Title: Short bow or short Ilf riser
Post by: ElederLyons on December 16, 2020, 09:23:46 PM
So i have a Bear Montana longbow and I like it but I would like to get something shorter. I was looking a a recurve or longbow that is 56 and under but I have just come across the VPA Vapor and it is a short ilf riser, I have wanted an ilf riser but was leaning more toward Hoyt satori or trad Tec titan that are longer risers. any thoughts on the topic would be great thanks.

I had a Morrison 13" Phoenix riser with some DAS longbow limbs that made it 56 inches. Great riser and good shooting limbs. The mass of the riser along with a quiver made it really stable for how short it was. I regret selling that bow but we all have a few of those haha I currently have a Satori 17" riser with medium limbs that make it 60 inches. It's a joy to shoot, smooth, quiet, and dead in the hand. You can't go wrong either way. But given the length of the satori you'll need shorter limbs to get it lower than 60" and might running into finger pinch. I'm not sure what your draw is though. You might be better off with a shorter riser like the VPA or Morrison if you want a short ilf rig and still retain the shoot-ability.

Keep in mind that with a short riser, say 15 inches and shorter, the sight window gets pretty small and can often block the shooter's sight picture if the bow is held/shot vertically.

I shoot a 13" VPA with Centaur limbs to make a 58" bow for my 26" draw.  Love the set up except the cold riser when it is in the teens.

For a 56" recurve it is hard to beat a Bear Cheyenne.... It gets no press, but it is the best "short bow" I have.... You didn't mention draw length, but a bow under 56"  starts  to  suck passed a 27" draw....

The tradtech 17" Titan II, with a set of short limbs will give you a 58" bow, and medium limbs a 60".... I've been shooting a 19" Titan III for 10 years+, and have nothing but good thing too say about it..... seriously, no negatives in ten years.....they are a well designed riser...also take a look at the 3Rivers Das risers too....

...personally, I would get the Cheyenne first, because it is just a really nicely designed bow.... And then the Titan II, because once you start down the ILF path, it's hard to turn back.....
.... and remember, it's never.... "which one?"..... it's "which one first"....
