Folks, the 17th Howard Hill Classic is on schedule for 2021.
The dates are June 4th, 5th & 6th, 2021.
Held at Tannehill Historical State Park in McCalla, AL.
Hopefully all goes well for all Traditional Archery events this coming year.
Unfortunately the EXPO in Kalamazoo, MI has already been canceled for 2021, keep our thumbs up and prayers for us all.
FYI, some outstanding happenings are planned for the 2021 Howard Hill Classic.
Terry Harris
We by running like a sewing machine by June Terry!
Shawn~
Hope to make it this year........fingers crossed !!
Thanks guys.
I really didn't start this thread because, after all, it is so early, BUT, I would like to add something to it.
The "Championship Shoot Down" will be completely different.
The Recure and Longbow Shooters will no longer be in competition with each other. The Men & Women will now have their OWN Longbow & Recurve Shoot Downs.
The 1st place will receive $500, 2nd place $300 & 3rd place $200, a $4,000 payout in all.
Then, the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winners of the Women & Men will shoot for American Traditional Archer "TOP SHOT" trophy.
Twice the FUN, Twice the EXCITEMENT & Twice the PAYOUT!!!
Terry Harris
I been looking at shoot schedules for 2021. Talked to Gil last nite, we are are on board to come see you in June Terry.
Shawn~
Terry,
Don't know if your planning to have the "Rhonda Harris Second Chance" shoot off ( I made up the name, catchy huh?) 😂
I thought it was a hit last year, although I was drawn from the hat to shoot I shouldn't have since I actually achieved a score high enough to be in the regular shoot off ( God lives!). But Tommy "Longball" Ballinger and of all people your wife convinced me that I belong in that shoot down!
I felt like it was a mistake so I eased up on the other contestants to "let them" win🤭
Anyway I felt like suggesting you consider doing it again for "lesser" shooters to experience the pressures of competing for Championships.
It will be held again this year, called Rhonda's "Luck Of The Draw" shoot down for those that don't qualify for the main shoot down.
There will also be a bigger prize package.
The winners, Men & Women will receive their choice of a Bear "Grizzly" recurve or Bear "Montana" longbow. The 2nd Places will win $125.00 and 3rd Places will win $75.00. Pretty cool in my opinion.
Terry Harris
2020 was great fun and great weather as well.
Shawn~
That's great Terry! I'm sure it will be a hit again in 2021. Send my greetings to Rhonda and let her know she should be nicer to me and especially Ole Longball :biglaugh:
Merry Christmas and praying a Happier New Year!
Looking forward to seeing y'all John. You all seem to have so much fun and laughter, that's what it's all about, right?
Take care my friend and Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you all.
Terry Harris
Merry Christmas! Let's hope all goes well and that we can safely move around before long. Maybe by the time of the shoot the vaccine will be plentiful enough that we don't have to be so concerned about the virus. I sure missed not going last year, and I certainly don't want to miss again. Y'all do a great event. Thanks.
Well, 2021 is nearly upon us. It'll soon be time to REALLY start promoting the 17th Howard Hill Classic.
I'm hoping y'all help me pass the word.
Terry Harris
We Plan to Terry. Be a good time. Can already smell them Pines.
Shawn~
Terry I would love to make it to your shoot but not sure I ever will beings it is the week before we go to the Cloverdale shoot in Indiana. Cloverdale is where all the guys from our Monday Night Indoor League get to Campout together so I won't miss that one. I'll keep my fingers crossed, you never know. Keep an eye on that SMAG guy, he looks like he could be dangerous.
Kurt
Better get down here Kurt yer missing out. Drive to Pappy's stay over night then drive to AL.
What's at Cloverdale, they shoot up there? :)
Shawn~
Kurt, I understand, never been to the Cloverdale Nationals, but have always heard it was a great event.
Would love to have ya one day, I personally don't think there's a better spot for an archery event than Tannehill State Park. I have heard that Cloverdale is also a beautiful place and I've been to Pappy's place, I know it's beautiful.
Tannehill Historical State Park, in it's own right, is an absolute perfect place. visit their website.
www.tannehill.org
Terry Harris
Talked to Gil and your on the calendar Terry.
Shawn~
Thanks Shawn, much appreciated.
Terry Harris
Shawn~
Shawn, I didn't know if you knew that Sherri, Gil's wife, had come in 2nd or 3rd on the Championship Shoot Down
BUT, she sure took the American Traditional Archer "Top Shot" award in that group of outstanding three shooters.
This year promises to be even bigger & better, with the Men & Women having their own Longbow & Recurve Shoot Downs. Twelve winners, 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winners in each with a total payout of $4,000.00 split between the winners.
Terry Harris
We be there God Willin. Gil and Sherry have a new camper so I think they will stay right there onsite. I will camp next to them prolly.
Should be good time to be sure.
Shawn~
Thanks again Shawn. BTW, while on the subject of the "Championship Shoot Down", let's not forget the 2nd annual Rhonda's "Luck of the Draw" shoot down.
Lat year, there were five men & women's names drawn that didn't qualify for the main Shoot Down. These names were drawn from a group, hence, Luck of the Draw, and the winner won a $100.00. The male winner had never shot in an archery event before in his life, he was certainly walking on cloud nine.
