Smokey is a Sponsor....he supports the site so we can stay live.

Female coon pee is the best non deer scent to make deer calm and feel secure.

For those of you that don't know much about scents it's maybe you should research it.... It's amazing what you can learn from trappers also.

Yep, I have a friend who is a trapper.  He's an excellent woodsman.  Interesting comment on female coon urine.

Most pay to play and back yard corn hunters don't know squat.

Scents have different uses. People will have much greater success using scents, and understanding what they are doing with it than going to Wally world and buying a bottle of tinks and randomly putting it out

Smokey's customer service is the BEST in the business. I've been a customer for many years.
When I had a question I'd call him on the phone. Never got old listening to him try to teach me over the phone.

I hope the last that commented guy got banned.  Captain Jerk should have been his name.  Nothing but a smarty pants all the time on this site.  Never contributed anything.

When I was about 12 years old we had a trapper who was acquainted with one of my cousins who wanted to trap fox on the farm.  He let me tag along from a distance.  He was doing dirt hole sets in sandy soil where fox were cruising through.  He wore rubber boots up over his knees and long rubber gloves.  His traps had all been boiled and dipped and could not be touched after that process except with rubber gloves.  Even though he had rubber boots he also used a tarp that he would kneel on and set his traps n the edge. He had a little prospectors sifting tray that he used to sift sand carefully over the traps.  He was meticulous about not leaving sign or scent.  He trapped a few fox and it was interesting to see his process and care.  Today we leave the fox alone to eat the mice that can damage the bark of little fruit trees under the snow, but back in the early 70's when trapping was still in its prime it was a cool thing to watch.

The Smokey orbital gland lure works on the scent wick ropes as described by wensels.

I've heard of coon scent as a cover scent never as a calming scent. Wonder how they figured that out.

From what I understand Gilbert, female coons wont put up with anything....so is deer smell where a female coon recently walked they figure its safe....

Which has nothing to do if they actually wind YOU personally.  :campfire:

I use urines all the time to "calm" animals near my sets. Trapping. When I started bowhunting in the early 70s EVERYBODY used some kind of deer lure - they dragged deer pee soaked rags walking in and a bunch of other stuff. Lures are less popular now with the bait and food plot expansion 90s through now - but for a decent woodsman I think good lures have their place. Smokeys and James Valley are legit - I'd say most stuff over the counter is snake oil - but good stuff - used correctly - with a plan - WILL work. But answer to how they figured that out - It was trappers who figured it out. Urine has a calming effect on most animals, I've seen enough results to prove it to me.
Good Hunting<><
