Title: Simmons heads
Post by: craigski on February 26, 2020, 09:55:53 PM
I am a compound convert new to trad archery at least new to the idea of hunting with it seriously. I would love to hear opinions on heads and weight. Really like the idea of the larger cut with a smooth transition and decent penetration.

Lots of praise for both Zwicky Deltas and Simmons from Brother on this Gang 👍

Am quite fond of a Treeshark backed by a 100 gn insert for both deer and turkey.

Nearly cut this kitty in two. Thought I may have to check in two kitties.

Beautiful cat. My first trad kill was a chicken coop raiding  Fox when I was 13. Love the predator hunting. I actually have some deltas but recently switched bows due to learning that a 58" bow does not like to be drawn to 30.5". I just found a bear kodiak 60" 43pound at 28" clocked it at 49 pounds at my draw. Looking for suggestions for spine, insert, and tip weight. Just want a good whitetail setup. Thanks.

Nice bow.  Good luck with your set up.

Simmons makes some good heads.  I've only shot one pig with mine, around 100lbs, and it went nowhere.
Go to 3Rivers archery and use the spine calculator to help you configure an arrow set up.  It will get you un the ball park.

I shoot approx. same weight and draw 31in, I shoot 400 spine carbons with 125 gr heads and they fly great. Like wensel woodsman myself but have shot muzzy phantoms and bear razorheads to. Kills them dead as a hammer lol

you might do a search for a thread titled  "broad heads and the holes they leave" or something along those lines.

its picture heavy...should help answer your questions

I just ordered 6 today. One of the easiest heads to sharpen. I use a small round file then fine stick.
