Hey hope it's ok I'm starting this as we have a bunch of MO guys and then a pile that go hunt Kenny's too.
Post your hunt highlights and pics of anything here!
I got out this morning and an hour into the hunt I had a old mule headed doe with 2 fawns heading my way. I let the old doe and the smallest fawn pass then I shot the button buck. Double lung and didn't go 30 yds and lights out.

Way to go Tim!!
OH MAN ! thats gonna be good eating. congratts!
i have an old doe around my cabin, but il be lucky to get a shot at her.
Nicely done!!
I saw two Does this morning but too far out. Stalked a little but they ran in deeper and I had to head to work.
Tomorrow is another day, always fun no matter what. Congrats on meat in the fridge on the first day!!
Great job ,Tim !! I'm working a lot now but plan to take some time off later.
Wow! Thats starting things off on the right foot!
Congratulations
Congrats! For me, that's the kind of venison that's so good it doesn't get shared! I'll be hunting Kenny's the week after Thanksgiving! Be my first time hunting Missouri. I figure I better start learning the lay of the land there as me and the wife are planning to move to the Springfield area in a little over a year.
Congratulations! Maybe I'll get out this weekend.
Leaving for Kenny's Friday morning weather is looking great. Gary Swinton Springfield will be a little different then Linn county. lol
Congrats Tim. Way to start it off right. Good luck everyone
Didn't waste any time! 👍
Nice! I missed a doe opening afternoon, she ducked a bit and arrow brushed her back. Be back out Saturday morning.
Eric
Thanks boys. Wish I was in the woods instead of at work.....saw a lot of deer moving on my drive in and it was 46 degrees. I'll be back out this evening!
Good luck all.
Tim B
Going out this evening as the allergies have my head too clouded and heavy for early morning hunts. First year bow hunting so we will see how it goes.
That's great. Congratulations! Jawge
Big doe got a free pass at 15 yards a few minutes ago. She had a button buck and I didn't want to orphan him just yet.
Yup just got busted by a one year old and her momma from about 10 yards. Walked straight at the tree I was hiding behind. The little basket buck was 20-25 yards down the hill trying to figure out what all the commotion was. Momma had her back to me and that was the one I was working on but the baby was broadside and saw me through the notch in the tree.
Saturday and Sunday morning sit. Dense and green but high 40's for a couple hours. Drew a zip
First sit by the big lake brought on some action. Nice doe will provide and the farmer is happy as they are eating his beans bad.
Tim B

Racking them up sir!!! Congratulations again!
Congrats Tim B! Good looking doe. I had a big lone doe at 35 yards last night that gave me the slip and never came any closer. I'm going to help big bro this evening to process a buck he got the other night. I'll be back at it tomorrow evening after work though.
congratts! getting a good start on filling the freezer.
Sweet!!
Like....!
Way to go sir!
Got skunked on the deer yesterday evening. I had a flock of turkeys feed by at about 35 yards, but that's too far for me. I might try it again tomorrow evening, but it not I'll be back after them on Saturday.
First outing in morn, more of a scouting trip to see what I see. Not needing meat too much yet, so gonna be a bit selective. :bigsmyl:
Weather is gonna be prime, 45 degrees and a NW wind 5-10 :bigsmyl:

Great job Jake!!!
My week off turned into trying to get all the stuff done I hadn't had time to do all summer!
looks like a good shot, congratts!
Nice job jake! They like those beans!!
Tim B
Seen some small bucks and some turkeys have got the best of me here lately. The heat ain't helping. Got a few days off to chase them. Taking the boat up to the big lake tonight for a unannounced slip in to the Poison ivy stand....
Stay after them,
Tim B
Good luck Tim, I have a few days off too, but will prob have to work late in week when the good temps arrive. :archer2:
Hats off to Team Missouri for goods kills and nice pics. Our south Mississippi season opens this week.😁
I'm hoping this is a good spot tonight. I found this tree last night.
Them persimmon Danny?? Mine are loaded but aren't dropping yet...they gotta start any time!
I had good luck again this morning. A doe and 2 fawn came through...per usual I let the doe pass and shot the doe fawn.[attachment=1]
Yep these are persimmons dropping from that tree. It is loaded.
Nice job Tim!
Good job Tim!! Out this morn to a new stand . Saw a decent 8 at 60 and some does. Wind didn't work like hoped and a nanny picked me off and hunted me down . I refused to move so she blew and walked off. I went home ... lol
Good job, Tim.
mighty fine eating right there. congratts!
Rained all day yesterday so I sat the all day in my corn blind. No action in the morning so about 11 am I snuck 2 turkey decoys out in the field and did some calling to no avail. At 2pm there was a good break in the rain and a buck came sneaking over the hill but he didn't like the turkey decoys and left haha so I snuck back out and pulled the decoys. Lot of deer using the field just before dark....saw 13, but nothing close enough...fun day