THIS YEAR is definitely different!! Again, there will be 5 names drawn from those that don't qualify, BUT, now there is a 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place winner from the 5. The 1st Place Winner will have their choice of a Bear Archery "Montana" longbow or a "Grizzly" recurve, retail at approximately $400.00, 2nd Place $175.00 and 3rd Place $75.00. Pretty cool, if I say so myself. I think it'll be exciting for those of you that get those new archers in our sport and that they may also have a chance of competing with their peer group as well.
Terry Harris
sounds like a plan. will have selfbow in hand.
Shawn~
Looking forward to shawn~
:archer2:
Well, I'm scheduled to get the Covid vaccine next week, so things are looking better that I can come this year. Due to having several conditions that tend to worsen the virus, I have laid low since last March, meaning I didn't go last year. I missed it a lot. I am looking forward to being able to shoot this year. Plus, I am having cataract surgery in a few days, which I hope will help me see better and maybe shoot better. That may not happen, but wishful thinking doesn't hurt. Surely, 2021 will be a better year than 2020, so let the party begin.
Come and knock me off boyz.
HH~
Loved last years T shirt.
Any thoughts Terry what your doing this year?
Shawn~
Haven't yet. One thing I'm thinking is going to a "One" color t-shirt, rather than 5 or 6 different colors. Makes it simpler. Your thoughts Smag?
Terry Harris
Terry... not so sure a single color T-shirt scheme is a good idea. You will sell a lot fewer shirts, I think. I have always bought two or three but probably won't buy more than one if there is no color choice. I would prefer three colors. Ever since I started attending the shoot, my regular daily casual wear is always a T-shirt from your shoot.
Point made Sam, 3 or 4 colors would be better I think.
Terry Harris
Few good colors be fine.
Shawn~
Be here before ya know it.
HH~
Looking forward to going this year
Great quote. Sun Tzu has a few that may apply to Archery as well.
Shawn~
Alright, color suggestions, keep in mind, my C.E.O. (Cute Executive Officer), Rhonda will make the final decision, LOL.
Terry Harrus
An off Red
OD type green
Cool Blue
Shawn~
I take a large OD Green
Can bow hunt early season in it.
Shawn~
Just don't forget us fat guys.
Or us salty leathery fella's. :goldtooth:
Shawn~
Gonna be a fun.
For T-shirt colors I like the off red, such as burgundy (just DON"T male it Alabama Crimson), a subdued green, not necessarily OD, black, middle shade grey. I may be one of the few who liked the tropical colors you had a few years ago.
Earth tone Brown may work as well.
Shawn~
:archer2: :shaka:
HH~
Thanks for the input guys.
Terry Harris
Terry, how do we go about getting a booth and/or sponsoring the event? We'd love to meet y'all out there and serve up some coffee!
Sound good.
Looking forward to Sweet Bama Springtime.
Shawn~
Jon, send me an email with your phone number, if you don't mind and we can talk about a space. I don't charge a fee for Vendors.
My email is archertw@bellsouth.net
Terry Harris
Come one, come all.
:goldtooth:
HH~
Got it on the calendar, hopefully we can make it this year !!!
You'll make it Ron. We did OK last year and we will do just fine this year. Matter of fact I think last year was the best HH I can remember. We all had a fine time and the group purty much all stayed for Sat $ Sundays events. Was a hoot, the womens shootdowns was really really good some great shooting. That was Outstanding.
Shawn~
:archer:
Smag~
Thanks Shawn. :archer2:
Terry Harris
Right on track Terry.
Shawn~ :wavey:
Get by this next cold spell and we be looking good clear thru Feb then clear sailing.
Last year was GOOD!
Shawn~
Thanks again Shawn, it'll be a great time.
Terry Harris
Going to bring a good stash of Whitetail back-strap marinated in Huli Huli and cut into kibab chunks for the fire. Be a good time.... Hope to have enough left over for steak and eggs next morning.
:shaka:
Shawn~
Sounds good Shawn, I might have to sneak a bite.
Terry Harris
Sure Terry, we bring enough for you if you like. You stay purty busy at the shoot, hard to nal you down during the Howard Hill.
:archer2:
Shawn~
Thanks Shawn.
Folks, camping at Tannehill is outstanding. Nearly unlimited primitive camping areas and approximately 300 sites with water and electricity.
Terry Harris
Water and electric and a sweet spot under the pines. Bows hanging from the rack a or branch. What's not to love about that?
Shawn~
Back up,
Terry how is the shoot downs going to work this year. Are you going to do them on Sat afternoo/evening??
Remember folks bring your chairs, coolers, camera's for the shoot downs in the back area at the Howard Hill. it's a goodun
:biglaugh:
Shawn~
ronw, look for me there. I would like to shoot with you again.
Ok Sam
Shawn, the Championship Shoot Downs will be at approximately 4PM on Saturday.
I think I've posted earlier that the Men & Women recurve and longbow shooters will no longer shoot combined. The Men & Women will have their own longbow shoot downs as well as the recurve shooters. $500 for 1st, $300 for 2nd and $200 for 3rd. A total of $4000 will be paid out for the winners. THEN, the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place of the Men's Longbow & the 1st, 2nd & 3d Place of the Men's Recurve will compete for the Men's "Top Shot Award", same goes for the Women. Should be very exciting.
