Folks I've made the decision about having the Howard Hill Classic and with all due respect, I've made this "Thread" a DEBATE FREE article. Before the announcement about the Howard Hill Classic goes forward, I'm respectfully asking those individuals that want to offer their criticism, their judgment or any other negative comments, PLEASE DON'T.
I will do everything I can to do my part to make this event as safe as possible and hope anyone that wants to come, COME, but be responsible yourself. I someone doesn't feel comfortable coming, please don't, I certainly understand.
NOW, with much thought and discussing this with my wife and friends who help me, I have decided to reschedule the 16th Howard Hill Classic to the 2nd weekend in July, the 10th, 11th & 12th, 2020.
With the 1st weekend in June only three weeks away and the July dates eight weeks away, I'm hoping with warmer weather settling in for the next two months, this virus thing will be much better and people may feel more comfortable getting together.
The shoot will still be held at Tannehill State Park, here in McCalla, AL.
I'll be posting many more details and more information about the HH Classic, in further posts, but for right now, THE DECISION is to go forward with this year's Howard Hill Classic at this later date.
AGAIN, July 10th, 11th and 12th, 2020.
Terry Harris
Hope to see you in July.
Ok Terry
We be there bows in hand!
HH~
I hope to make it there for the first time.......
Would love to have ya here Ron.[attachment=1]
NOW, let's get into just a few of the details.
Because the time constraints have been so tight as well as the uncertainty, I didn't order the extra five targets I intended to put on the main course, so there will only be twenty five. The RINEHART Targets are still in outstanding shape and there are no two targets alike on the course. I also wasn't able to order the targets for the Cubs range, so our little ones will still have to shoot the main course as before, NEXT YEAR FOR SURE!!
This year, AND THIS YEAR ONLY, the first round only will count for score and y'all will be shooting for the "American Traditional Archer" Howard Hill Classic 1st Place bet buckle, SHOWN HERE. I again, because I wasn't sure if the shoot would go forward and even still not sure of the kind of turn out as in the past, I couldn't spend the money I normally spend on my Plaques. Especially this year with three more divisions added. A Girls Junior and Youth divisions as well as a Super Seniors division, 70 years and older. All divisions will qualify for a buckle.
I am reducing the rates this year and once your First, Competitive, Round is in, then you can shoot till your fingers hurt.
ALSO, if there are anywhere over 200 participants, THERE WILL BE THE "CHAMPIONSHIP SHOOT DOWN", FOR THE MEN'S & WOMEN'S DIVISION. 1st Place $300.00, 2nd Place $200.00 & 3rd Place $100.00.
Folks, that's enough info for now, don't want to give y'all BRAIN OVERLOAD, lol. :biglaugh: :archer2:
Terry Harris
By the way folks, several Vendors have already said they'll be here.
On Saturday, July 11th, we'll have "Porky's". OUTSTANDING Jumbo sandwiches, Brisket, Smoked Turkey, Pulled Pork and sides.
More to come folks.
Terry Harris
:goldtooth: :goldtooth:
HH~
Folks, I'll be adding more and more info about the event this year. I have already got a few Vendors that have said they'll be here, AND. not only will Byron Ferguson be setting up as a Vendor, but will be having one of his outstanding Shooting Clinics, on Saturday, July 11th. :archer2:
You can register anytime on Friday and Saturday morning. I'm not sure of the starting time on Saturday, but I would guess sometime between 10 AM & Noon. I'll pass along that information ASAP.
Terry Harris :clapper:[attachment=1]
Great to have the Champ on board.
HH~
Folks, I will take measures to help protect you on the range, and you all can take measures to protect yourselves as well.
As we all know, archers anchor WHERE, hands above the shoulders at either the corners of your mouth or eye.
SO, I will have a hand washing station right before each water cooler, encourage all of you to wash your hands before you touch the water spigot.
If possible, pull your own arrows, OR, have a family member do it. If those shooting are not related, possibly have one arrow puller.
NOW, may I recommend how to pull your arrows. Rather than place your hand against the target for bracing as the arrow is pulled, USE YOUR LEG OR HIP. DON'T PUSH OR PULL THE TARGET, bracing protects the integrity against making the rebar loose, holding the targets in place. COMMON SENSE, RIGHT??
I also encourage you all to bring your own hand sanitizer if possible.
I know July is a little warmer than the first of June, so Tannehill Park will be providing a couple of the Fan Misters so all can walk through for a refreshing cool mist.
Terry Harris
Wow
That's good of them to let you use those mist fans Terry.
HH~
Folks, as I stated earlier, I've had to eliminate doing some things I wanted to do this year, even t-shirts.
I had an idea, but was concerned myself as to how it would be received, so I asked a couple of good friends their opinions and got good advice.
I thought of a design and after listening to them and my gut feeling as well, I'm thinking of having a t-shirt made and give any and all profits over my cost to some national organization. The last thing I want to do is profit on what has caused so much pain in our country.