Son!!! Nice one jake! Let's hear the story on him, and congrats man!
Tim B
ya, real nice, we need the story. congratts!
Don't know how much of a story I can come up with on this one, but here goes.
As hot as it was yesterday afternoon, I contemplated not even going hunting. I was pressed for time being that this was an after work hunt. I knew that I would really be pushing it if I tried to get set up where I had an encounter with a good buck last Sunday. So, I decided to check out an area closer to the field where I put a camera on Sunday. When I walked in I found a good set of tracks that I knew were fresh, because we just had rain. I decided to sneak up close to this big acre plus size patch of vines that I knew the deer liked to bed and feed in. I wanted to set up to watch trails running parallel to the patch and see in the patch too. I had a nice buck this same time last year that I watched feeding/bedding in that patch and I thought that maybe there could be another one in there this year since I killed the other buck last year.
So this is where going slow and being extremely quiet really paid off. I had my lone wolf assault and two sticks. I really took my time and stayed quiet because I knew that deer could be bedded close. I got all set up and was soaked from sweat of course. By that time it was about 4:30. A little after 5 I heard some rustling and look up to see this buck stand up out of his bed. He was about 60 yards away. He started to stretch and browse and angled away from me. I lost sight of him and sat back down, hoping that maybe he would come my way. It wasn't 5 minutes later and I heard some noise in the vines. I look up to see him trotting my way at 40 yards. So I grabbed my bow, stood up, and turned around since he would be coming past me on the back side of the tree. He had slowed to a walk by then at about 30 yards, and stopped for a few seconds. For some reason he decided to take off trotting again and came right up behind me. He locked up when he caught a slight whiff of me, but it was too late at that point.
At 3 yards, it was a pretty easy shot. At impact, he let out a deep grunt/roar and tore out of there. The shot looked absolutely perfect, but my arrow didn't pass thru. In fact, it looked like almost the whole arrow was sticking out of him when he ran off. But I knew it was from hitting that opposite shoulder because I could see his off side leg flopping. I heard him crash, but couldn't see it. I waited about 20 minutes and climbed down to check for blood. I hadn't walked 20 yards and I could see him laying up ahead. He made it approximately 60 yards. On inspection, my arrow had indeed hit the off side shoulder on impact and completely shattered it.
This is my first recurve buck and I couldn't be happier. Now that both of my statewide tags are filled, I have to wait for gun season before I can go after another buck. I also have my landowner tags that I can shoot another buck with after gun season if I don't kill one then. In the meantime, I have a pregnant wife that I will be serving as full time guide for to help her get a buck. Been a great start to the season, and it's only gonna get better.

