Title: Noisy
Post by: Ronnie Newell on December 12, 2019, 04:34:17 PM
I don't suppose anyone on here has a secret way to quieten aluminum arrows? They shoot really well with all my bows but they are at least twice as loud as carbons.

I used some cord it made the arrow heavier and pretty quiet

I been shooting aluminum for almost 60 years and their "noise" has never been a problem.

What kind noise are you talking about? Noise in flight, or noise when you draw it back?

No Jerry, it's when it leaves the bow. I d think it was a bad nock point and slapping the bow if my carbons weren't so quite.

Charlie I've been shooting them ever since I knew there were such things. I'm sure it's been more than just 60years but don't remember for sure. But I have always thought they were louder than wood, glass or carbon. Maybe my imagination...  BTW I hope you're up and around. If not hope so soon

Thanks for the thoughtful words my friend.
I'd think that noise would be caused by either brace height or spine issues.

I shoot Aluminum also but don't notice any noise because I use seal skin as a rest or make my own moleskin carpet rests and some of my bows even have a feather rest on them. I am assuming you may be referring to the draw and possibly hearing the arrow sort of "Chatter" when drawing?
Have you tried waxing the shaft with anything to see if that may help if it is only when you draw?
Also what are you using as a strike plate as well cause that may be something to look into also.

Now as far as "If" you are hearing it when you release I am wondering if you are using one or two nocks  cause I had a bow that seemed to have a noise when I released and I made another tie on nock to put under my arrow nock and it cured that issue and I since then do this to all my strings I make cause I shoot split finger.

Thanks for the waxing idea Keefer. That sounds like something that should help. Ill try it.
As far as the other, I've been string walking for the last few yrs (since I got old and my vision sucks) and have double nocking pnts. plus ones for 20, 30 and 40 yds. Thing is though my carbon arrows are really quite. I'm gonna coat one with string wax and see if that helps. Thanks again

Are your nocks loose enough? I sand my nocks but found I had to loosen them even more to quiet a new bow. I shoot wood, and the noise seemed to be coming from the bow rather than the arrow. But it's an easy thing to try.

Ron,
I meant to say waxing with something like car wax in spray bottle or a paste style wax like Johnson floor wax maybe. Something that hasn't much smell to it possibly. May just help with the bees wax if you can rub it on and make it hot then buff or polish .