It wouldn't be a lot of money, but my philosophy has always been "a little bit of something's better than a lot of nothing".
Here is the design I was thinking of having on the back of the t-shirt.
The last thing I want to do is offend anyone, so I'm not doing this to make money, but to somehow help somewhere else.
SO, I'm asking for your opinion on this.
Terry Harris[attachment=1]
Thanks for safety considerations you have mentioned. I plan to come and will be very safety conscious since I am in the highly at risk group - just like a LOT of participants. I hope everyone else will be extremely cautious as well. A lot of very healthy people don't feel much threat from the disease, but I ask them to be especially thoughtful of us older guys and to carefully keep proper distance. I like the T-shirt drawing and will buy a couple. See you in July.
Here's the image that'll be on the front left breast on the t-shirt. Same color as the other image of course.
Terry Harris[attachment=1]
Maybe I missed it. Is there an entrance fee and ho km do we sign up??
Hi Dave, this year, the rates are reduced somewhat. You can shoot all weekend for $25.00 for a single rate, or $50.00 for family and $5.00 for each additional family member (immediate family only). Terry
Perfect how do I sign up. First timer here. How their restrictions on the type of bow you can use IE normally shoot a recurve.
Looking forward to this shoot!
Shirts look gud. I get mine and Kurts when i see you Terry. Pap can't come got to get ready for following week.
Wont be long now. Folks are holding shoots here now. Should see lots action over next few weeks.
HH~+
You are right Shawn, and Dave, you can register at the shoot. Normally the HH Classic is a multi-round shoot with the highest score over the course over the weekend counts for winning, could be your first or even your last round.
This year, because there has been so much uncertainty, I didn't order plaques but am giving an "American Traditional Archer" belt buckle shown on this thread, for 1st Place. SO, the first round only will count for score and the rest of your weekend can be shot over & over again, to get your shooting out of your system, LOL. I've reduced the shooting rates this year because of this.
NOW, if I have 200 or over shooters, I will have the "Championship Shoot Down", paying out $1200.00 between the Men & Women 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winners. Then those places of men & women will then shoot down for the "Top Shot Award" shown here. Terry Harris[attachment=1,msg2920568][attachment=2,msg2920568] :archer2:
Folks, next weekend would have been the 16th Howard Hill Classic. I truly feel rescheduling this event was the right thing to do and I am already getting tremendous feedback with lots of enthusiasm about coming in July.
There several great Vendors on board as well, so get ready to do some shopping for your archery needs.
You'll have plenty of time to visit these great Vendors. I'll be opening the Range at 6 AM on Friday, Saturday & Sunday. On Friday & Saturday the range will stay open all day with the last shooter being able to go out at 6 PM, and on Sunday, at 11 AM.
Folks, that's over 12 hours per day and 5 hours on Sunday. Y'all will be able to shoot till your fingers ache, bring liniment, LOL.
Terry Harris
up again.
Thanks Madre Man:
I'll start putting a Vendors list together.
Right now, Big Jim's Bow Co., Byron Ferguson (still putting a Shooting Clinic on Saturday), Acadian Woods Bows, Craig's Archery, Tom Rowan Traditional Archery, Thompson Traditional Archery, Bivouac Bows, and more to come folks.
Folks, now's the time for some ARCHERY SHOPPING!!
Terry Harris
Purty good list there Terry. Just a month away about.
HH~
Still hoping to come. Do you know the cost of Byron's seminar and how to register?
Hi Sam, if I'm not mistaken, it's $100.00 for four hours of personal instruction. He used to give a DVD with those that attended his seminars. Terry
Good to hear that Twin Oaks will be hosting the IBO Trad Worlds again this year, following the HH Classic. I have no doubt, it'll be a great event. :clapper:
Having to reschedule the HH Classic, I did make a call to Pappy before I made my decision, to see whether or not he thought my rescheduling my event the 2nd weekend of July would interfere with their event. So, with Pappy's blessing I went ahead and rescheduled for July 10, 11 & 12, 2020.
NOW, let me add again for those that shoot in the Men's & Women's RU Division in the IBO events, if you can schedule a visit to the HH Classic, you can get in plenty of good practice for the IBO Worlds, PLUS, you get a chance to win an "American Traditional Archer" belt buckle, shown here, like the won I showed earlier.
Terry Harris[attachment=1] :archer2:
Got a few guts coming from TN with me Terry. Looking forward to it!

TTT
Been walking and checking where the targets will be set up.
As I have always tried to do, set up a fun, yet challenging course FOR ALL, the experienced as well as the beginner archer.
The 16th Howard Hill Classic will kick off 4 weeks from tomorrow folks.
I'm hearing from lots of folks that seem to be really excited this event, although rescheduled, is being held.
Terry Harris
I really liked last year's set up. I'm sure this year will also be good.
I think you will Sam.
Folks, it is less than three weeks away, get ready to release some arrows, as well as, some tensions, LOL.
