Title: Arrow and arrow set up of choice.
Post by: JAH518 on January 10, 2020, 02:55:37 PM
What is everyone shooting and do you shoot a different set up for 3D and hunting?

I'm currently shooting GT traditionals with a 3'' xx75 sleeve and 150 cutthroats up front for a 476gr hunting arrow. On the 3D course I also shoot GT traditionals but no sleeve and only 125 upfront for a 436gr 3D arrow. It seems to work ok as I don't see much differance in flight patterns out to 20yds. I do the xx75 sleeve to add a little durability and FOC to the hunting set up. I don't shoot the same for 3D because some complain the sleeved arrows are bad on targets.  :dunno:

I only have one setup - for hunting. If I shoot 3D, or anything else, it's always the same arrow. It changes every blue moon once in a while, when I stumble across something I think is better.

Right now, I'm shooting a full length, .400 spine, Widowmaker Smash shaft. I use the outsert that comes with the shafts, and 145/150gr field point/broadhead. Total arrow weight is 534gr.

I do have some wood arrows that I shoot at 3D shoots, just so I can shoot in more classes. I do not hunt with wood though. Those things are the biggest PITA of any arrows made!!!

I'm with Bisch. One set up for everything. No need to confuse my already confused brain.  :goldtooth:

I have multiple hunting setups with various arrow specs All are tuned and share the same point-on and site windows for my personal effective hunting range.

I drop approximately 12 pounds of draw weight for 3D. I have several 3D set-ups. They are all tuned horizontally but will tune the vertical mark to match the same point-as my hunting set-ups.

My site window from point-on and in is identical for both my hunting and 3D set-ups.

Have been shooting for 50 years and continue to loose many arrows yearly. A shoulder only has so many shots in it. Wish to protect it and continue to work on form during the off season and continue to enjoy the traditional way.

I shoot all different kinds of bows and carbon and wood arrows, generally a bit lighter for 3D.  Try to keep my arrow gpp at about 11-12, so most of my set ups shoot about the same regardless of bow weight or style.

I like the strategy of keeping everything the same. Think I'm gonna play around with some more set ups to find one to fit both.

I shoot the same setup for hunting and 3D. I use 3D as practice for hunting. Same longbow and good wood arrows coming in about 10-11 gr per #.

I thought about going with a hunting and a 3D arrow but reality set in and I only shoot 4 or 5 3d shoots a year and I hunt a lot more. my set up is Surewood shafts 60/65 29" with four 4" shied cut feathers and a 160 gr field point or a Grizzly Broadhead out of my Yellowstone Halfbreed 62"46@27.5.

I shoot the same arrows for everything. My arrows are 29" to BOP, are 11/32 shafts with 125 grain points. Once an accurate rig is developed, I see it as a waste of time to keep looking for other combinations. I know some thrive on tinkering with these things, but I'm just not that clever.

Thanks.
I just picked up a Widow that's 51@28 and will be trying that arrow next week. I'm hoping to be able to use 200 up front with the collar yet will see.
I hear those are very strong arrows!

For hunting, I'm shooting GT Trad .400, 30" L, 145 gr. out of a 47# Wes Wallace. For 3-D I'm shooting GT Trad .500, 30.5" L, 125 gr point out of a 43# Titan riser with BF Extreme limbs. There is hardly any difference in how both fly.

Currently

29.25" lodgepole (chundoo) 55-60 spined, three fletched with 4" shield feathers.  100gr. tips because the shafts are a little weak and I am not willing to go shorter.  These will work great for spring stump and 3D.

I will build another set 60-65 in a month or so and try to keep the same length and a heavier tip for more FOC,  we will see if that will be my hunting arrow or not.

Shoot Chundoo.......

I shoot the same arrows all the time (big game, small game, and practice - but I have no place to shoot 3D or to compete). I adjust the broad heads, small game points, and field points to be the same weight... however, I shoot both wood and aluminum.

My wood and aluminum arrows are the same length, basically the same weight, and basically the same spine - the variances are negligible and the difference in accuracy is not noticeable.

Carbon Express Heritage 250's, 29.5" with 125gr points, 100gr brass inserts, three 5" shield cut feathers, signature nocks, crest wraps

Same arrow for everything. Same setup for the last 14 years or so.
