Title: Heavy footed shafts, outserts for Easton FMJ Dangerous Game 250 spine
Post by: Geoff Anderson on December 29, 2019, 03:31:53 AM
Hi Gang, I have gone up a notch in bow weight and I am wondering if you have had any experience in putting a alloy shaft sleeve over over Easton FMJ DG shafts? Thinking I may need to start at 6" outsert/sleeve to try and stiffen the bare shafts.
I am running a 87@28" longbow and I draw 29. Shafts cut down to 30" with 150 total point and insert but I am still getting a weak bare shaft reading.

I usually have no dramas with bare shaft tuning but I am at the stiffer end of the arrow spine range and still need it stiffer. Just seeing if anyone has had much experience with using a thicker alloy shaft to sleeve over to stiffen spine.

Thank you in advance gang.

I footed 250 axis with gold tip ballistic collars (the one for .300  spines shafts if I remember well) for a water buffalo hunt
Finished arrow was in the 900+ gr and basically I couldn't destroy any. [attachment=1][attachment=2][attachment=3]

If your longbow window isn't cut past center you might have a false weak reading with your set up and a better result with a heavier point. These axis/fmj shaft using the HIT insert that already shortens the flexible part of the shaft are really stiff.

Thanks for taking the time to reply HH, I have tried with the 100grain brass insert with 150 and 200 grain points full length 250 FMJ shafts and get a weak reading.

Back to more experimenting.
