How do you use the bleeders with the old green Bear Razorhead when your using a wood shaft ? The tapered point goes to far into the broadhead to use the bleeder. What is or what was the correct way to make it work?

Not sure if this is the 'right' way to do it or not, but it works;
Taper the wood shaft.
Insert firmly into the broadhead. Suggest using a broadhead wrench & much caution.
Mark the shaft at the back of the broadhead.
Remove the shaft and lay it alongside the broadhead, lining up the mark with the back of the ferrule.
Now, mark the shaft taper at the back of the bleeder slot. Give yourself just a wee bit more when you mark it.
Remove the excess taper with a fine saw or roll a sharp knife across it on a flat surface and break off.
Do a dry run to make sure the bleeders will clear & it spins true. Again, much caution.
If everything is good to go, glue it up.
After you do a few, you will probably be able to just eye-ball the amount to cut off.
Install the bleeder before mounting the head.
I just cut the shaft taper off shorter with my band saw and I never use the razorhead with out the bleeder .
Ok. Some good information. I will install the bleeder then mount the head and see how that works.

I am not sure about the saw. I know that a couple of the old six packs that I have bought came with a slot cleaning tool.
Taper the arrow and then take a razor knife and place it about 1/2 inch below where the taper stops on the arrow. Roll the arrow with the knife where you want to cut on your work bench it while pushing the knife down on the arrow. This will cut the taper off. In the 60's I did this all day when hunting season got close. Dad owned an archery shop and got Bear arrows delivered in bulk, 144 to a box. Guys would come in and buy 2 or 3 arrows and head to the woods.
The broadheads never came with a saw. Multi packs came with a slot cleaner.
You can try my suggestion of cutting the taper off by practicing with a pencil and a razor knife until you get the hang of it. Very easy to do.
I have a few of the old inserts laying around. They are about 3/8" long.
I just taper the end of the shaft about 3/8"... Slide the Razorhead on, and make sure the slot cleaning tool fits in nicely. Glue on the head and insert the bleeder blade. :thumbsup:
Cut the taper shorter. The tool they came with is just a slot cleaner. Mounting the bleeder in the broadhead first isn't going to do anything. Cut the taper shorter.
Yes, a slot cleaner. My bad, just looked at my pack of unopened ones.
You can also take an Exacto knife and slice through the wood through the slot. In this manner, you can use a full taper with the bleeder. This was the way I was shown to do it almost 40 years ago.

I have a question for this topic...I came across a few old razorheads but they don't have the bleeders with them. Can you get the bleeders for them still or is that something that you have to have connections for?

See the little dimple behind the bleeder slot? At the back of the head (little rectangles).
The back of the blades fit in and kinda click.
I would loose them and then when gutting, wonder where it went. lol
You can put them on and remove them when ever you want. :archer:

Haven't found any in years. I quit using them for the safety factor. Never lost a double lung with the (2blade).