Terry Harris
Folks, less than three weeks away for the 16th Howard Hill Classic, looks like it's gonna be a good crowd.
By the way, let's add Art Vincent with Cedar Ridge Leather, to the Vendors list.
Terry Harris
Well folks. Dont save yer gas $ for ETAR just drive down to beautiful Alabama and Tannehill for the Howard Hill. Jewel of deep south Archery and home of the name sake.
Vendors get with Terry and get a spot quick not many events going to happen north of KY I'll wager. So, jump of the Howard Hill Train now!!
Hedge~
Thanks Shawn, much appreciated.
Folks, I've decided that rather than having hand washing stations at each cooler, getting the soap off as well as a muddy mess, I will have HAND SANITIZER spray at each cooler. Should be quicker and easier for your convenience.
Terry Harris
Folks, I'll have FIVE brand new Commercial Target Bags set up for a practice range.
For those interested, I'll be taking bids on getting them, CHEAP. If someone wants to put there name on them at the right price, THE BAG WILL BE YOURS.
Terry Harris
Folks, Phil Johnston, The Longbow Shop & Show, will be here with a few of his friends. He won't be setting up his complete "Shop", but will have a few bows to sell.
It's getting close folks.
Terry Harris
Texas Phil?
Think I've shot against him. Good guy.
HH~
TTT, Am i the only one getting excited :goldtooth: , bigjohn
You, big john, and lots of others from what I'm hearing.

The 70" HH Osage is shooting lites out.
HH~
Well folks, it's nearly upon us, the Rescheduled, 16th Howard Hill Classic. Just NINE DAYS AWAY!!
I must say that there has been great response, lot of people are ready to get out and fling some arrows, and also get to do some shopping with several great archery Vendors that will be here.
I ask again, please be responsible as you come and have a wonderful time.
Even though I will have hand sanitizer at each water station, if you have your own personal hand sanitizer, please bring it.
Terry Harris
We were planning to come to the shoot, but with the rise in cases of COVID and being a prime candidate we have decided to go pass this year. Next year We will try again !! Shoot a few tens for me.......
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY, FOLKS!!!
We are only SIX DAYS Away now for the 16th Howard Hill Classic.
Been checking the trails for the course, going out to Tannehill Historical State Park tomorrow for some preliminary preparations, before the Targets go up.
Terry Harris
Folks, don't forget, the "Championship Shoot Down" on Saturday afternoon, pays $300 for 1st Place ~ $200 for 2nd Place ~ $100 for 3rd Place, for the Men & Women Competitors.
Then, those Three Winners will shoot against each other for the Men's & Women's American Traditional Archer's "Top Shot" Award, shown earlier in this thread.
And, DON'T FORGET, for those that don't qualify for the "Championship Shoot Down", take your bow to the shoot down area. Rhonda has a pretty cool surprise she'll be unveiling this year.
Terry Harris
Folks, the week is here for the 16th Howard Hill Classic. Getting ready to put the targets out for some fun and yet, sometimes challenging shots.
See y'all soon.
Terry Harris
Planning on showing up early Friday. Terry, what time will registration table be open?
Starting at 6AM, all three days.
I want folks to shoot til their fingers hurt, LOL.
See ya here.
Terry Harris
Folks, tomorrow's the day we'll be kicking off the 16th Howard Hill Classic.
Already have campers setting up yesterday. Others as well as Vendors will be rolling in today and tomorrow.
Weather, although a little warm (low 90's) but typical for July, is looking pretty dang good. Heck, I remember when we had four days the 1st weekend in June where it topped 100 degrees ALL FOUR DAYS!
Tannehill is setting up a couple of Fan Misters so y'all can walk through and get a cool shot, LOL.
People are ready to get out folks, HERE at Tannehill Historical State Park, and then off to the IBO at Twin Oaks in Clarksville, TN.
Back to back weekends of FAMILY, FRIENDSHIP & FUN!!!
Terry Harris
The F. R. O. G team and all their glory will be arriving bright and early tomorrow morning!
Look us up for some fun and self deprecating jokes and some sorry shooting...not me of course but Scout and Sniper :biglaugh:
Look for Camp Hedge on the piney hill!
Shawn~
Another great Hill shoot come and gone but not forgotten. Great efforts by Terry Harris and team. Fine targets, great placement and ample supply of cold water! Though a little warm, the weather cooperated.
Great time Terry. Saturdays weather was great, really nice with that breeze. Another good Howard Hill. Thanks you , your wife and your team at Tannehill.
Shawn~
As already mentioned another great HH Classic! The F. R. O. G team showed up and represented :goldtooth: not sure what we represented but we We're there :biglaugh:
Thanks as always to Terry, Rhonda, and the crew that makes it all happen.
I don't believe most folks realize all the efforts that goes into running a course like the Classic.
We the participants only have to show up and there's a mile of targets and not just ragged out targets but brand new targets scatter all over a rock covered ridge and beautiful valleys.
Appreciate all that was done just so I could come and escape this current crazy time we're living it!
