With the kids at home due to the craziness going on, I have taken the liberty of changing the kids curriculum... regular archery sessions in the back yard, fishing, hunting, and game processing.
Some things that happened in the last two days of class:
Oldest brought home 17 fish from our little venture to the grocery store a.k.a. the creek. Filleting fish was taught after. The bait used (worms) was also harvested from the environment.
During archery session I discovered jack was trying to get in touch with his primitive roots... he earned the nick name primitive archer.
How to pitch a tent (which became a club house for the day).
Last lesson of the day was game cooking. All fish were consumed with baked veggies in a cast iron skillet.
Class was dismissed and the tired students went to bed satisfied and tired from a days work. The lessons of nature are valuable and good for the soul.
x2

That would be cupid's prehistoric cousin the primitive archer with authentic loin cloth.
That warms the soul in a time when we need it most.
I tried to shoot like that and neighbors called the cops, go figure.
:dunno:

Fortunately it is not forbidden in the city parish ordinances here.
That's the kind of classrooms all kids should be in!
Good on you :shaka:
Wow! What did y'all do at recess time?
Recess was full of ice cream.
Thanks for all replies. Kev pm sent.
Outstanding!!
It is so great to see some are still learning the true path. My friend tried taking his neighbor kid for an outing and the kid kept tripping over rocks and sticks cause he was concentrating on his smart phone the whole time.

Yikes. My kids can have a phone when they can drive. They have no devices or video games.
I hope the kids are having fun with their bino's :jumper: :jumper:
They ought to give you a apple!

As a matter of fact! We went on a nature walk during the prior days class and casted animal prints using dental stone.
More for elkken! Thanks again!!

You bet sir!
This is a great thread, so good to see some young folks learning about the natural world again. My old grand dad took me for walks and taught me about stuff like this all the time. Great memories. :clapper:
Last night when I got home from work. The three older kids, the dog, and I played cards in the tent we setup and spent the night in the backyard camping at home. Kids had a blast and we made it through the night in the tent without issues. Now that the home test has been past it's time to take these kids to some back country and perform the fire making skills we've been practicing.
Are you going to go out hunting for the Rougarou?

You know it!

The dude can shoot. He shoots and loads arrows faster than the 8 year old. . I taught him three under and he figured out and is shooting split on his own. 3 years old very little instruction and figured out split finger on his own......
Proud pa of 4. Baby inside with ma.
Kid after my own heart. :archer:
