I don't know how many of you know this, but it is with a heavy heart that I report, Steve Smith, better known as Bearbowman has passed away. He had some previous medical issues, but he lost his battle do to the covid.
Steve was well known throughout the country for his traditional archery passion, especially when it came to Papa Bear. He bought and sold a lot of bows, in fact I still have my first 1964 Kodiak that I bought from him. He had a business making strings, and without a doubt he was one of the best. Steve was from "West by God Virginia," and loved his God and his life to the fullest.
You will be missed my friend, but our loss is heavens gain.
RIP Bearbowman.
We are seeing a lot of good people leave us way to soon, prayers to his family

Our Brother comes to you, as swift and straight, as an arrow shot into the Sun...

RIP.
I met him at a shoot a few years ago and he made me a string while I waited. Sorry he's gone.
Very sad news. Rest easy Steve.
Sad to hear...... prayers up to our Father.....
I Loved traveling/hunting with Steve. He was hilarious, sometimes without meaning to be. Loyal and brutally honest. He was observant and could read a person like he could see right in their soul. That came in handy many times. So many good times and funny stories we had. He was in awe of Nature. Quick to laugh and had a huge heart. Really, really going to miss him. I was blessed and honored to have had him as a friend.
My first encounter with Steve came right after I posted an ad wanting a 1964 Kodiak. Lo and behold, a box showed up at my house in Washington state with a note saying I could check it out and then send him payment later if I wanted it. What a guy!!! What a loss!!!
May God bless Steve and his family.
Prayers for the family. Godspeed Steve

Prayers sent for Steve's family and friends
So sad to hear this. Prayers for Steve's family during this hard time.
Prayers going out for Steve's family, I never knew Steve personally but remember all his post's about all his Bear bows and the beautiful strings he made. I'm sure Steve will be missed by many.
Kurt
Steve is finally sharing a campfire with Papa Bear. Life is good . . . the afterlife is better. RIP Steve.
My condolences to Steve's family and friends.
Sorry to hear this . Didn't know him personally but knew him by his post.
Peace and prayers to Steve's family and friends. Steve was a great promoter of traditional archery and a great guy.
I had several strings he made, they are worn out now because they were about the best you could get. What is good is that Steve spent time at a show while he was making strings sharing with me how he built him them. I still use those lessons to build my own strings. It would be a good goal to pass that knowledge on as Steve did.
Prayers sent
Really sorry to hear this. RIP brother.
Steve was a great guy and a friend. I'm heartbroken
Rest In Peace Steve
I will miss him. bought, sold and traded with Steve for about 30 years.
I never knew him personally but bought some strings from him on several occasions. I used to enjoy the website he had with all his accent strings. Sad to hear this oddly enough I was sitting at my desk a few months ago contemplating a new string and wondering how to get in touch with him...
I remember buying a string from him.
This really breaks my heart. We talked on the phone quite a bit and always talked about meeting up at Cloverdale one year, it just never worked out though. I bought lots of Bear collectibles and strings from him, but speaking with him about the history of archery was awesome. Rest In Peace brother :(
No wonder he did it email me back or call me back. He was a great sponsor of Tradgang for years and years and years. I hate to hear this but I really am glad that I at least know since he didn't return my calls or emails.
What a great guy and a Patriot for traditional bow hunting, who loved Tradgang to the most.
I had no idea.... sad to say the least... God Speed to his family. ...
