Curious to know what y'all think?
Your set up.
I have used both. The original woodsman are a bit longer than the 250 gr elite. The elite are machined one piece so no messing around mounting them on an adapter. I mount the originals on 125 gr steel adapters. If you use low diameter shafts the mounting on the face of arrow is less critical. Some times I have trouble when mounting against the larger 2219 aluminum shaft using lighter aluminum adapters. I like the elites because they have solid blades, but the originals are cheaper and have worked just fine for me over the years. I use 2219 out of a 65 # recurve. Mike
Appreciate the info Mike!
Hope you're doing well sir.
I shoot VPA's now very similar but shot original woodsmans and elites for a few years. Never shot the glue ons but with the screw ins I had trouble getting the originals to spin good. The elites spin perfect so I preferred them and shot them successfully
Never shot the elites, but have shot the original glue-ons for several years. I mount them on various weight adaptors depending on the arrow weight I want. Never had any problem getting them to spin like a top.
I imagine the glue ons you can adjust for a good spin the originals that came with the screw in inserts were hit or miss maybe I got a few funky batches if that hasn't been everyone else's experience. Not talking big wobble or anything I'm pretty picky and like a tight spin. The elites always were perfect though
Never tried the elites as they didn't fit my equipment needs. I like glue-ons and steel adapters. I get them to spin like a top and they're easy to sharpen. I also think the glue-ons when assembled with steel adapters are stronger than the elites and can take more abuse.
I've killed a bunch of stuff with the originals... never the elites....
From bunnies to bison.
I like the design and the angle of attack of the originals better than the elites.
Boone: I can see how that could be an issue, especially if those that came with the adaptor already mounted were mounted with epoxy rather than a hot melt glue.
Yeah that was the case, they came pre installed with the aluminum adapters. I remember trying to heat up a head or 2 to remove or adjust the adapter and jacking it up. I can imagine using a steel adapter with a glue on head as mentioned would be a great setup for tuning and durability.
I was thinking about trying the elites, Kinda pricey. Toss up between them or the 175 gr VPA's. Anybody here tried both ? Any real difference between the two ?

I cannot comment on the woodsman, but the VPA's are a wonderful head. I switched to them last year

I've shot Woodsman, woodsman elite and VPA's. I prefer the VPA's for 175 grains or heavier. They are a great shape and non vented. Super durable. With either of the woodsman series, I never killed more than a couple animals with a single head. With the VPA, I've only destroyed a few, from missing and hitting rocks. Never busted one any other way. I've shot 11 critters with a single head before losing it