Terry Harris
Yep, very nice. When are selfbows shooting down?
Shawn~
Shawn, I'm hoping you self bow shooters will now have a chance getting into the Shoot Down with the Longbow shooters. That's all I can afford, LOL.
Terry Harris
Should not be a issue. I made it into the last man standing in 2018 with selfbow to the last six guys against any kind bow. When they started moving targets out to 35yds however it got tough.
Shawn~
Shouldn't have that as an issue on the Shoot Down, go get em.
Terry Harris
Let's give a little more info on this year's "Championship Shoot Down". :archer:
First, the Howard Hill Classic has always been a Multi Round event. Your first round could be your highest or your very last round could be your highest to try and place in the HH Classic Awards.
You can shoot your main bow for competition and then shoot your other bows for fun, for one fee, OR, if you want to compete with your other bows, you would have to pay a fee to enter another Class.
NOW, with all that said, ONLY your first round qualifies you for the "Championship Shoot Down".
So, if you think your longbow will give you the best chance at a good first round score, use it. The same can be said if you think your recurve will. Let me also say again, there will be a separate Shoot Down for the Men's & Women's Longbow & Recurve shooters.
Four Shoot Downs, each 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winners will split $1000.00 for a total of a $4000.00 pay out for the "Championship Shoot Down".
For you men or women that shoot self bows, if your first round qualifies you, you will get to compete in the Longbow Shoot Down.
For those men that will compete in the Men's Senior or Men's Supper Senior divisions, even though you may use any bow you want, YOU MUST inform us at the Registration Table as to what bow you shoot on your first round. This way, we'll know if that round will qualify you and in what class you'll be in for the Shoot Down.
Whew!!! I hope this will make good sense for the "Championship Shoot Down". :archer2:
Terry Harris :goldtooth:
Sounds good Terry.
Shawn~
Folks, let's not forget about the 2nd "Rhonda's Luck of the Draw" shoot down.
This event last year was very cool.
For those archers just getting started or that just don't get to practice like those that really do, THIS COMPETITION IS FOR YOU.
SO TAKE YOUR BOW TO THE "Championship Shoot Down"!!!
We'll take the non qualifying shooters and put their names in a bucket, then draw FIVE names, of men & women.
We'll put each of the five on a different 5 target range and let them shoot 3 of the five targets.
There will be three winners. the 1st Place of each will win their choice of a Bear Archery "Montana Longbow" or "Grizzly Recurve". The 2nd Place will win $125.00 and the 3rd Place will win $75.00.
Oh, by the way, the man that won $100.00 last year, had never shot in a traditional archery competition before.
Terry Harris :clapper:
Great to see you and Rhonda yesterday Terry. See you soon on the shoot down line in Al. To bad weather did not workout better in Tenn this weekend. Its ugly out here today 20mph wind and rain.
Shawn~
Last year, the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners of the Championship Shoot Down, from both the Men & Women got to shoot for the American Traditional Archer's "Top Shot" award.
This year will now have the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners from the Men's & Women's Longbow & Recurve Shoot Downs. Six winners from the Men & Women's competition will be shooting ONE ARROW for this year's "Top Shot" award. This award stands 14 inches tall and 11 inches wide from wing tip to wing tip.:archer2:
Terry Harris[attachment=1,msg2954605]
Very nice award Terry.
Shawn~
I feel sure you'll be shooting in the Men's Longbow Shoot Down as well as you're shooting that self bow of yours, Shawn.
Terry Harris
That's the plan Terry although its very hard to run with glass bows as they are just a little more stable and predictable. I shoot Selfbows cuz they are that way. I get a little complacent shooting glass rigs. I did it from age 5-40yrs and loved it but it's not in my wheelhouse any more especially hunting.
:archer:
Shawn~
we were talking about the HH by the fire pit last nite.
Shawn~
:archer:
Shawn, I hope it was good talk with good anticipation.
Terry Harris
yep talkin about last years fun and our Ranger buddy who was with us who passed suddenly in Dec 2020. Should be a hoot this year with Gil and Sherry coming and a few others!
Shawn~
Yep, Gil & Sherri, great folks for sure.
Terry Harris
Might have missed it.But is there a Vendor list of who might be set up selling..Thanks
Grady, you haven't, I've yet to post them. There are usually plenty of Vendors here.
Big Jim's Bow Co., Bivouac Bows, Bear Archery, Acadian Woods, Byron Ferguson, just a a small few. I
I'll start putting together a list for ya.
Terry Harris
Thanks Buddy..I have been to one of your shoots and tent camp there and it was well worth the 6 hour trip, I was curious as im looking to buy another bow, but this time shoot it first,,Thanks for what you do, your a first class fella..Jerry
Good time of year for a nite under the pines.
HH~
The plaques for the Howard Hill Classic are pretty nice, if I do say so myself. :archer:
Terry Harris[attachment=1]
That Award is in my Bow Room Terry, or maybe 18's?
Shawn~
It is a fine plaque!
Shawn, I do believe that one is the one you won my friend.
You're right Possum Head, I think so too.
