I hope these two are out kicking butt.... They've been my heroes since my twenties..... I use to watch Barry before every opening season in the videos Oct 1, Oct 2, High Noon Bucks ...got me reved up....
Then in 2003 when we started Tradgang they showed up....and it floored me. My heros were posting on my site!!!
I sure hope they are out hunting as usual this time of year.....and hope they post soon!!!!
I am sure they are curing some big ones after the dandy Brian Wessel has taken they can be lesser. Lol
Looking forward to it, met them at PBS Banquet in San Antonio TX. Had dinner with them.
I'll agree w that. I've watched those videos as they are still my favorites. Best part is their mannerisms.
I met them years back at Harrisburg I believe. Forgive me for being foggy on that. Some medical issues cause missing parts in my memory but what I remember I remember clearly.
Now I'm not a big celebrity guy but my buddy wanted to wait on line to meet em.
I walked up started w Barry telling him he looked much better on video. Of course a joke but he fired right back. We went tit for tat a bit. He was quick and personable. Not many big shots I'd share a camp with. The Wensel's being def exceptions to that. I bet I'd even stay up late to listen.
Many things they say even when not actually trying to teach offer words of wisdom. Hope they're both having a great seasons and hope you all are as well
Barry has been my hero since "Bowhunting October Whitetails". Especially that ending shot on a running deer... :o
Great to know we can read their words of wisdom here on TG.
I remember back in the early 70's when Bowhunter magazine started. It wasn't available in Canada ,so I use to drive across the border to get it. Gene and Barry had some excellent hunting stories in there ,along with Fred Asbell ,true pioneers for Trad bow hunting.

My wife and I were there....I auctioned off an item.
I actually meet them at cloverdale 03.....shipped them a rock a few years later with a Wensel Woodsman buried in it.
And got Gene's book from him before sanatonio in Pitt.
I'm sure they are busy chasing huge bucks...
My bet is that Barry is out tending his trolling sticks/ropes and waiting for the big bucks:

Wish we had met.
I just took notice of that "Yellow" shirt Gene has on in that picture above .
Good guys. Both of them.
I want to see a larger picture of Gene in the corn shirt! And has a deer tried to eat him? New tactic?
I'm with you Terry. I admired Fred Bear a lot, but when I got that first VHS tape of Bowhunting October Whitetails, I fell in love with them! Great woodsmen and hunters!

Oh....I bet you'd remember my wife!!!
My Dad hunted on the Milk River with them many years ago. He still talks about it today. Those guy's cracked him up the entire time!
Yes...they are very entertaining...even over the phone.
Those 2 will keep you laughing, great guys and hunters.
I've had the pleasure of talking with them on several occasions. I love listening to them. Great people.
Agree with everything said! They are icons and down to earth people!
I am sure the twins would be pleased to know how many of us they have mentored with books and films over the years. My original copy of Gene's first book gets a read before season every year.
I've run into them a few times. Went to some of their seminars. Talked with them at San Antonio PBS and St Louis. Did a pig hunt with them. The stories were hilarious. I went to one of Barrys last boot camps.
They are great personable guys who know a lot about hunting big deer.
Have patience my friends. I am in hot pursuit of a monster. BW

Just as expected Barry! Make sure it's bigger than Gene's.
They are a big part of me first starting to shoot traditional as an adult. I shot a recurve as a kid but sometime in my 20's I read an article in a regular outdoor magazine like outdoor life, sports afield or whatever about these two guys who chose to hunt with traditional bows... Guess who? Something just kinda clicked with me and next thing I know I was ordering a longbow.
:campfire: :archer2:
And here's my Barry and Gene Wensel, along with Mike Mitten autographed hunting hat I got at Denton Hill many years ago.
Talked with them many times, they did a few NYB events over the years. Just good guys that love to hunt.
Here's to their success...
Waiting!!! :campfire:
Still in hot pursuit. Very close calls but they are winning. I need more sleep. bw
Keep at it.
Ttt
I met and talked with them several times back in New York. Good tales can be told by that pair.
I got up at 4:45 this morning ready to go but it was so foggy I went back to bed. I probably won't shoot one this year. I still have until Jan. 10th but in the last 20 years I've only taken one buck in the late season. I kinda feel sorry or them after the two gun seasons and every food plot in the area has a MLer sitting in their little heated shooting houses with their "primitive" weapons. Sorry.
I've had an outstanding season. I missed a 160" 5x5 in October. He was just too pretty to pass up. I was trying to film and shoot him myself and ended up rushing the shot. I missed him clean and ended up with no footage or deer. Then I absolutely blew another good one in early November. He was hitting a scrape 30 yds. from me and not coming my way. I wheezed at him once and he puffed up, laid his ears back and came right to me with intent to whup my buttocks. I was perfectly calm. I was in that same 6 ft. high treestand I killed that 173"er from in 2017. He walked right up broadside at maybe 14 yds. The tree is a think cedar. The arrow hit the very end of a feathery tiny twig (needles). It was so small light passed through it and I didn't even see it. But it worked for him. Golly gee, gosh darn, son of a gun.. or words similar to that. He was a good deer, probably 6.5 with a big white rack, gray muzzle and really dark chocolate forehead patch. Probably would have grossed B&C but not netted 170", which doesn't bother me at all.
Then I got onto an absolute giant typical in another area. A monster 5x5 that we named Pitchfork if that gives you an idea. I ended up seeing him four times so far but no ethical shots yet. Because of him I ended up passing up some other great bucks, which is okay because I hunt for the memories not the score. That's just me and I could care less what others do. If I happen to take a good one I promise to forward a photo. Meanwhile, Happy New Year to all and hunt safe. BW
Thanks for the report and good luck Barry!
Happy New Year, Skychief.
Thanks for the update Mr Wensel! Best of luck to you in second season!
sounds like you had a blast, :campfire:
Still a few days!!!
:coffee: :archer2: :campfire:
Still pulling for you guys!!!
I didn't get to hunt much in 2019. Health issues with my wife and another bout with atrial fibrillation. We've moved back to Montana where the kids and grandkids all live. It was the right thing to do.
