I bought me a 2 piece Target recurve today on the big auction site 40.00

Well it sure looks like a nice bow. Not sure about the two piece part though, I prefer the intentional type, but to each his own. You got super glue?
Things to do list
Buy some rubber bands, the wide one's
1/8" wood dowels
JB weld
Rebar.
I see hope.
You're going to need some duct tape...
Dave.
Hey I bid on that one too! I have fixed many bows worse than this and I believe this should go back together perfectly. I'd mask it off and use a thin epoxy like the West System 105 resin with 206 hardener because it will saturate every little crack and void. I usually apply the epoxy, wait 30 or so minutes, then re-apply I wouldn't even waste any time on dowels or pins. The repair should be completely invisible and result in a nice shooter!
Alan
Thanks Alan
Nice... Good luck with it Brudder... How many lbs. is it??
Following this one. I have a Bruno that arrived 2 piece compliments of USPS. Maybe there is hope.
29#@28"
Not in a hurry Long
And I will be making it Left handed
How will you make it a lefty? And why?
I shoot lefty
When I get it in the mail I will scratch my head for a while and start cutting.
I need it in my hands and it will come to me. :)
Take pictures..
That glue joint is a good candidate for reinforcement. Surfacing veil would strengthen it for sure and it would not be noticeable.

Looking forward to the process. I gave my broken bow a second look and didn't really see a way but maybe following you will flip a switch or two 🤔
I got the bow today, Looks in good shape beside the obvious.
I think I will try avcase West Systems.
what would be wrong with smooth-on, I could use a small water color brush to make sure good contact everywhere and then more on top of that????
You could make EA-40 work, just use a little heat from a gun or blow dryer to warm up the epoxy and the wood to make it flow.

99% of the glue joint is some kind of plastic Bakelite or something

What's the chances if you also put an I-beam in it before glue up?
Or do you want it original?

I think I would find out what exactly that material is before attempting any glue up. You might need to use some Huntsman's Araldite or another speciality adhesive depending on what that material is.
That grey material looks a lot like PC-7 an epoxy paste to my eye. Trying to repair someone else's failed repair is dicey in my experience. JMO
Some similarities between our unhealthy patients.

No repairs have been done, it's a clean break
Look at it this way black phenolic is grey until finished
I would cut the limbs off and bolt them on a new riser .

and the rest of the crossection looks like wood veneer lams on the back? what is the yellowish layer on the back surface? Looks like it broke clean (not like glass, although it is hard to tell from the pic orientation) If so, I would consider a glass lam overlay in the sight window area, as the break seems to have started somewhwere, and I see no sign of shear failure in the bakelite/phenolic
This is the Back, looks just like the fiberglass on the limbs.
I can put white glass overlays on the back and belly of the riser, also both sides of the site window, The site window is cut at least 1/4" past center.
Oldrawhide42 I was going to glue it back together anyway and map out the side profile on paper.
I still may make a new T/D riser

And maybe the index finger cut a little deep? hard to tell from the pic
Paper Phenolic Is what some other people say for the black
I did about 12 dry runs to get it to line up like I wanted, reliving areas mostly on the maple? and rosewood? to get it to fit good. The arrow rest threaded hole helped to line it up.

Had to pin it with 1/4" fiberglass pins to keep it in place.
Wax on the bolt, maybe it will come out
I used Devcon 2 ton epoxy I already had.
I had to cut this piece off, it was cracked and crooked, that was the way to go.

SOME of Harold Groves Prestressed and Dana Stressed bows are knowed to have limb twist.
I'm going to glue fiberglass on the back and belly of the site window 1st and I will string it. ;)

I'm going to try to shoot a righty lefty and a righty righty and see how it works
Be sure to wear a helmet and athletic cup. :o
It does look good, Mark. What's the draw weight?
29#@28"
alot of target bows back in the day were low poundage
With the right arrows she should be a dream to shoot.
Those two 1/4" fiberglass pins + the Devcon 2 ton epoxy will hold that 29# real easy....
Nice work, Max...
I'm surprised a certain person or two didn't say anything about those two big funny looking titties sticking out of that riser... I guess it is accepted because it was made by a prominent bow maker... :dunno: A bowmaker who knew that adding weight far out on the ends of the riser would help to stabilize the bow while shooting... Imagine that... :o
Very nice! Back from the dead. And it's got awesome Tetons ;)

There just giving you a hard time.
The weight is 3lb 2oz on this one, so you did good on yours
 :wavey:
I sanded the back and belly overlays today, tried to work outside a little 88* 73%RH and feels like temp. is 99* I'm sure it that way all across the south, 14" of rain this week for me, runoff water was 12' deep in my creek 5" in 1 hour.
I got the site window overlay shaped and glued on.
