Hey guys,
hope everyone is well and healthy .
The cabin will still be available this year. I talked to the owners and they are ok with using it even with the Covid crap.
The MDC finally raised the NR rates , from $225 to $265 . Been figuring that would come , judging from neighboring states. If you're a youngster tho the rate is $9.50... LOL
Deer population is good, have seen some good bucks but few pics of them. It's not quite as easy as when you could put mineral out. Also a full time job with long driving cuts into my free time for some reason... :biglaugh:
Oh there are still 2 hunts available....

Late hunts are as good as early, there is nearly no pressure during gun (me sometimes, and rarely the landowners nephew. He hasn't been here for 5 years) and the deer move in to escape guns.
I took a decent buck last year after all hunts were over on Jan. 2, the bigger one wouldn't cross the little ditch and stayed 30 yards out...
Thanks to all past and future hunters!!
Was going to ask if you had any good pics yet.

What's scaring those bucks Kenny?
They probably figure you're there !!
Between pond and big oak , you killed one right there! :goldtooth:
Midday pics, may be flies bugging them.
May be traffic on gravel too, I had a stand there one year but nobody sat it cause the road was visible about 150 yards away... :) So never put it back there again...
Learned elk huntin you don't always have to go to the back side of the area....
Pretty good bucks Kenny, looks good!
David
Thanks David ! Hope someone takes em home. Local farmers say we have too many . LOL
Some promising bucks...very nice...
Thanks for the pics, cant"t wait for Sept 19th. May see if I can come up a weekend before to get a better layout of the property if that is okay.
Nice ones Kenny!!

those pictures of running deer remind me of the ones that the conservation used to use on the deer hunting regulations booklet , (al agnew) i think was the artist.
what kind of camera is that?
great pictures.

HOLY COW.... I mean buck!!! That's a nice one Kenny!
Kenny, PM sent.
I go sit on lease during gun sometimes, last year on opening evening I had a similar buck but looked older and heavier body and rack with a doe at 35 yards for about 40 minutes holed up in a thick ditch.
When I first saw them a good 10 pt walked out of the side of ditch into an open field with the big boy following. I thought what the heck are they together for??? Then the big one went back in ditch so I got my binos out and picked the area apart, finally spotting a doe bedded. An aha moment, he was telling the 10 to get out!! How I got into the stand or they got into the thick I have no idea, tho I was very careful getting there, coming up the bottom of a ditch that intersected theirs.
The doe finally came and drank from the ditch 15 yards from me, as he watched her from the 35 yards. Then the wretched doe turned and angled away and he followed , passing me at about 30 walking. Too far for me to chance it...
So there may be another older one like this ... :dunno:
Nice Kenny...Great memories... would love to come back again sometime.... miss those days.
Hope you are doing well sir.
Terry , would be glad to have you !!
Really nice 10 pointer.
Thanks Kenny for the quick reply to my PM. Check for deposit is in the mail and we are looking forward to the hunt! I've followed the hunt stories here on tradgang in years past and now get to write my own.
Got some good bucks this year, hope some guys get to take one home.
FYI -- most states don't want deer heads that aren't cleaned , or whole deer anymore into their state due to CWD (think it's in most states anyway) so be prepared to cut them up and debone...
There is an empty freezer at cabin I think unless owners took it home, in that case I have a good sized one that should hold a deer...
Not sure any lockers will take deer either yet (some say no deer , some say maybe), since beef prices in stores are up, a lot of folks are buying a beef so the lockers are behind .
I love deer time of year. :bigsmyl:

6 weeks out, can't wait.

Great pics kenny. Keep em coming
Hi Kenny, I assume you are in Linn County, if so just a heads up on new regs for transportation - basically what you just said, bone out the meat and cape the head/clean off skull before leaving containment zone. Also have to telecheck before leaving the county (I think that's a new one). New regs on MO DOC site. My place is in Putnam Co so I keep an eye on this stuff too. Best of luck on the lease this year! That last buck is a keeper!
R
Ryan, Yep everybody should read the regs!! Its easy to miss things even when I read em!! LOL
Don't think I have had this guy on here yet...

Just a little freaky!!

Looks like ya got several sheriffs and one outlaw.
But in the last pic one of the sheriffs is keeping an eye on him.
That looks like freaky and a deputy.
Yep gotta keep an eye on freaky!! Hopin to get a pic of the judge!!
This is a hard life- 3 legs and mange ...
[attachment=1,msg2928526]
:wavey:
I got a letter from our local meat processor saying they won't do deer this year except boned out meat for sticks , summer sausage , or jerky.
This is because they are so behind , 400 beef behind!! I guess the meat shortage at stores and high price has folks buying steers at a huge rate? I don't buy any beef so no idea...
Sure be glad when this pandemic is over with.
More bucks , one more week and cameras are coming down. The bucks will be rubbing velvet off and most change locations . So I take cams down so their location won't be known ahead of hunting . Seems fair to me...

Some real whoppers Kenny. I will miss the photos but look forward to hunting stories from the lease.
Watched a good one last nite from the gravel, he stood still for a couple minutes at 200 yds and I did'nt have my good camera with me , dang it. Buuuuut when he left I think he went right past a trail cam I have so may have a pic.... :)
Nice looking herd.
Neighbor was mowing pasture by south place and may have seen the judge on the lease . He has seen a lot of big deer and said this one was BIG
Good looking deer Kenny! Hope you and your hunters get a crack at 'em!
Good luck, shoot straight and God bless,
Rodd
Thanks Rodd! Good luck to you too. It will be here before you know it... :bigsmyl:
