Been using all climbers and stands for many years, thought I had most of it figured out, lol.
In my fleet of stands, my LW sit n climb is getting more use lately now.
On the seat section, the left and right knobs to open the stand up are getting tweaky and don't slide well at all in that channel.
It's gotten so bad that it takes a fair bit of wiggling, pressure, etc to slide back and forth to open and close that section.
That translates into potential noise during setup.
I was on the LW site today looking at parts and they sell the knobs and hardware, and it mentions
"Replacement knob for platform leveling adjustment on all hang-on stands or climbers. Includes hardware."
Here's my question: does anyone tighten that knob up other than fully open or fully closed? Is that knob meant to be tightened along its route as a seat leveling adjustment method if needed?
Thanks.. Merry Christmas to all !
I think what they mean is that once you get to the height you are going to sit, if you decide that the seat isn't as level as you would like, you can release tension with the knob and either pull more of the strap out or stuff more in and then re-tighten the knob. At least that is what I used to do with mine. For a base, I swapped out the heavy Lone Wolf for a Timbertall (no longer made) base. That had a wheel on it that you could operate with your foot and level the stand once you got to your desired height.
Ive only tightened mine at the further extreems of travel. Id be worried that if you tightened them in between you may have them slide w your weight at an inopportune time and create a falling risk. I no longer fold my stand up--- it comes off the tree, packs faster, and carries well in the ready position--- i still have to check and retighten those knobs as the routinely work loose.
I have replaced the nylon washer without replacing the entire knob hardware. A little tricky to do but it will get the slide working better. I use the hand climber but I believe the slides on the platform are the same. Good luck.
Thanks guys...
@rifleman I agree with you...either full in or out, otherwise potential slippage. I love the fold flat packing, but these days I don't go far from the boat so I may leave both sections open and save some time and noise, etc.
@ALDO I may have to replace that nylon washer.
I replaced the bolts on my climbers with regular nuts and bolts.... I never folded them up...

Glad I'm not the only one with that problem. Thinking it's more of a design issue.
