Charlie was on his 1st day, actually the day before his 1st day, of a 3 week hunt during the rut in Missouri and he stepped off a ladder and broke his ankle....he's in the hospital....
His entire hunting season is now trashed....
I was going to hunt with him in a couple of weeks!!!!
Can we get Some words of encouragement for Mr. Charlie please..... As you know if this would have happened to you it would have sucked also!!!
Sorry to hear about Charlie. Wishing him a speedy and complete recovery.
Chin up, Charlie. There's always next year.
Hang in there, Mr. Lamb! I know how much I hated it when I trashed my ankle a few years ago, so I definitely feel for ya! My best advice is lots of Traditional Bowhunter Magazine & Tradgang, so that you can live vicariously through others! Get well soon, sir.
So sorry to hear you have fallen Charlie.
I pray the docs are able to put you back together with as little discomfort as possible. Based upon reading your posts, and your book, I know you are a silver lining fellow and will make the best of this down time.
That's a terrible thing to happen so early in the season. I hope you can spend some time in a ground blind soon.
And, Terry is really strong. He can carry you into the woods and get you set up and then carry you back out -- and drag your deer at the same time. No reason I can see to cancel a perfectly good hunt with Terry.
Wow, know how that is.
I didn't get to hunt at all last year. That really adds to the discomfort you already have.
Speedy recovery Charlie.
Gee whiz, Charlie, so sorry to hear about this. I too enjoy your posts here and wish you the best as you deal with this. I know it's disappointing. I busted both bones in my lower leg at the beginning of turkey season some years ago, so I realize how it must be, but this will pass. Patience is sometimes hard to muster up when your plans have been interrupted, but lots of folks here are pulling for you. You'll do fine.
Charlie,
I'm sorry to hear about your bad news!
Heal-up quickly brother.....
:archer2:
Charlie, I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune. Many years ago I shattered my wrist in my bow arm just before hunting season. It was in a shoulder length cast and I was beside myself not being able to shoot my bow.
I figured out a way of shooting with my foot and got to hunt that year.
"Where there's a will there's a way"
Heal up Charlie!!!!!
Bisch
Hope you are feelin better buddy! You're a tuff sum...buck! I'll say that!
Get well soon Charlie and what Smokin Joe said!!![emoji2]

Keep your head up Charlie! Prayers for a speedy recovery! How bout some of your famous looonnnggggg stories while your mending up.
Don't know you Charlie except through your words and from them I know you will get through this. Hope you heal well and are able to get out some this year yet. Best of luck with your recovery.
Mr. Lamb,
I hate to hear about your mishap that has resulted in you being sidelined.
A few years ago I took a job that has resulted in allowing for almost zero hunting opportunity. Having always hunted almost daily each fall/winter my entire life it's been tough not getting to do what I love.
This forum and YouTube videos from a select few who hunt similar to how I enjoy hunting have been a blessing in helping to get through each year.
Communicate with all your buddies and hunt vicariously through them!!
Charlie, sorry to hear that you're out of commission for a while. Hope you recover quickly.
In the meantime, maybe you could work on the second volume of Tales?
Hang in there Charlie!! We'll be praying for you.
I once dropped a knife into my foot at work the night before opening day of turkey season. Against dr orders I went anyway. Hope you heal quickly. May be a good time to write a second book.
 get better soon
Charlie, I am very sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you recover quickly. I was sitting here watching football and sharpening one of those Razorheads I got from you when I read about this. How long does the doc expect you to be out of action?
Heal up quick
There is always the late season.
Dang Charlie that sucks dude.
Wishing you a speedy recovery brother.
Wishing you a quick recovery.
Get well soon, no sooner. Get lots of rest and maybe if the will is strong enough there will be a way to get in the field, not tree, before the end of the season, with camera or bow. Take care Charlie.
Don't give up Charlie fast recovery

Sorry for your troubles.
Best wishes for a fast recovery. We'll be thinking of you.
Damn Charlie. That is a bummer. Course the deer in your hunting area are happy as hell. All the more reason for you to heal up and get out. Teach them critters a lesson big guy. God Bless and good luck.
Keep your chin up! The Lord knows the way your going even if we don't, so trust him. May be discouraging now but may be for a better reason. Praying for healing and encouragement.
Get well soon!
Man that's some bad timing
Get well quick
Sorry, Charlie! As has been said, time for a ground blind. As one who is privileged to have my name in your book, I would like to see more stories from you. Heal fast, but write hard.
Murray