Great job Jake!!
Outstanding Jake!
Congratulations jake! Beautiful buck there :clapper: :clapper:
Well done Jake
I had a experience with a real nice buck last night.... he came in just as the sun was setting inside of 20 yards. Problem was he was behind the stand, not in front. And the next problem was he looked up and saw me. Slightly quartering to me. Bow was in my hand and tension on the string. I just could not shoot at that angle..... maybe next time!
Good luck, shoot straight and God bless.
Rodd
Rodd, they almost always come in from the wrong direction for me. Wish they would study the play book better!! :biglaugh:
Next time....
Been there dun that Rodd.....
Got skunked last night and saw nothing
Saw some deer the night before last but the highlight was the fat skunk that came waddling under my stand at dark....it was funny he was so fat
Tim B
Fat skunk/ cold winter? Surely a weather statement in there somewhere... :biglaugh:
[attachment=1]
[attachment=2]
A couple pictures of him...
Ok guys, seeing how he saw me in my stand, tried to wind me and finally moved off, I went out today to find another tree to ambush him a little further down the trail where I first saw him.... no luck! My tree stand is in the best tree as far as cover goes. There's quite a bit of brush along the field edge and located a good spot for a ground sit.... not putting up a blind as I'm sure he'll notice that! I figure I'll let it rest a day or two, then ease back in there.
What's your opinion?
Good luck, shoot straight and God bless,
Rodd
If he didn't smell you for sure , I'd give him a day or 2 and get back on him...
cold and rainy anyways, wait till just after rain quits.
I went back after him tonight from the ground this time. I didn't see him, but I did see a nice 8 pt under my stand!!!! All part of it!
Good luck, shoot straight and God bless,
Rodd
Been getting exciting here. Saw a big wide 8 the night before last but much too far. Next night just little bucks. This morning 8 does/fawn ...didn't shoot any just had that bucky feeling but he never showed. Heading back out shortly....now is the time boys skip work or call in sick just stay after them ha good luck all
Tim B
That's a stud of a buck oldskool
Tim B
Haven't laid eyes on a good one yet, lots of little bucks moving where I
'm at...
Right off the bat this morning the beautiful 8 point my cousin missed the other day was angling up the ridge from the creek to my stand. 35 yards away he gets distracted by something down in the bottom and he goes behind me staying out of range....aagghhh.
Still a great morning to be out, saw 3 other small bucks. Be in same spot tomorrow morning, he seems to like that part of the farm.
I saw 6 different bucks yesterday before church.... no shots presented, none taken. Haven't seen the big one since that first night.... maybe tomorrow!
Keep after em guys! It's killing me not having a tag until gun season!
Good job Tim.
Looks like we are canceling our annual trip due to Covid concerns. Hate to take something up from here to there or visa versa. Most of the folks we are around there are 65yo and up. Many 70 plus. Hate to miss it but they are having a run of it in their area right now.
So we'll have to live vicariously through y'all.
I can understand that GCook.....
Saw first signs of the actual rut last night - chasing and running circles in hay field 30 min before dark.
Tim B
After 7 uneventful hours in stands yesterday , I skipped this morn . Sure nuff , bro who has been only a couple times so far , waded in on 4 bucks herding a doe this morn .
Gloom ,despair and agony on me ...
Next time you will get em Kenny.
The summer weather is killin us
Tim B
Deer are on their feet a bit more today up here. Soon...
Wellll....
Bro had a close encounter with a buck with a drop beam yesterday . He wanted me to sit that stand this morn but I talked him into going back for round 2 . I was across the creek bout a quarter mile west.
Had some does and a small buck just after daylight, but none closer than 40 yds.
About 7:50 I glance over left shoulder and holy crap , its the drop beam buck , about the last 9" of his right beam is straight down. Very cool buck!! :o
He comes off the beanfield into the brush I'm in right where the does exited earlier. Turns my way and marches right toward me.
At 15 yards he is quartering to me too much but will soon be in my good 90* broadside lane.
He goes behind the cover tree and I draw my bow, but he turns left and never comes out. :dunno:
Goes out in field on other side and I can't interest him with a grunt or two, he just looks and goes on.
Oh well, it was great while it lasted!! :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
My cousin Mike this morning at the farm. His first with his Black Widow PLX.
[attachment=1]
Congrats to your cousin, Eric.
Next time Kenny, next time..
Tell him congrats Eric!
Roy , next time I'll prob need him to turn left and he will go straight ahead! LOL
Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday are gonna be killer!! Big weather change for the better.
Good luck guys!!
Thursday is lookin good too! Saw 2 little ones this morning - maybe they will move better tonight
Tim B
hunting a management hunt where you have to take a doe before you can even think about shooting a buck,

Hey hey, good to see some on the ground. Keep it up!
Way to go guys.
Well done!
Way to go Bryant!

