Title: insert size for Gold Tip traditional 500 shafts
Post by: R. Fletcher on March 30, 2020, 03:42:32 PM
I just ordered some of these shafts and want to install 50 gr. brass inserts.  I see the inner diameter is .246.  The inserts I have are .244.  Will these work or do I need to find some .246 inserts?

I don't know, it's hard to say if .002 difference would matter or not without trying it.  However, I'd like to draw your attention to the 50 gr. weights that are available to screw into the back of the regular GT inserts.  The inserts themselves weigh about 12 grains, so your total weight of insert plus weight would be about 62 gr., pretty close to what you want.  20 gr. weights are also available, and they can be stacked, so if you wanted something even closer to 50 grains overall, you could stack 2 20 gr. weights and a 12 gr. insert to get about 52 gr. overall weight.

Thanks.  I just ordered some of the screw in GT inserts in case the .244's I have won't work. I would think a two part epoxy would easily fill the .002 gap. Arrow components have gotten pricey.  Add in shipping and I can almost buy a decent bow for what it cost to make a set of arrows.