Sorry to hear this Charlie. Follow doctors orders and get well soon!
First off ,can't figure out why you were on that ladder, that's wife's work. Just kidding in all respect really wishing you a speedy recovery, I think you should take up Terry's offer to carry you in and out for your hunt lol
Steve...ladder stand.
How I didn't catch that, age thing . Have only been in a stand once ,first and last time .In northern B.C. moose hunting a home built one by my brother in law ,scared the bejesus out of me.
Best Wishes for a full recovery.
Sorry for your misfortune charlie. I hope you heal up quick.
OH MAN, that sucks. hope you can get a 4 wheeler ride to a good ground blind somewhere good. get well Charlie.
Well, if there is one thing I can always count on it's my brothers here on TradGang. When the goin gets tough I always have you guys on my side. The well wishes mean more than I can even say.
I want to extend a special thanks to my friend Kenny Mckenzie. He has been there for me a couple of times now when I really needed it. Last year I ended up in a deep ditch and Kenny was ready to drop everything to come pull me out... I got out on my own but he was on the way when I called him back.
This little incident banged me up pretty bad. I stepped back off the ladder one step too soon and came down all wrong. I laid there for a while trying to catch my breath. Once I could I tried to pull myself up to a standing position but wasn't having much luck at it. My right ankle hurt about as bad as anything can.
I hate to ask for help when I get in a bind but it was apparent I wasn't going to get out of this fix without some kind of help. Fortunately I had cell service which isn't always dependable in the area I was hunting. I called Kenny and he was ready to come to my rescue. His boss is a special guy too as Kenny was at work and got away without much problem that I know of.
He knew basically where I was hunting and started out right away. We coordinated some changes in directions and within half an hour I could here his truck out on the county road. Kenny parked by my truck and I was able to talk him back to where I was. I'd managed to get on my feet with a little cussing and teeth gritting.
I was apparent that Kenny wasn't going to carry my fat ass out of the woods so he went back and was able to drive my truck within a few feet of me. Without the help of a true friend I'd still be crawling through the blackberry brambles and stick tites.
This coming Friday I go in for surgery. I've been told it will involve pins and plates. They are waiting for the swelling to go down some before working on it. Until then I have orders to stay off my feet and keep my foot elevated. Did I mention that the Dr. had a little talk about with me about staying on the ground at my age. I think I'll take the advise.
Dang, Charlie...best wishes for a speedy recovery. Ladder stands can instill a false sense of confidence (ask me how I know) and I'm glad to hear you weren't injured worse than you were. Know that we all are grateful for your contributions to the sport and will try to keep you entertained here on TG while you heal. :bigsmyl:
Accidents can happen when we least expect them....hope ya heal up quick Charlie. We will be waiting for more old hunting stories when ya get board....we know ya got'em.
Tim B
Those animals just got one heck of a break....for now!! Get well soon.
I'm very sorry Charlie for the accident. I hope the healing after surgery goes well.
Very well done Kenny......friends are the best!
Get well quick. Sorry about your season.
Dang Charlie! What some crappy luck! Prayers for a speedy recovery!
Hoping for a speedy recovery sir!
Charlie, I think Terry's got a Hidden Hunter blind he could loan you....They're mighty comfortable
Sorry about the mishap, Speedy recovery, Charlie! Ground blinds rock! Think Ground Blind and crutches! My clumsy butt has done it, so can you!
LD
I've stayed on the ground sense my early 50s.
Speedy recovery Charlie.
Yes, get a pop up blind. And, I spent one year hunting on crutches. Awkward, but doable. Best wishes, and continued prayer.
Murray
Sorry to hear this. Hopefully the recovery will go smoothly.
Well, Top or Bottom, The last rung always gets you!!!??
Get well soon, Brother!!!!!
Mend well, Charlie! Golf cart deer blind...

Todd...did that horse come with a saddle?
hahaha!! no saddle. :dunno:
:archer2:
Sorry Charlie
"Ouch" Charlie,
Sorry to hear about your little mis-adventure.
As we get older we learn new stuff, like how we glide like a greased crowbar and then we land like a sack of cement. I learnt that little lesson a few years back.
At least it was your ankle not your arm, you can still shoot your bow hey.
Rest up and heal up good.
Oh, and in this down time, can you tell us some more stories please? I really enjoy your stories :goldtooth:
Best
Lex

Mend well, Charlie! Golf cart deer blind...
x2
Wishing you a speedy and full recovery.
Charlie, hang in there. I remember Jerry Pierce broke his ankle one season after a step broke while climbing into a stand. The farmer wasn't home and this was before cell phones. He ended crawling 1/2 a mile across corn stubble before driving his stick shift truck 25 miles home. You're tougher than wang leather....
Hopin ya get on yer feet soon Charlie
Mend well Charlie
Charlie get well soon!!!
Dang it Charlie! Us old guys don't need to be doing that crap. We got hunts to do.
Mend fast!
Mike
I talk to Charlie he seems to be in great spirits despite being very very very Bummed about losing his season which we all should be or would be!!!!
Charlie, hopefully your healed enough by December 26th to come and hunt with us at Kenny's.
Pray the surgery is successful and heal quickly...
Chad... I've got my sights set on the 26th :goldtooth: I'm saying prayers and crossing fingers.
We can make you a ground blind if needed. Can you shoot out of that old tractor? LOL
