If you are; don't hesitate, especially if you can afford it.
I have reached a point in my traditional archery hunting where I can hardly do anything anymore.
But, I have some hunting friends now that I would never have met if I didn't go on Traditional archery hunts.
There's just a different mindset with Trad people.
For starters they tend to think the same way you do.
It's wonderful how I have friends all over the United States and Canada.
We still stay in touch and I haven't been on a hunt for a couple years.
So the point I'm getting at is, you don't know how many more years you have to be able to do it and the experience is beyond imagination.
Can't believe you started this thread...
I was about to start a post about what happened to group hunts. Lots of great fun, great memories, and LEARNING info.
I can't even begin to recite all the value of being in on a group hunt ...
More later...
Pine.... any time brother... camp is open. :campfire:
Can't say I've ever done it..... a few times I've had buddies along but most of the time I'm a lone Wolf. Hoping one day soon to be able to take my grandsons along and share the important things......
I've done one, several years ago down at Ray's. I'm prioritizing making at least one happen in '21
Did a couple this fall. Bisch was there on one. Horsehide as well as a few others not on here.
Dang good times.
I have a group of 7-9 guys that I went to school with [ class of 66]. 14x20 tent. tons of great memories.
Usually get together with a group of 40-60 fellas to hunt pigs at Granger WMA in Texas in February every year going on 21 years. Not all trad but a good dozen or so are.
:coffee: :campfire: :archer2:
I only hunt with trad guys. I don't care what anyone thinks about that but that's how I roll.
Our group, the Fa Kow Ee tribe, has hunted at Wild Things 13 times. Awesome bunch of guys to share a camp with! No hog hunt scheduled this winter due to a host of reasons. We did the next best thing and spent a long weekend at a members deer camp.
I would like to hunt with a crew of primitive guys, you know self bows and stone points. Come in for lunch and sit around and knap a point or two before we went back out for the evening hunt
.
Have dutch oven suppers and sit around the camp fire and swap B. S. talking about everyone that's not there.
"Fa Kow Ee tribe"
I haven't heard anyone say that in many years.
You made my day.

It's not just about the hunting either.
The Joan Leonard Memorial Bunny Hunt (JLMBH) was an annual tradition here for years....
It started out with about a dozen TradGangers, and grew to about 95 for the last hunt.
Sadly, it just got to be too big to handle.... Met alot of good people that I still call friends.

Guess it depends on what you mean by "group hunt". There used to be 4 or 5 of us that would camp together and go out to our stands and blinds to hunt and we had a fantastic time. Then I got suckered into going out with about 12 guys who wanted to stand and drive hunt, and that was absolutely awful. Never do that again. :campfire:
A hunt camp of traditional bowhunters is a pretty great thing. I am looking forward to many more. It's not just the hunting. The campfires, the conversations, the meals, and the conversations make it a great atmosphere and experience. As long as I can still pull a trad bow, I'll be looking for hunt camp opportunities.
I met Mike Pfander on this site when I sent him a pm about an area in Arizona. I live in GA. He came out of his way to hunt with me and some buddies for several days. We ended up both killing javelina on the same day actually and sent him home with some mearns quail as a thank you. We keep up regularly.
Similarly, Jerry Russell posted on here about his lease having an opening. We have been hunting together for years now and he never stops learning from my wisdom. :)
Trad hunting and this site have made a lot of lifelong friends.
I'm a "loan wolf" too..... but not to the point of not enjoying hunts with others on occasion.
Its a great experience when others are in camp... sharing stories, blood trailing, recovery, and even shots at charging game. Yep, charging game..... just ask me.
The exclusive 'loan wolf's' are really missing out on some great hunts and experiences.
I can hunt every day at my ranch just hanging out by myself. Cut brush, mow or fix fence during the day.
Group hunts where you meet new friends, like Horsehide, are experiences you can't put a price on.
I've heard tell of Terry and his shots on wounded game. Word is that if he's in camp and there is a recovery that needs attention he's asked to be lead on recovery due to his shots on charging/fleeing game.
I've not gone on any organized Trad hunts although it's something I'd definitely like to do . Went to Wild Things when Ray was running it. Went by myself but there were a great group of guys there that weekend , really enjoyed that.
I was in a hunt club for many years, learned there that I don't like most hunters. I do feel That the Trad Hunters I have met are more my speed, most are not numbers or horn obsessed. Need to get my priorities straight and go on some of the group hunts.

Right there with you MCNSC, maybe we can meet up some time and so some hunting as well.
Cut my traditional trad journey teeth many years ago hunting javi in southern texas. Made many of friends, lost some and the group that gathers every February continues to shrink. I have so so many memories and of course pictures from over the years.
I too like Pine, continue ask myself, "how may more years do you have to be able to do it"? God willing lots!!
Have gone on several trad group hunts due to this forum, some in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, have met many, many wonderful people.
This year will be my third, attending the Boeuf Hunt in Louisiana hosted by (aka) DanielB89, a member here on the Gang. What a great group of guys and its coming up soon.
Step out of your comfort zone and try one, I did and it's priceless!!
Recently went on a small group trip with some likeminded trad hunters here in Ky. Great time, great Fellowship, great food, and lots of Fun. A little time hunting didn't hurt either. We are making it a annual event.
I did a Canadian black bear hunt many years ago, 2006-07ish with several members of this forum. It was the the only trip like it that I have ever done and it was a pretty awesome experience. I never even saw a bear but it is still one of the best hunting trips I have ever experienced.
I kind if fell out if traditional archery for a while. But it is calling me back and I hope to have the opportunity and means to do another hunt like that.
To anyone in the fence, just go for it. Its a great experience.
I'm interested in a primitive hunt,, someone set something up! I'm friends with many wheel bow shooters but I click more with traditional/Primitive folks.

Forgive my ignorance, I'm kind of new to this forum—I joined a few years ago when I first picked up a trad bow, but for some reason never ventured back. I'd be interested in going on some of the Trad Gang hunts and meeting like minded folks. Is there a schedule or list of hunts that we can view?
"The exclusive 'loan wolf's' are really missing out on some great hunts and experiences." Very true Terry. As a very lone wolf I truly enjoyed the last hunt at Solano with the trad gang. Hope to be able to go on another group hunt in the future.
