Now and then will see them. Anyone shoot banana cut feathers, think they look cool. Wondering if I can take some shield back 5 inch and cut then into 4 inch bananas? Assume would need a burner.
I think you could do it with a chopper or a template and rotary cutter as well. I've seen some folks put tape on the feather to hold it together, then trace the desired shape and cut with a scissors.
as long as the desired height and length are there, it should work.
I went with 4 4" bananas last year. I may switch back to my 5 1/2 shields. I like the look of the shield better and the 4 feather configuration is crowded in my 3 arrow efa quiver.
I have a feather burner btw. worth every penny.
X2 streamguy. Plastic template and scissors.

As far as use.... Yea, I have used them (5") on some wood stuff and on some tapered carbon. They flew well enough to take deer. I will admit it was a heavy setup on both with three fletch. They flew darn good.
I have been interested in the lower profile shorter cuts that some folks have shown. Problem has been finding them already cut. I understand there is/are cutters out there that will cut a shorter (3-4") lower profile fletch. I need to find a good one and give it a try. That will mean cutting from full wing feather though. I have a set of custom made wood shafts fletched with lower 4" profile coming in the mail as we speak. I guess I'll see how they work.
Don't find a lot of difference. Mine shoot fine. 5.5" Banana.
Its hard to always find what you want. I cut my own using an Little Chopper. And you can splice them. Its pretty easy.
Not a Great photo I was shooting the quiver. :)

Years ago now I thought how great those banana cuts were. So I bought a lil chopper and went at it. Big 5" feathers red, looked real cool in my back quiver. But when I shot them I swore I had flu-flu arrows. Noisey and slow, boy was I disappointed. That was a learning curve. After I lower the cut and took some of the helical out of my jig they flew better.
When I bought my Vario chopper I got that basic shape but without all the noise. Still use it from time to time. I prefer regular old parabolic cut for hunting arrows. For just 3D and shooting whatever looks good.
The banana cut is my favorite. It's all I use. I use to use the big Maxi fletch but
I have cut mine down to 4 1/2" and shorter height. They still work as well with broadheads. I splice mine and burn them to shape. A burner is really handy as I can do any length or profile I want
I shoot banana cut feathers 5 1/2 inch long. They do make noise when shooting, but I think they look great. I make them out of full length feathers and a LIl chopper. I am now switching to 5 1/2 parabolic. Again I like the looks.....Gary
All I been making for a while are Shield Cut. 5". Here are some of last batch.
Ho yea those are Gateway feathers and Pre-Sealed shafts from Wapiti. I did the crown. A little to short.
