Last night at deer camp I took a nasty fall. I was just walking back in the dark from the outhouse and tripped over the guy lines from one of the tents. I fell HARD! At first, I thought I might be seriously hurt, but it turns out that my rib cage is very sore but nothing is broken. At this age, things just hurt a lot worse than they did not so many years ago. As we say down South, "Now this ain't no lie, alcohol was NOT a factor".
The moral of this story is BE CAREFUL all the time. Carrying a flashlight ain't a bad idea, either. Seriously, there is no such thing as being overly safety minded. We have already read of several of our TG friends who have had injuries this year. Deer camp is supposed to be all fun without bad experiences, so watch out. The one good thing is that I was still able to watch the rest of the LSU/Alabama game. Since I am an Auburn grad, you can imagine how I felt about the outcome.
Glad you're okay Sam. Had a ladder kick out from under me the other day trying to install a lift motor. Landed on the roof framing. Bruised ribs and bruised bicep but naught serious.
It happens quick.

Slipped climbing into a tree few years ago, lucky I landed on my head! Really my leg could caught and I pivoted and dropped about six-seven feet and landed square on top of my head. Didn't even knock my waxed cotton hat off. Luck for sure. Pay attention all the time. Doesn't take but a split second for things to go south.
Glad you're not hurt Sam. Hope to see you at the TBOF shoot in March. FYI... I'm on the Northern Mist list for a new bow
Glad you ain't broke up Bro
Injuries always suck, but it hurts your body and your pride when you're doing something minor like that and get hurt, which is what usually happened to me. Hope you're back to 100% soon.
Glad your not broken......
Be careful. It's a jungle out there.
Hope you heal up fast Sam!!!!

grace isn't one of my strong suits either ...yep age hurts :biglaugh: heal fast !
There were some trees that fell in a storm that blocked the normal deer trails out of the hollow and up to my place. I headed down there on my four wheeler with a chainsaw to open up the trails again so i could start seeing deer again.
I stepped off the four wheeler, took one step down the hill, tripped over a log and fell forward. I took a hard step catching myself and proceed to cut away the treetops, no pain or discomfort at all.
I watched the bama game, got up to fix supper and noticed the left ankle was swollen and difficult to walk on. Here it is Monday and I am still limping around the house. I suspect this will get better in a few days and I will get back up to speed. I am 72 and break easier than I did several years ago, it surprises me how easily I can strain something now with the slightest fall or bump.
It's a good idea to flag all of the guy lines in camp so they are a bit more easy to see. Tripping over guy lines is pretty common, so tying a bit of surveyor's tape on each of them can make them more visible and make accidents less likely. Glad you are OK Sam -- it could have been a lot worse, as I am sure you know.

Great idea and I'll add to it...a strip of reflective tape at the base of the guy line will light up like a flare when hit with a flashlight at night.
Take care San, I am glad you are OK
Sam, hope you heal up quick and get back at it!
Thanks for the reminder, sometimes during a routine activity we just don't consider safety important