I had a big 8 trot behind my stand this afternoon at 3:30 grunting the hole way.... I think its game on!
Good luck, shoot straight and God bless,
Rodd
No wind this morn for the first two hours, unless you count puffs from various directions. I really dislike that and at times refuse to hunt a dead wind. Right now you got to be somewhere so I went to a stand between edge of beanfield and creek. Sure nuff a doe with an 8 following her came in and were nervous. So With the 8 being marginal on what I want, I just took pics..
20 minutes later the droptine showed up at 25 yds and I didn't shoot again with brush and him walking it just didn't add up for me.. He was bigger than I thought Saturday...
[attachment=1]
I went back to the same stsnd as last night's encounter... got to the stand about 1 hour before sun up, reach for my string to tie off the bow, hear something walking towards me, I freeze. Its the buck from the night before!!! He comes to about 10 yards, looks at me, then walks off. There was just enough moonlight to tell he was an impressive sized buck and impressive head gear as well!
Headed back to that tree in a few!
Good luck everyone!
i was about to freeze to death this morning, didnt feel that bad when i stepped outside to leave. i was about to climb down and head to the truck to warm up when a young doe showed up behind me. so i had to wait her out. 18 steps from tree.

Good shootin John! Man our peaceful mornings are over for a while....
Had some good hunts last few days passed a bunch trying to kill a big'un...loved every minute of it
Tim B
Well done folks.
Bucks are definitely out and about. Had a real good one yesterday at 45 yards but he worked away from me. Also had some others in range but not quite what I was looking for. This guy made it to 10 feet, but he got a free pass.
[attachment=1]
thats a nice one jake, i rattled in a couple 8s a little smaller than that. yesterday afternoon.

That's the smaller of the two that got a free pass. I didn't get a pic of the other one but he was a nice deer.
You must have some monsters Jake lettin them walk.....your in the right spot it seems! Stay after them boys.....
Tim B
i got to watch this big ten breed a doe today , he was with her all day.
i snuck in to a hundred yds. of them just after noon and burrowed in next to a big log to watch and hope he would move closer, never did!
several other smaller bucks around hoping and waiting. the big boy had to take a little cat nap afterwards. but stayed with her for round two.
i know where il be at tomorrow :goldtooth:
i was 20 yds of him two days ago when he was with another doe, and she got up and moved, so i moved in. she came back before i could get to the tree i had picked out and bedded down 15 yds. from me. and big boy was coming straight at me, and i was caught out in the open
https://youtu.be/qV439my5Cdw
We are still seeing a lot of does with their button buck fawns with them??? Usually the button bucks are all weaned by Halloween! Been a strange year for sure.
Good luck, shoot straight and God bless!
Rodd
im seeing bucks running together, 4-6 in a bunch . bachelor gangs!
Beautiful morning to be in the woods. I'm sitting here waiting on some turkeys that got close, but not close enough yesterday afternoon. Heard them on the roost, so hopefully they won't stand me up.
I agree jake afraid it's gonna get hot quick tho.....haven't even seen a deer yet.....
Tim B
Dang turkeys are hard to hit! I just whiffed on a hen at 15 yards. Luckily she was by herself. There is another group that hangs around here that can still come by this evening.
it was a nice morning, gonna be cold tomorrow morning.
What a great thread . :clapper:
No more turkeys ever showed. I'll be trying to call some song dogs in tomorrow morning.
Had 6 hens and a bobcat go by at about 35 yds this morning. Haven't seen a deer in the last several sits. Big woods and no crops
i seen plenty deer, had 4 does right under me for awhile. then as they moved off i heard something running.
i jerked my head around to the right.
and 2 does came flying by, a minute later after i hung my bow back up. here comes 5 bucks 2 real big ones and a nice one and a im not sure
what he was.
and a six pointer.
something i have never seen or heard.
the big buck was chasing the other big buck, like he wanted to kill him. they were all out running with all they had.
the big buck chasing the other was snorting not grunting, while im grabbing my bow trying to get turned to shoot one of them, any one! the only one to stop was the six pointer.
as i was letting the string down i turned to look at him and he was just standing there,
i thought not you!
those big bucks cleared the woods of all the deer.
i wonder if that buck ever caught the other :o
so after a little while i climbed down to take a walk and look around.
i found a monster 8 pointer( 20+ inches wide 12-13 inch tines) with a doe, but they were on private property, all i could do was watch. for a little while. helluva day in the woods!
finally learning where the big bucks are hiding out, when im down to the last few days of this hunt, wish i could start this month over again. knowing what i know now. i have hunted almost every day, over a mile in. im beat!
oh i had 2 gobblers walk about 20 yds from me this morning too. but they are not on the menu :biglaugh:
Turkeys are always on the menu. Out of a tree they are tough
30. You hunting around St Louis or down at your place
John, its a management hunt, in a st. louis county park. its loaded with deer. rubs on trees as big as my leg everywhere.
Arrow 30, are the draws for the management hunts open to non residents? Might give me a reason to visit my brother.
yes they are, i had to look it up.
Finally came together tonight for me. Got a young doe but it's the only good chance I've had this year.
good deal Dan, congratts!
Way to go danny!
It was chilly this morn w that wind....no deer seen
Tim B
no. 3 doe
the management hunt was great.
first year they ever opened st. louis county parks to archery hunts, they are supposed to add more parks to the list for next year.
and i lost my good hunting spot this year.
that i have been hunting since i was 20 years old, so i was lucky to get drawn for this hunt .
because its close to home and full of deer. now its back to reality and public hunting .

We are still in the hospital. Mom was discharged on Monday, but baby is still in the NICU. He had some breathing issues due to being premature, but it's getting sorted out. He's getting stronger every day. Hopefully we will get to go home soon. I know we're all ready to be at home together.
Sure is a handsome little fella.

Heading back out tonight - they should be on the move
Tim B
I'll be back on em tomorrow . My standard is gettin lower fast now .
Ahhh- the sweet smell of succ... er skunk this morn :biglaugh:
Last night I saw a few deer but the geese came into the field I set up in before. Now have to decide what to do tonight....decent buck came through 2 days ago at 3:30......so I could set up for him ....or set up in the field for geese and try to get my first decoying goose w the bow.....
Tim B
I'm going to get back out after them tonight. I have no standards. I haven't been out in quite a while after totaling my truck a month ago. I'm game for whatever comes by. Getting tired of this cold cloudy weather.
Neighbor invited me to hunt his turnip patch tonite. They have been tearin it up.
GOOD LUCK GUYS! aint much time left.
Saw 25 last nite at the turnip patch, but no decent shot offered!! Still cool to see that many deer on one sit...
25 is a lot! Heading to a staging area above a cut bean field the deer have been using. Just enjoying every minute of it

That was 3-4" of snow /ice alternating layers til a couple days back
Noisy to get around in , can't hunt near bedding at all !!
Congrats Kenny.
Congrats Kenny! Way to get it done late! Wish our season was still open here but looking forward to living in Missouri soon!
Well done Kenny! Congrats!
I will be taking my wife hunting this evening. Our son is doing well enough that we are okay with his grandma watching him now, so this will be our first outing together since he was born. I'd really like her to get a chance at a deer this evening since she didn't get to hunt very much this year. Time is winding down. Good luck to everybody else that is still hunting.
Thanks guys, I'm still goin, but bucks are losing antlers now so will prob be another doe if any.
Beautiful day to be in a tree, even if I am just a spectator. I think I enjoy this as much as if I had my bow in hand myself.
On the last hunt of this year I had 3 bucks come out together with about 5 minutes of legal shooting light left - I grunted and they ignored it as if to say "it's over this year".
Thanks to all who posted as I really enjoy this yearly thread and hearing what's going on in other parts of the state.
Feel free to keep posting here as small game and geese are still in season and pics are welcome.....I especially have enjoyed the doe pics
Tim B
I was able to get out 3 times this last week without any success but at least I tried. Saw a very nice buck last night couple hours after dark that I have never seen before and with 7 or 8 cameras out on my property don't have any pictures of him either. Where do they go and come from? I have to figure that out.

Got the goose decoys and flu-flu's out again tonight - and the geese are gonna be fashionably late I guess...