Terry Harris
This sure looks like a shoot I would like to go to some time. Sure a long way from Oregon though. Hopefully will have a little more time next year.
Bentley, that's no hill for a climber, COME ON DOWN!!!
Terry Harris
Come one come all. C Ya there.
Shawn~
:archer:
HH~
Hearing a lot of chatter about people getting out and trying to get back to normal with their family and friends. :campfire:
Let hope all the upcoming Trad events have outstanding turn outs this year. :clapper:
Terry Harris :archer2:
They are saying by May we be outta the woods. So, I would plan on a big shoot. Folks are chomping at the bit. To get out and let Liberty and Freedom ring Bow and Arra.
Shawn~
Let me bring up the CUBS Course again. :archer:[attachment=1]
The Cubs Course will be set up very close to the Registration Area and all in the shade.
Not as many targets as on the Main Course, but extremely cool targets for the Cubs.
The parents can takes their Cubs around as often as they want, and it IS the Cub's competitive course.
The idea behind this is for those that want to get their small kids out and be able to patiently let them have their own targets to shoot, and respectively not slowing others up on the Main Course.
Here's is what every registered Cub will receive.
Terry Harris
Thats great idea for the cubs Terry. Im sure I will go watch some this while there.
Shawn~
Some of our posse will be attending, and I'm hoping that includes my 9 year old son. Having a separate course for the Cub age kids is a great idea!
King, in case you might not know, the Cubs are 7 years old and younger, I will, however, have a Youth stake for your son. He'll get to shoot the Main Course, 30 RINEHEART, every target on the Main Course is different, HE'LL LOVE IT! :goldtooth:
Terry Harris
Well, I learned today that I must have back surgery soon. I was asked if I had anything particularly significant coming up. I told them we'll schedule the surgery after the Howard Hill shoot See you in June.
Terry, thanks for clarifying. Some places here have different categories, and some places Cubs run up to 10. Either way, I know it will be a blast.
Thanks King, sorry to hear about your upcoming surgery Sam, just be careful while you're here,
BTW, besides the Plaques, here's the Belt Buckles fo the 1st Place Adults as well. :clapper:
Terry Harris[attachment=1]
Getting a lot of calls, especially first timers, I think this year will be a banner year.
Terry Harris :shaka:
Putting together many items for this year's raffles. Many were donated for last year's HH Classic, BUT, because of the uncertainty of even having the shoot, I didn't have any raffles.
I'll be raffling off bows for the Boy Scout Camp as well as a Big Jim Longbow and CD Archery riser with Dryad Longbow limbs to go toward the Cubs Course.
Let me add a footnote about raising money for the Boy Scout Camp. NO....I don't like the direction the Boy Scouts have taken over the past few years. I try and raise money for the Camp, because I use a generous portion to place my course. The Committee over this Camp has never asked for a dime from me, but, I feel strongly about giving something back to improve the site, and have done so over the years.
Terry Harris
Byron Ferguson, will nt only be one of the Vendors here at the HH Classic, but for those that want some one on one instruction, he'll be having one of his outstanding Shooting Clinics. :archer2:
It will be held Saturday from 10 AM until 12 Noon. :archer:[attachment=1]
For details, you can PM me or visit my web site:
www.americantraditionalarcher.com
Terry Harris
Terry, I look forward to participating in the raffles, and think you're doing the right thing by fundraising for the BSA since the camp is used for the shoot.
That Byron Ferguson clinic is very tempting. Will have to check into that a little more!
King, I know others that have gone through Byron's clinic, came away feeling very good about what they learned.
Terry Harris
Looks very exciting. Look at that blue sky behind Byron!
Good times coming up.
Shawn~
I'm hoping ALL EVENTS, especially this year, have big, blue skies this year.
Terry Harris[attachment=1]
People, I've got a new Food Vendor coming out this year.
Food will be served Friday, Saturday through lunch & supper, and lunch through Sunday. Breakfast sandwiches on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Here's some of the menu:
Bar B Q sandwiches, hot dogs, old fashion hot dog, crinkle fries, nachos & cheese (ya can add pork), drinks, etc. For example, Bar B Q sandwich, (plenty of tender pork, I've had it) fries and drink, $10.00. (water, $1.00 less). Regular hot dogs, $2.00. Prices are very reasonable and the food is outstanding.
ALSO, there will be a Snow Cone stand as well.
Terry Harris
Here's the food Vendor's full menu, as I mentioned, the food is outstanding and the prices are very reasonable.
Terry Harris :bigsmyl:[attachment=1]
Oh Yeah, I remember those folks
Shawn~
Shawn, this isn't the same guy. The guy from last year has gone to $10.00, just for a Bar B Q sandwich! This is another guy, AND, will be there all three days, not just on Saturday.
Terry
For those that have their wives, sweetheart or kids, there is lots to do at Tannehill, when ya want to rest your fingers from flinging arrows.
The craft cabins will be open, pretty cool stuff going on there. There is also a train that goes from the main part of the Park to the bridge crossing over to Farley Field, where all the archery activities will be going on.[attachment=1]
Terry Harris
$10 pork sammiches huh? Wow. I remember those folks last year smelled good. Some got some food their in camp and said was tastey. Think we will see the return of the crowds this year. Folks chompin to get after it after the lockdown police had em all skeerd. With PSF at Buck Holler having a big crowd and Pappy had a great one day crowd in March. Prolly have a really good year Terry and with weather getting warm who knows record breaking maybe?
