Title: Super Shrew Review
Post by: Terry Green on February 25, 2021, 12:18:08 PM
I had several people email me about my Super Shrew from the LTR Hunt thread so I thought I'd just make a few comments about it....

This is the 4th Shrew I've owned, and I consider it to be the best.  All the Shrews I've owned have been great mind you, but this one excels above in two categories.

#1 -  Smoothness.  This Super Shrew has a draw of silk, all the way back to anchor. It may be the smoothest drawing bow I've ever shot, and I've shot a lot.

#2 - Quietness. Same Bow Hush Silencers I've been making for nearly 20 years on all Shrews, so all things are being equal.  This bow is the quietest, no doubt about it.  I was very impressed from my 1st drop of the string.

Ok, so all the other stuff is as always, great craftsmanship, fit and finish, no hand shock, shoots where ya look.... example.....

I received this bow a while back and drew it a few time in my house, put the Bow Hush on the string, then set it aside as its been very hectic as usual for me lately.  Then it was time to go to TX, so I decided I'd take the Super Shrew, if it shot good.  Well, I took 3 shots with it at the house and said "good enough". So I broke her down, yes its a take down, and packed her up for our journey to adventure.  Got to TX and put her back together and shot her 3 more times, yep she's ready.

Next shot resulted in a 40 ft recovery.....

So, I now have a new travel companion.

BTW, in our 3rd year when we had grown so much we needed to offer Sponsorships to help finance the site Ron was the very 1st Sponsor of Tradgang. Ron has also been a great asset to the site since our inception almost 18 years ago.

The Shew Bows company is now run by Tim Cosgrove and Henry Bodnik, and Henry is the bowyer that built mine.  Really nice to see Shrew Bows carrying the legacy forward by these two guys.

And thank you Ron for your grand contributions to our lifestyle.  :campfire:

Lovey lil bow. Nice review. Just curious what your draw length is? I had inquired about a 54" shrew but my draw length was a little too long I was told.

That is a good review Terry. I really like the one that is brown, but has green glass and accents.

Terry , I'm glad you like the bow but then I knew you would. Those new Super Shrews and Classic Hunter II's are butter smooth and quiet as a baby passing gas.  :archer:

Tell me why are you hiding your bow behind the javelina  :dunno:

Terry I want to thank you for starting Trad Gang, I don't know what I'd do without it. The first thing I do in the morning is grab my coffee and log on to TG. It has become routine every morning for 18 years.
The people on TG are my traditional archery family and communicating with them gives me great pleasure. Please folks, support Terry in any way that you can, we need to make sure we are always going to have this site.

I examined the Shrew of Terry's up close and it is everything Terry says and more. Excellent workmanship, beautiful lines and design, and it gets the job done without noise. Terry's first shot at game, that javelina was exactly on target -- I took that photo of Terry and the shot was perfect. I am really impressed with that bow. And it is a two-piece takedown. What's not to love! It's a keeper.

And, Ron, you are right. We all need to pitch in and keep Trad Gang going. It has become an important part of our lives, and Terry works tirelessly for our benefit.

Thanks for the review Terry, it makes me want one even more.  I have shot them several times in Kalamazoo, but never pulled the trigger.  I had one of the Siberian Tigers in my hands when they first came out, and was thinking hard on it and Ron was sure I was buying it, the next thing I knew my daughter took it shot it and was handing Ron 100 dollar bills!!!!  I believe it was the second one sold that year at the show, Ron can correct me if I'm wrong.  She loves it, just doesn't get much time to shoot it between working and her collage classes.  I still grab it from time to time and shoot it, they are a joy to shoot.

Jason,  I remember you made her some Siberian Tiger arrows to match her bow. She showed them off to me at Elm Hall.  :goldtooth:

58" - 56@28 I draw 27.5 to 28 depending on the  bow I'm shooting and its grip.

Ron, I have no idea why I did that as it was the 1st time.  All I can think of is I remember adjusting the Javie for the pic, and I guess I just forgot to pick the bow back up.  :banghead:

Oh I see. Thanks Terry.. I really like how the lower limb tip is flat as opposed to the top tip which is tapered. For now my 58" bearpaw mohawk hunter functions great as a shorty. Huge shout out to Henry B, the guy is a bow making genius.

Yes Ron, I did make up some cedar arrows for her, don't want to hijack Terrys bow review thread, but here's a picture of them together.

I have a Shrew Siberian Tiger on my radar, just not sure if it's going to be a Classic Hunter, or the Lil Favorite.  Hopefully next year I can shoot them in Kalamazoo and decide.

Thanks Ron, I remember reading that review, Erica's bow is a 54" 43# @ 28", and it still shoots with authority, and hits hard. It also didn't have the leather wrapped grip, which drew me to it.  I remember talking with Henry about the matte finish on the bow, and how it felt a bit tacky in my hand, it doesn't seem to feel slippery in the hand, even when it's cold here in Michigan.  I'm trying to decide if I want to go with the longbow or recurve.

Thanks Jon, they were truly a labor of love for my daughter.  Those arrows took me  about 2-3 months to finish with all the dipping and cresting I had going on.  She doesn't shoot them very often, she's afraid of losing or wrecking one.   :biglaugh:
