It's time for an update on the little log cabin. It is now moved on site and some of the log furniture moved in. I'm close to spending my first night

Good looking place! I know you will enjoy it.
Deep in the heart of the interior of Alaska, a man is judged by the size of his cabin,,,,,, if he builds a large modern house,,,,, heads shake as it looks so cold and hard to heat. But show us a small cabin with a fat bellied wood stove that will hold heat all night, and receive warm comfortable smiles,,,,,, the smaller the cabin and the fatter the stove, the better.
Ron, awesome place, if you ever need some yayhoo to come up and keep the cast iron cleaned, or even keep it hot and greasy, put me on the list,,,,,,,,,, Beautiful place and nice fish too,,,,,,,,,
Oh, MAN....That looks GREAT.

Shrewhaven 'South' rabbit camp.
Bryan, it's not going to take much to heat the cabin and there's plenty of down timber in the woods.
I remember as a kid visiting an old man that my dad knew. He lived in a small cabin and heated it with a cast iron wood stove. The top of the stove had two lids like a cook stove so you could cook on it. I found that same stove on line and ordered it. It was delivered a few days ago. Another bit of nostalgia for the cabin.

That's a neat little get away!
My grandpa built a cabin down in his woods, and had a little stove that looked identical.
What is the brand name of that stove?
love my little stove when it gets cold

Sweet little set up you have Ron, hope all is well with you. Will be looking forward to some fishing stories about the one that got away, and hopefully some you caught. As well as a few hunting stories from your new home away from home. I'm sure once that new stove is fired up and is casting a warm glow with a chill in the air and a small glass of bourban in hand you'll have plenty of stories to tell. Some of my best memories are from sitting back and listening to my Dad, and Grandpa in deer camp, hope you have many years to make memories at your new one.

Ron, you have the coolest stuff!
Great setup. have always had a soft spot for the log cabins.
Thanks for the conversation Ron. Great stuff.
It was a good visit Terry, we'll have to do that more often.
I spent a good amount of time on the cabin porch today as I told you there was a nice breeze.. My son spotted a dandy buck across the lake bedded down by a dead tree with just his head above the grass. I kicked myself for not having my Swarovski's with me. I'm going to keep my spotting scope out there for when we see him again
[attachment=1]
I took this with my phone zoomed out as far as it would go. The buck was bedded where the dead tree that's leaning to the left. He was only visible when he raised hir head above the grass. I thought I got him but he must have ducked back down.

Very nice Ron!
I spent my first night in the cabin last night. The glow of the kerosene lamps gave it an old timey atmosphere.
A thunder storm came through around midnight and the temperature must have dropped 20 degrees. I just pulled the buffalo robe over me and slept like a baby

Beautiful place , Beautiful cabin, Ron... you might need an elk horn for that place? would be an honor, going to be gone fishing for a few days, talk at ya when I get back
I'm back home from spending five days and nights at the cabin. The first night a thunderstorm went through. The sound of heavy rain on the roof was lulling. As the temperature cooled I pulled the buffalo robe up over my shoulders. The glow on the celling from the one kerosene lamp that I kept burning turned down very low added to the ambience of the little cabin.

I added more memorabilia on the walls and celling on this trip and I think I still have a little room left for more.

Thanks, Ron, for posting the cabin story. It is giving me lots of ideas for how to set up a get-away hunting/fishing property for my retirement.
If I may ask, what company is the vendor for your little cabin?
I got the idea of the Mod 94 above the door from the Yellowstone series, Rip the ranch foreman hung his lever gun like that
This unique table pine table with worm holes is where I'll be sitting in the morning having coffee when it's too cold to sit outside.

Ron, I heard you had visitors to your cabin this past week/weekend. Pappy posted pics he took when he was in MI for the Elm Hall shoot. Sure looks like a place you can relax and get away from it all when you want.
Yes I had company last weekend, Pappy and my hunting buddies from Shrew Haven

A PLACE
We need a place where we can go
A place like written by Henry Thoreau
So there to absorb the marrow of life
to leave behind all worry and strife
Me thinks this is the place for me
For there I will set my spirit free
that I may live out my remaining days
in peaceful bliss learning natures ways
If all them folks keep showin' up yer gonna need a bigger cabin.
"Lake LaClair" in front of the cabin is full of pan fish pike and bass.
The woods on the other side of the lake is my hunting grounds
[attachment=1,msg2928068]
I would be fishing every day that I am not hunting. It looks like you have a little bit of heaven on earth there, Ron.
No one fishes the lake but me so there's some really big gills pike and bass. A man could live off the fish in the lake and the critters in the woods.

I posted on this earlier... but it didn't 'take'...
Great Stuff Ron!!!.... I need to come visit again.
Beautiful place Ron. I figure that's about all that a guy could ever want. A peaceful, beautiful place to fish and hunt in peace and quiet.
Very happy for you Ron, and it's hard to beat fresh Gill's in the open air. :campfire:
This is the time of day I like to sit on the dock and fish. The fish seem to bite best when the lake is calm in the evening.

A little slice of Heaven, Ron.
I've come up with a name for the cabin. In honor of my wife Nancy who was my hunting partner for over 50 years and who I called Red Bird because of her red hair I'm naming the cabin "RedBirds Nest" I'm having a wooden plaque made to put on the front of the cabin.

Very beautiful place you have there Ron. Just seeing the pictures had a calming effect on my soul. Your poem and memories of "Miss Redbird" brought tears to my eyes...