The big test will be the Classic and how big it goes? if it goes huge you can bet your gonna have a biggun on yer hands. We hope so
:archer2:
Shawn~
I hope so too Shawn. Yep, last year, although delicious, prices were high.
This year, Bar B Q sammich, fries and drink, for only $10.00 (and delicious as well).
Terry Harris
Here's the train, great for the kids.
Terry Harris[attachment=1]
Big time for everyone at the HH!
:shaka:
Shawn~
It certainly could be this year Shawn.
Terry Harris
[attachment=1] Here's the food Vendor's wagon, along with his snow cone wagon.
Y'all will enjoy this. :clapper:
Terry Harris
Here's a photo of the Tannehill General Store. You can get snacks, a few things for your camp, propane (if ya need it) ice, etc.
This is also where you'll check in if you're camping.[attachment=1] :campfire:
Terry Harris
BTW, if you get to the Park after hours, a Park Ranger can check you in, or you can go and check in the next morning.
Terry Harris
Just a friendly reminder everyone, I love dogs and for those that won't leave home without them, bring them.
BUT, you must keep them on a leash and clean up after them, ESPECIALLY, if you're going to the Vendors and on the course.
Terry Harris
Don't forget, right as you cross the bridge into Farley Field, we now have those campsites with water & elec., right on the creek bank.
Terry Harris[attachment=1][attachment=2]
Only EIGHT WEEKS from today!!!
Terry Harris
That's my Campsite Terry. Like to be across creek under the pines. Gettin Pumped. Gonna pull out the Super Pyramid and get ready!

Terry Harris
Here's a partial list of the Vendors:

Terry Harris
Folks, for 16 years, the Howard Hill Classic has been a place for the gathering of family, friends, Vendors, fellowship, fun and believe it or not, some OUTSTANDING TRADITIONAL ARCHERY COMPETITION!!
It won't be long now before the 17th year will be more of the same, with even much more extras.
Terry Harris
Getting calls and emails, just a little under two months out, promises to be a good event, IMO.
Terry Harris
Getting closer day by day.

Ron, I'm hoping you have so much fun, you'll be counting the days until next year, and I think you will.....welcome.
Terry Harris
Folks, last year we had no raffles because of the HH Classic being rescheduled due to COVID, I wasn't sure if we'd even have many shooters at all.
This year THERE WILL BE RAFFLES!!!
Heres a couple of items, a CD Archery Riser with Dryad Bows longbow limbs and one of Roy Hall's beautiful Hatchets. More to follow.
Terry Harris :clapper:
[attachment=1][attachment=2][attachment=3]
Bad back is not letting me practice as much as I need to, but I'm still looking forward to it. See you there.
Sam, wouldn't be the same without ya being here.
Terry Harris
Do we have to make reservations to camp on site ??
No ya don't Ron, are you RV or primitive camping?
Terry Harris
Ron, there's almost unlimited primitive camping, get here a little early so you can get close to the bathhouse. If you're RV camping, same goes for that as well.
Terry Harris
We will just be tenting, don't need much !!
You'll be good to go.
Terry Harris
Seem to be getting a lot of calls from 1st timers that are coming, getting exciting!!!
Terry Harris
Just a little less than six weeks away!!

Only FIVE WEEKS from tomorrow!!! :archer2:
Terry Harris
Folks, in just a few weeks, we will all get together for Family, Friendship and Fun, for the SEVENTEENTH Howard Hill Classic. :clapper:
Now, there are other great events that have come and gone so far this year. There are several more to come. :shaka:
In my opinion, there's no better place than Tannehill State Park to hold the Howard Hill Classic. As I've mentioned here before, historical sites in the Park to visit, many things to see and do for the entire family, when we take a break and let our fingers relax from flinging those arrows. :archer2:
I have had so many people from all around the country tell me that the Park property along with the Boy Scout Camp, where I use to put my course out, has some of the best all around terrain they've seen and enjoyed this great sport.
Get Ready, Get Out and JOIN US, for the 17th Howard Hill Classic, June 4th, 5th & 6th, 2021. :campfire:

Only THIRTY DAYS away now!!! :archer2:
Terry Harris
Bringing some new guys down and I recruited some new Bama folks to come as well. I see a good showing Terry. Be a hootnanny!
Shawn~
Thank you my friend, much appreciated.
Getting lots of calls from first timers that plan on coming here.
I'd like thank Pappy at Twin Oaks for letting me pass out my HH Classic flyers up at the Twin Oaks Classic. They had an outstanding crowd. No doubt the Twin Oaks guys know how to put on a tremendous event.
Terry Harris
FOUR WEEKS FROM TODAY!!! :shaka:
Terry Harris :archer: :campfire: :archer2:
I plan on an early start Friday morning. Tannehill is a peaceful place early morning. Hot coffee and stick bows is a winning hand!
So do you have to camp in a paid spot at the Tannehill campground? My crew was hoping to find a spot to hammock camp, but from the Tannehill rules, I don't see that being allowed.
