Title: 1+2+3+4 (very pic heavy)
Post by: Petrichor on May 20, 2020, 04:19:57 PM
A week ago I set the date with my kids to take them to Waddill wildlife refuge to shoot their first 3D targets. Every day since they would wake up asking if today was the day. For six days I told them no not yet. Then today happened and we were set on going rain or shine. My hardcore bunch did it in a drizzle. As for the title of this thread..... what happens when you add the following: 1 toelke chinook + 2 hours with dad + 3 maddog pups + 4 little kids... I'll give you the answer memories, hopefully they'll tell to their kids fireside long after I'm gone. "Teach a child in the way he/she should go and when they are old they shall not depart." I will upload video links in a bit. Here we go.

We hit the regular range with both bag and 3D targets to start. Then hit the first 6 targets of the 3D course.

More. And to answer the obvious question, yes I shot with baby on my back the entire time. All shot well. Jack (the 3 yo) hit the most targets and Huck (the red head) had the best bullseye of the day.

We continued through six targets and then had a break at a nearby gazebo.

Everyone had a carrot for a snack and we returned to the range.

God gave us wisdom in that scripture but what he left out is that in the tween years children tend to swerve around a bit.
Good times with the kiddos.  Kudos to you!

Continued on the range. Here's Huck's bull on the frog target. Dad ended the day showing the kids how it's done with a 35 yard bull on the bear target.

"Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court."

I remember those days well with 2 children and 5 grandchildren. What sticks in my mind most was looking for arrows. Make sure you have a good arrow scratcher as the age.

Thanks yall. They already want a return trip. Only being 20 minutes away is a huge plus. So stay tuned for more. If the virus has done anything it has increased the amount of time I have at home which is awesome.

99/100 fathers wouldn't do that alone.  I have to admit I probably wouldn't be able to do that alone.

Thanks yall!  Really means a lot. I hope to do another trip soon and perhaps venture a little bit further into the 3d course. Most fun part was watching their reactions when they hit the targets.... just priceless. Watching them with their own success and failures is something that really gives me pride. Coaching them through lifes good moments and low moments is an important skill I hope will last them a lifetime.

I will say managing 4 kids has its challenges but having kids while I'm young has really been a blessing. Again thanks for all the comments and I will say yalls reaction and encouragement has been a power house of support to continue to document their journey. More to come!

Our twelve year old granddaughter is spending a couple of weeks with us this summer.  I just showed her the pics of the kids as well as the videos.  She loved them as much as I did.  She brought her PSE Razorback Jr. and we have been shooting in the back yard and refining her technique.

GREAT JOB DAD!

When I was in my youth, I dreamed of accolades. I dreamed of stardom. I wanted to be famous and rich. Years later I would become the youth leader of a small up and coming church and the lead pastor pulled me aside one day and I'll never forget what he said. He said "you can be the best pastor in the world and lead the multitudes, but if you fail at home, you are a failure. "  This hit me hard and my priorities changed... I'm no longer in that position and my career has gone a completely different direction.  This lesson has rearranged my earlier dreams. Be famous in your own house. The world is harsh, not everyone is a success by the world's standards, but being famous at home is a far greater achievement in my book and wealth is a subjective term. Again thank you all for the kind words.
