I'm one of those fellers that love one piece recurves! It seems that they are becoming harder to find. Are bowyers going away from the one piece? If you all don't mind, can you give me some of your recommendations for bowyers that still build the tried and true one piece recurve.
Thanks
Jason
Of the bows I am personally familiar with, Black Widow and Robertson make very fine one-piece recurves. Robertson offers the true one-piece recurve, as well as a two piece recurve with bow bolt, which is my favorite because it feels and looks like a one-piece but can be broken down into two pieces if desired. I'm sure there are many more that I'm not familiar with.
Try a Javaman Assyrian and you'll wonder why more aren't made like that. Also I have a John McCullough Grayling Spirit, if you can find one, you'll be happy you did. For the longest time one piece recurves have been my mainstay. I appreciate the simplicity and have never complained about their performance either.
Martin still makes a few. So does Wes Wallace. Their are a number of bowyers that make 50's style one piece recurves as well.
For what it's worth, I think I would also include Cari- Bow into this mix.
Bear archery still has several models of recurves.
This from Primitive Pete:

I'm the same way. Just something about a one piece bow that appeals to me!
I shoot a Timberhawk Strike. He's out of Indiana so might be close to you.
Bear, Blacktail, Widow, Martin and I'm sure there's more. I bought a 62" PA-X Widow two years ago. Love it.
Toelke Chinook and Black Widow PSR
Scroll through the Sponsor Links and check out one of the many great Bowyers at a time. You'll be surprised how many are available. Good luck I lovem too!
I owned one of the earliest Chinooks that Dan Toelke made, it is a particularly nice 1 pc. recurve, stable, very fast and very quiet. He also makes a fine static recurve, the 64" Super Static which I've shot as well. It can accommodate a really long draw length.
I shot a Shafer of a guys on a hunt and liked it.
I have a one piece Robertson and a one piece Widow. I didn't think I'd miss a take down until I flew to Kodiak Island with my one piece. Not that big a deal but it was more expensive as I had to check it instead of packing it in my duffel.
I think the new Widow PA is a dandy recurve. Love a one piece Lots of good old vintage bows are one pc. [attachment=1]
If you can ever get your hands on a Jack Howard they are fantastic. I just found out first hand.... :notworthy:[attachment=1]
I had a Damon Howatt Hunter that Martin still makes I believe. A Big River that probably won't be made again. Kota makes one, there are many others.

I have a Strike on the way, supposed to get it next week. Scott doesn't live to far from me, takes me about 20 minutes to get to his shop. Also have an older Bear Grizzly I shoot a lot. Mainly look'n for custom bowyers. Does Robertson still make the Tribal Styk? I've spoke with Blacktail which is not to far from either and they're not making any one piece these days. Looking at Wes Wallace as a maybe.
Thanks everybody.
I just got a Hurst "Prana". Still trying to figure out which arrow it likes, but a very nice shooting bow.
We do them and one piece bows are our passion. We do not do a 3 pc at all. www.stjoeriverbows.com

I like a one piece bow also but I can see the draw for a take down or 3 piece if you do alot of traveling.I have a Black Widow PSR 56' 47@28" and its probably my all time favorite.I do wish it was a little heavier though....
My favorites to date. Teolke Chinook, Kota Killum, Fox Breed, Great Northern Super ghost. Heard the Holms River runner is nice as well.
Being mainly a longbow shooter, I don't like Heavy Recurves. My favorite one piece recurve is a Crow Creek by Elmer Patton. I know he is retired and finding one is near impossible. It is as light as a Toelke Pika...tippit

I love my Great Northern Ghost. I've got an older Bear and Ben Pearson that are both one piece and great shooters as well.
Schafer, I've had 3 of them, all were excellent bows. Robertson makes a great one piece, he can put a bow bolt in it if you want a two piece for travel that looks and shoots like a one piece. Others that I'd recommend are the the Tolke and Norm Jacobson's Bear Paw.
As mentioned I am a one-piece fan. All my longbows and my recurve are solid bows. I have a Martin MTD that was traded for but not been shot and a Brigham kit bow that is also a three piece, one might get to like it. I can see a two piece recurve and/or longbow potentially in my future.
I've owned and shot a truckload of bows over the years. I have not shot anything better than the Samick Sage one piece recurve. Put a FF string on it and it out performs my custom recurve at 1/5 the price. A really nice bow that is not getting the recognition it deserves.
Personally I don't like the grip and shelf cut of Bear bows. I like a heavier 3 piece for shooting tournaments or backyard shooting but if I'm spending two or three hours walking and stalking a lighter bow is nice.
This Mamba fits that perfectly. Short, light, a grip that isn't too deep.
However it wouldn't be the one I put in the luggage for a hunt out of state or in Canada.
Thanks for all the feedback. I've had several 3 piece bows, but still prefer the feel of a one piece. I have older ones, but custom one piece don't seem as plentiful these days. If I travel to hunt it would be driving so that's not an issue.
I really like the look of the Tribal Styk but I don't think he makes that style anymore. Blacktails are awesome too if I could find one.
Thanks again
Both types have there place and advantages. I do like one piece bows.
Any way I have a Fox Breed, Checkmate Attila and a Mahaska.

Those are great looking bows John (beeman)! If I traveled by air I would certainly look at takedowns, but since I don't I only have one pieced bows...love the looks of them!
Bernie
Bryan,
Is that one of yours? It's a looker for sure!
Gary
Got itch to post some pics of the bows I listed above. These are full profile.
Rich K.
Yeah Gary. Pretty sure you looked at it when u were out. Thanks. I like it too :bigsmyl:
Beeman (Bryan).....I don't know where the name John came from on my previous post! :banghead:
Bernie
No worries Bernie all good.
A Robertson Peregrine, Coywolf or Wolfer should get a serious look. The Peregrine below has been with me almost 30yrs

I just got a Hurst "Prana". Still trying to figure out which arrow it likes, but a very nice shooting bow.
This is my Prana which is a Static recurve and 59" that should be in my hands on Saturday. Coltin had it built in about 22 days and he just did Marks in front of mine.
A really great young man that responds to Every email, text and phone call and a pleasure to talk to.
Here's mine below .
My first trad bow some 20 years ago was a Jeffery classic hunter. It was a fantastic 50's style bow. I had a Schafer one piece that I regrettably sold just due to the fact it was a little heavy on poundage. I have been eyeing a Widow KB for ground blind hunting, they shoot like a much longer bow for sure.
Wes Wallace still builds one piece and Silvertip are available in one piece. If I had deep pockets those two would be on my list.
My Blacktail Sitka is two years old now and even though BT no longer offers a one piece I was half tempted to try and talk Norm into making one more before I ordered the Sitka.
It's sad Blacktail doesn't offer them anymore, there one piece bows are awesome!
Robertson and Wes Wallace are on my list.
The Border Mosstrooper and Backwoods composites peaks my interest also, but not sure if I'm ready for the super curve just yet.
Anybody familiar with super curves?
Thanks again for all the suggestions
Schafer Silvertip one piece recurve, Ive taken two shots with it and got on bear and one buck, keep in mind I and many others know Im a poor shot....
I had a 3 piece Silvertip several years ago, great bow! Haven't had the privilege of shooting the one piece.
Mahantango Raven is a great recurve.
Cari-Bow and Warrick Harvey Crowned Eagle