Good morning James, I feel sure I've seen hammocks out there before in the primitive camp areas, BUT, I'm checking for you. Let me add, if you camp/sleep in the Park, tent, RV, your vehicle, even a blanket on the ground, the Park expects you to pay to camp. It is pretty well know, if you're there, you'll be using their facilities, bathrooms, bathhouses, etc. Tannehill Historical State Park gets NO FUNDING from the state of Alabama and it relies on Trade Days, special events, camping, pavilion rentals and even I pay to rent Farley Field for my event. I hope you understand. I wish I had my OWN property so folks wouldn't have to pay to camp, but if you've never been here, I firmly believe that once you see what the Park is like, you'll be glad you came. I'll let you know ASAP. Terry
Thanks, Terry. I certainly don't mind paying to camp, just trying to figure out logistics before our crew makes the 4+ hour drive! I am a planner.
-King
James, YES, you can hammock camp. As a matter of fact, 4 can camp as a camp site, so, splitting the cost will be dirt cheap, AND, if one of ya is 62, sign in for a senior discount of 15%.
Terry Harris
Ony TWENTY SIX days away!!!
Terry Harris
Thanks, Terry. Our group will range from 9-45, so not quite eligible for the senior discount! But believe me, when I get there I'll be taking full advantage of it at every opportunity! :biglaugh:
Glad you'll be making it down James.
Terry Harris
Ready for the big show..... :archer:
HH~
You and I as well Shawn, let's hope so my friend.
Terry Harris
Ok Buddy
C ya teal soon!
Shawn
Man, the stars are somewhat aligning where I might just finally be able to make this shoot!!!
Bisch
Bisch, you need to make it once, Rusty Horn and Corey Baily need somebody on their Level :biglaugh:. Not sure if Corey will make it though with his schedule.
Bisch, I agree, you make it once and I truly believe you'll have it on your calendar regularly.
Terry Harris
We see ya there Bisch. Follow yer nose to the grill of the Hedge burning deer backstrap you'll find a old Ranger with a selbow sittin there taking in the smells blowin thru the pines!
Shawn~
Shawn, am I invited, sounds pretty darn good.
Terry Harris
Only TWENTY TWO Days Away!!
Terry Harris
THREE WEEKS from today!!
Folks, the range will open and be ready for action at 6 AM on Friday, Saturday & Sunday.
On Friday and Saturday the last shooter can go out at 6 PM with and on Sunday, the last shooter can go out at 11 AM with score cards turned in no later than 1 PM.
Awards to be given out ASAP after the last card is turned in.
Terry Harris
Only TWENTY DAYS away folks!!!
Terry Harris
Were bringing taking the Last Train from Clarksville on Thursday. Got a crew headin yer way!
Shawn~
HH~
Won't be long now Shawn.
By the way, I sent ya a message.
Terry Harris
Getting ready! I booked a room today, so the ball is rolling. See you in a few weeks.
Getting excited myself Sam, and it's only EIGHTEEN DAYS away.
Terry Harris
Got my arrows made up for this years HH! Tommy and Kirk and the rest of you better be prepared, I added new self-alignment technology to them so they'll be in the 10 ring more often :biglaugh:
Change in plans for me and the wife, still coming but we decided to grab a hotel room instead of camping. I guess we are getting old .... lol !! But we will be there with bells on :campfire: :archer2:
Will your Self Alignment Clinic be on Friday or Saturday? I was gonna talk to Terry about the possibility of hosting a tie on nock clinic but was concerned about the magnitude of the crowd! 😂
Sure would be fun to shoot a round with my TG Bruthas!
Yes, Kirk once Tommy and you see this new Technology you'll be groveling for the secret. But I suppose Terry will ban it once reading this since it will give me an unfair advantage 😂
Oh no, I won't ban ya, I want to see them grovel myself.
Terry Harris
We decided to opt for a hotel room as well. This was a big plus for my son, because now he'll get to chill in the pool after a long day at the shoot! We're coming down Thursday and staying through Saturday afternoon.
Are ya kidding James, you are gonna miss the "Championship Shoot Down" as well as Rhonda's "Luck of the Draw" shoot out for those that don't qualify for the Championship. You'll miss more fun than "who'd a thought it" as my dad used to say. Never did know what that meant, but I thought it was too funny the way he said it.
Terry Harris
Yes sir the shoot downs are one of my favorite part of the weekend. You get to see elite level shooting under stress and the new "Luck of the Draw" puts those who may never reach the Championship a chance to experience that stress and feeling
I would love to catch the shoot down before we leave! I see that is starts at 4 PM...about how long does it last? Just trying to make plans since we've got a 4.5 hour drive home that evening.
James, I'd say a couple of hours at least for all of it, BUT, I've never had this many shoot downs by separating the longbows and recurves. I do, however, will have two sets of 5 targets to make things go faster.
Terry
Yep
Shoot when pressure is up. Thats where it's at. One bad arrow and yer done.
Gonna be a hoot. See you folks at the shoot down stake!
Hedge~
Looking forward to this one! I may even have my new Hill style bow in time to shoot it there.
