Woohoo! Saturday was New Bow Day! And there is nothing better than that new bow smell. I commissioned this beauty from master bowyer, Mike Dunnaway, of Wild Horse Creek Bows for my Gould's turkey hunt in Mexico next spring. It was supposed to get here today but, surprise, it arrived early! I cannot be more pleased with how it turned out. A big shout out to Mike Pyeatt at Rosewood Archery Products for supplying the wood for this piece of art. This is Mr. Dunnaway's Mariah model. It is a two piece takedown recurve that is 54" long and pulls 53# @ 28". The riser is birdseye maple with a kingwood I-beam. It has a hard maple limb core with kingwood veneer. The handle wrap is beaver tail. I shot it for the first time yesterday and it shoots as good as it looks! Squirrel season opens this coming Saturday and I am confident that this new bow will get broken in then.

SWEET !!!
Great looking bow-congrats!
Beauty to be sure. Congrats
That's a beauty Darren!
Great looking bow!
Very nice!
I've never shot a two piece bow like that, the only one I have shot was a connection hinge and that did not bother me. Does it feel really solid at the release? Any vibration or anything?
Really nice

Gary, I have an old Thunder Stick Mag with a hinge connection and five other bows with the new sleeve connection that everyone is going to. I greatly prefer the sleeve. If someone handed you one of these bows without telling you first, you would never know that it is a takedown. The construction method, at least with Mike's bows, actually adds some weight to the riser causing less vibration. There is no noise and no wiggle - the connection is solid. Plus, you don't feel the connection with your fingers like I do with my Thunder Stick.

Have fun with your new stick!

Very nice.
Really nice bow!
Congratulations! That's a good looking stick!
STUNNING! Those wood choices are excellent.
Looks great! I really like the woods in that bow!
Congrats it's a sweet stick! What's your draw length and do the limb stack any at anchor?
Great looking bow!
Beautiful...Congrats!

I draw between 27 and 28 inches. I own 2 of Mike's longbows and 2 of his recurves and I have never noticed any of them ever stacking.

Beautiful bow! She looks like a Gould digger to me!
I enjoyed the story of your Ocellated turkey hunt in TBM. Impressive decision as a true friend in the end. Hope this bow and hunt provide a grand adventure as well; with a better ending of course.

Thanks for the kind words, Gary. Right now, it looks like I will be getting to hunt Ocellated turkeys again next year. It's a long story but I have been invited to go on a writer's junket hosted by TanKab Outfitters in the Yucatan. I figured out a way to get my flintlock smoothbore down there so I might hunt with it since I already killed one with a bow. That will take place in February and then I will head to the Sierra Madres to hunt Gould's in late May.

A writers junket at a turkey hunting outfitter in the Yucatan! huh? I guess we'll just have to add that to the list of things my high school guidance counselor failed to tell me on career day. The ocellated is on my bucket list as I think they're the most beautiful of the turkey sub species and it would be really cool to take one with a bow. My only concern is crossing a border headed south when the rest of humanity is headed in the opposite direction as fast as they can. Best of luck on both those hunts and I'll be watching for the stories.
Beautiful bow sir! Good luck on your next adventures!
One of Mike's bows is on my short list. Enjot!!!
