Hey guys needing to buy another dz shafts as getting low..I've been shooting gold tip traditional shafts 500 spine out of my bows 47-51lbs. Haven't been able to talk to anyone that has shot the dark timbers hoping someone here. does the 500 spine dark.timber shoot pretty much like the gold tips? I like the price lot better for them.than the gold tips...
They shoot the same for me at least from the same bows. But I an'it the best shot in the group. I did add the 50 grain inserts to mine rather than use extra heavy field points. A word or two about these shafts. Like the info sheet says don't use anything stronger than DNA to clean the shafts. Acetone will take off the finish. I left the graphics but they are easy to remove.
Just got done dipping cresting, and fletching a half dozen 500's for my daughter, she hasn't shot them yet, but everything I have read on them, they seem to be very similar to the Goldtips. As far as the fit and finish everything seems very comparable.

Ive done extensive testing (okay for me that means I've played around) with all spines 800 through 500 and had no surprises with how they shot. The nice thing is they are pretty long compared to many other options--- don't be in a hurry to cut shafts down during the tuning process, because, as you probably know, carbon responds very quickly to length changes. Im a fan for sure--they are offered at reasonable prices and Big Jims service is second to none. The deer I shot with them this year didn't know the difference between them and a gold tip...
Big Jim did take a look at some 700s that I had in my quiver at Cloverdale and said "what did you do to my arrows?!". Of course on that batch I had used flo green wraps and flo pink feathers for a Bubbleyum motif...
the 400s are very similar to the goldtip 400s. mine ended up being about 1/4" longer than my goldtips.

I have not shot all of the spines, but extensive use of the 340's and 400's with a little use in the 500's. I just don't shoot bows that light to test the others and compare to past experiences.
The 340's, 400's and 500's shoot the same for me as did the GT's and Centershots. I'm sure the lighter spines will follow suit as well.
I just don't shoot the lighter bows as well.. it's all about the release.
