I have a question for those of you who have used a mouth atomizer to spray bows.
What kind of paint or dye do you use? I tried thinning down some tube oil paint to spray on a bamboo backed bow. I had the paint thinned down to a water consistency but it was too runny and didn't leave that spotted look that I have seen on some bows.

I don't know if oil based paint is the right stuff to use. I've use a mouth atomizer a few times and used either leather dye or Rit cloth dye in alcohol.
Thanks Pat. I wondered if paint would work. I'll get some leather dye.

Aniline Dye powder Alcohol Soluble
You can wipe it on and use the Atomizer with alcohol to make it spotted.
And use a small water color brush and cut all but 3 or 4 hairs off it to make the larger spots, dip in dye or Alcohol and touch the back of the bow and see what happens.

That's the look I'm after. Thanks.👍🏻
Dave.
Just to be sure, I assume that you scrape off the rind first.
Dave.
some people say sand or scrape and some say scrub it off with the alcohol .
You need to do some test pieces to learn different ways to do it.
This was my 1st one.
Mix is 1oz. powder to 1 Quart Alcohol
I use 1/4 cup Alcohol to 27 grains dye powder, that's more than enough
So 1oz. of several colors is all you need. ;)
J.E.Moser's Dye's
Thanks. I have plenty of scraps to practice on. Dye has been ordered and I pulled out some materials for a new bow.