Hope you do get it time Brandon, you'll be able to qualify and participate in the Men's Longbow Championship Shoot Down. :shaka:
Terry Harris
Weather is looking good next few weeks. Feels like late spring. Time for some arra shooting. . . . . :archer2:
Hedge~
Folks, please forgive the long winded post here, but I'd like to talk about the clubs that put these types of events on. They deserve credit by doing their very best to accommodate our traditional archery family that make the trip to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Planning and a lot of thought are put forth to make sure everyone has a great time. Many use their vacation time to do this and many of these don't even get to play during their own event, to make sure these event keep running smooth throughout the weekend.
Now, with that being said, the Howard Hill Classic isn't put on by a club. I started this event over 16 years ago and there is NO WAY I could have ever done this alone. Folks, at most I've had 5 to 7 good, excuse me, GREAT friends, that have helped me over the years.
We'll get the targets out in a day, then, there's the little extras. Trail flagging, numbering the targets, hangin banners, etc.
THEN, after a weekend of working the event, EVERYTHING must be taken down on Sunday afternoon and put in a trailer to wait until next year, because after all, we're able to put the Howard Hill Classic on at a beautiful Park and aren't able to leave all we've put out.
SO, this post is to say THANK YOU, to those have have been with me, year in and year out.
Thank you Scott & your wife Val, Gary, Mike, Johnny, Alen and others these guys recruit sometimes to lend a hand.
Last, but certainly not least, is my wife Rhonda. Without her SUPPORT and running the registration table ALL WEEKEND LONG, coordinating score cards, registrations , entering everything in the computer and all else going on, there would be NO HH Classic.
Again, Thank You, to those never tiring club members and to my wife and friends for providing what's needed for all of our archery family to enjoy. :clapper:
Terry Harris
Thanks Terry and Rhonda. Always a good time.
HH~
I agree Terry, it's never a one man show, and most of us never look behind the curtain to see how these event are run. If I wore a hat it is off to you and the crew :clapper:
Thanks guys.
Terry Harris
Yes, Terry one thing for sure is that you have really great folks helping with this event. "Thank you", just isn't adequate to express appreciation for all they do. You guys put on a great event.

Only ELEVEN DAYS AWAY!!!
Terry Harris
Let's remind y'all who will qualify for of Championship Shoot Down.
There will now be separate Shoot Downs for the Men's Recurve & Men's Longbow Divisions, the same goes for the Women.
The Top 30 Men, 15 Men recurve shooters & 15 Men longbow shooters, divided into the two groups for the shoot down.
The Top 20 Women will be divided the same way.
There will be brackets to set up the 1st round.
There will also be 5 Alternates for each of those classes, in case someone doesn't show up on time to start.
The shoot downs will go easy and quick.
The 1st round will have three shooters per group for the Men and two shooters per group for the Women.
For the Men, two of the three will be eliminated, leaving just one. That leaves FIVE for the final round determining the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winners.
For the Women, two shooters per group, one of the two will be eliminated, leaving one which will result in the remaining FIVE for the final round determining the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winers. :archer2:

Terry Harris
We'll be heading south one week from today! Really excited about getting the boys out for this trip. :archer:
Tough run with glass. It can be done with a clean round. Can you shoot in recurve as well and get in that shootdown?
Shawn
You can Shawn, BUT, it absolutely has to be your first round card turned in. Shoot your recurve 1st round then ware it out with your self bow.
Terry Harris
Ok, thats the plan then.
Shawn~
SEVEN DAYS AWAY FOLKS!!!
Terry Harris
Yep, hope to be the first shooter out! Mornings in those woods are peaceful as birds are coming alive. Looking forward to it Terry.
Yep, Tannehill is a most beautiful place and truly peaceful in the morning, I've spent many out there.
Terry Harris
Someone got her new Selfbow. Saw her put on a demo today with it. Was very impressive indeed. Will be very very hard to top what i saw.
Shawn~
Don't forget, I have some commercial range targets from Morrell. :archer2: [attachment=1,msg2964991]They cost well over $100 each not counting shipping.
I paid $50 plus shipping and I'm selling them for just the $50 I'm paying for them.
I got 8 and already 5 are spoken for. Let me know if you're interested, first one first serve.
Terry Harris

Looking forward to seeing ya Shawn.
Terry Harris
Hi Terry,
We're hoping to stop by Thursday evening when we get down that way. Will there be a practice course or anything to shoot?
Also, is there a trade blanket over the weekend, and if so when?
Looking forward to my first HH Classic!
Thanks,
King
Hi King, absolutely. the big Morrell Targets on the practice range. Being a State Park (plus, I don't have a bunch of extra targets) I don't have another fun range set up, nor really the time to do it unfortunately.
You are welcome to stop by, by the way, several of are getting together to go to a Bar B Q restaurant Thursday eventing, y'all are welcome to come along.
Terry
Counting down, FOUR DAYS to go Folks!!!
Terry Harris
Yep and looks like clouds will help keep things cool!

C Ya tomorrow afternoon Terry.
Shawn~
Great Shawn.
TWO DAYS AWAY FOLKS!!!
Just remember, if you're not camping in the Park and once you pay to get into the Park (discounts for Sr's) come by the registration table for a Park Pass and you won't have to pay again.
Terry Harris
It looks like we'll be traveling through storms today, but the weather for the weekend will be ideal. With the rain before the event, what's the recommended footwear? Should we plan on muck boots?
James, there is only one place that might need them, but easily avoided. I really don't think you'll need muck boots. Look forward to seeing ya.
Terry
Folks, the weather this weekend is looking fabulous, highs in the 80's, virtually no chance of rain Friday and Saturday then only in the 40% chances Sunday afternoon.
Come join us.
Terry Harris
Lookin forward to it Terry see ya first thing in the morning!
Leaving South Mississippi in about 45 minutes the F. R. O. G team plans to represent...uh...well at least Sniper (aka "Longball" to Terry) plans to :biglaugh:
Folks, y'all can't believe how much Rhonda & I are looking forward to this year's shoot. Be safe, arrive safe & stay safe while having a blast.
Terry Harris
I guess we don't get a T-shirt sneak peek 😳
Well, pretty much like before, BUT, with the 17th on it. Good colors to choose from.
Terry
Leaving Friday AM early to beat the Atlanta traffic. Should be there before noon. Looking forward to event, fun to be had !!
They are piling in already. Must be over 100 camped already. Sweet..... :clapper:
Shawn~
These southern boys is ready to shoot their toys! See y'all at sun up!
Day one was great, shot like a bum, but had fun !! :campfire:
Had a blast today shooting the course with Mr. Wayne from Buck Hollow, talking with the supreme leader of F.R.O.G. and shooting the breeze with Bear and Big Jim. Shot like crap, but that was no one's fault but my own.
Looking forward to tomorrow!
King
James,
It was good to meet you and members of your group, and I watched you're shooting skill and see potentially a internship with F. R. O. G in the future. But I must address how you address me in your post above. Please in the future when addressing the Supreme Leader and Captain of F. R. O. G it must be in sentence case (as in my example).
But don't get discouraged in my gentle rebuke, as Scout and Sniper still slip up to this day and use such unprofessional discourse as saying "Hey Cap" :banghead:
They rollin in Sat morning!
Good course, nothing closer then 15yds. Good challenging course, fun stuff.
Get ready for shootoffs in tuff conditions today.
Shawn~
Holy cow, my wife got in the shoot off as an alternate, got beat quickly but still got to shoot!!! Man if she would only practice...lol
Hate I couldn't stick around and shoot with you Ron. I had to leave shortly after noon yesterday.

I can only say that Scout and Sniper are fortunate to have such a patient, long-suffering Supreme Leader and Captain. Thank you for the compliments on my shooting...I will keep an eye out for amphibian targets to further hone my skills.
James, let me warn you, Captain often uses subtle tactics such as the compliment concerning your shooting skills to lure recruits into the regime. Once in, it's hard to escape as your torn between the thrill of the missions and the endless lambasting from leadership. Your earlier comments concerning his patience was nothing short of laughable. If you join our ranks there's a good chance you'll be asked to take my position as scout. And while it's a sure bet you'll do a better job let me warn it's a thankless position full of cutting remarks from leadership. Be certain that if you aren't proficient with a GPS and can lead Captain from the war zone back to camp through a maze of briars and sloughs then the job would best be declined.
Thanks Terry and team for another great shoot. Fine targets and setup and though I had to cut out early it ranks as one of my favorite Classics! :clapper:
It was a lot of fun but terribly exhausting. I have had some health issues and am just not in great shape. But it sure was good to get out and see people again. I didn't shoot very well, but I really enjoyed the course. Attendance seemed to be down a bit, though. This is one shoot I really recommend to any trad person, no matter what your experience level. Terry does a good job.
I'm glad you had a good time Sam, but there was more here than the last four years, not as much as several years ago, but way more than last year and the year before.
Terry
Thanks buddy. Sherry , Gil and I really like what you Rhonda and your boys do to make it all work. Thanks to Tannehill for hosting the Howard Hill.
Enjoyed helping run the mens and womens recurve shootdowns. Good times.
Shawn~
Just finished moving. Can't this year but you can bet I'll be there next year with a kid or two.
As Supreme Leader and Captain of F. R. O. G let me me address some issues and admonishments, but first
Terry and Rhonda,
I want to first let you know that I and Sniper or "Longball" (LB) have arrived safely back to the base and you can sleep easily knowing this. Although it was a chore to have to listen to Sniper or LB go on and on of his superior skills and talents. He comes off as self depreciating, but don't fall for it he's baiting you the unsuspecting to lather him with compliments. He a sly one!
But we are home nonetheless and your worried mind can be at ease :biglaugh:
Also please accept my compliments on the well run machine as usual, you (really Rhonda) kept it well organized and running without much ado. Please inform the crew I observed great chain of command organization and it resulted in mission success, job well done :clapper:
Now, as to the act of insurrection by Scout in his muntiness words above, he will be dealt with sternly but fairly.
I cannot allow breaking of rank and discouragement of future recruits!
James (Slowbowking), please let Scouts dribble fall to the wayside and realize these are the words of a desperate man attempting to save his job :goldtooth:
Got a lot of goings on over here from the HH Classic, WAY too much fun, LOL
I've started a thread thanking everyone who attended.
