems to be doing very well despite the year we've all had. The fact that items are still being donated and people are still bidding is encouraging to me.

Easy answer, I haven't the money to give for more than what an item is worth.  Glad many of you have excess cash, but some of us don't.   :dunno:

I'm in the middle of purchasing another 40 acres and helping my daughter purchase a home.
Plus we just leased 800 acres and need to sublease that to recoup that money.
I'm keeping a pretty close watch on the bank accounts right now.

Guess you weren't here when Kim Coot's 2 dozen cookies went for $6000 and little  Delainy's 2 pound cakes went for $7000.   :jumper: :jumper: :jumper:

Those days were fun with the good natured "fights" that drove the price of an item that was really worth very little out of sight!

Yep, bids went more than they were worth.... that was the whole point...  it was for the kid's .... not the worth of the item.

I'm in sort of a pit of depression since about a year ago, I'm still making bows, and I still shoot here and there, but so much has gotten me down.  I'm going to donate some $$$ to St Jude's, but I didn't make anything and there's really no more room for "stuff" around here.

X2 These bids are charitable donations sent straight to St Jude. We just have some generous folks willing to throw out some incentives to get the kids some funding.

I've won several items on the auction over the years and when I grab those items I never once stop to think about what kind of deal I got on them. I think about how I am grateful to have been a very small part of a very big blessing for families with dying children. I've also been fortunate enough to develop friendships with some of the individuals who have donated over the years. For those who are/were business owners often they've earned my repeat business because I like doing business with folks who do good things for the right reasons.

This auction can be SOOOO much more than just a woods bum's eBay for traditional archery equipment. This tradition is an opportunity to change lives, further the word of God to these families at the hospital, battle cancer and evils in our most vulnerable populations, grow as a community of bowhunters, make friends with like minded people, and have the opportunity to enjoy some stuff that you might not otherwise get to use.

Heck, one year I won the entire collection of Traditional Bowhunter Magazine. When I flipped through them all I relisted them. I never wanted to keep and store them indefinitely but it was sure as heck fun to get to walk through the history of our sport for decades worth of articles and see how things have changed.

What's a fair time to wait on a reply to a PM about an item? I thought it would go for more, but it didn't. Paid right away and sent a PM. Item was updated to show payment was made.

Crickets.
