Title: bow style changes for me soon
Post by: bsv on December 14, 2019, 01:44:36 PM
I've been tossing this around for a while now,Been shooting ASL's for 5-6 years now and need a change. I am going to venture into the R/D world, maybe hybrid or extreme r/d. so I will be listing some bows soon. but I will saving my favorite ASL, My Dave Johnson, I guess I just got bored with my bows and need a change.Anyone else done this all at once change or gradual change?  Burt

The last 4 years I have been shooting hydrid and rd longbows. I started with recurves and now I'm back on them since two weeks ago. Had a pretty disappointing experience with a custom longbow (as much as I'll say on the matter). I guess it's the aesthetics for me. I just find recurves more beautiful. I shoot longbows slightly better but not enough to matter.

I do that too, had all the best custom recurves for a years, them RFDF longbows for about 5 years. Then some heavy riser BW recurves for 5 years. Then 50s style for a couple years, then back to longbows and I thought that was the end...but I got a wild hair 3 weeks ago and purchased a new factory bow Bear Super Kodiak and decided I'm going to use recurves next season. I plan to order a BW PTF next month.

I have three bows, each a different style:

Modern recurve- Bear Super Kodiak.
50's style recurve- Mahaska
R/D longbow- Mahaska

They are all in the 40-45 pound weight, so a change in point weight allows most of my arrows to work for any of the three bows.

The only other bow I'd consider adding to the collection would be an ASL with string follow. Don't see too many out there, so not sure that will happen!

So to answer your question, yes I switch out bow styles, sometimes a couple times a weekend.

As I get older, I've eliminated redundancy in my bows (and other weapons), and narrowed it down to my favorites.

Let's see, today I shot two different recurves. Last week I shot one round with my R/D LB then another with my Bear SK. All the bows like my new Dark Timber arrows so at realistic or hunting ranges, say to 30 yards I am golden.
Archery has to be fun for me. That means different bows, different arrows, different shooting venues. My only limit to "change" is my pocket book!

I shot recurved off and on since 1965.  About 7 years ago I decided to try hybrid longbows.  I didn't think it was going ever work as well as recurves.  But, one day I got rid of my recurves and forced myself to really dedicate myself.  Well, then I decided to buy another Blacktail recurve. Guess what? I couldn't shoot it as well as my Stickflinger.  So I guess now I am a dedicated longbow shooter.  Really, I have to commit to shooting one or the other consistently, I guess.
